This picture of a UPS worker delivering a package on 9/11 right after the second tower was hit is so fascinating to me. I totally would have used two buildings being blown up and the city infrastructure pausing as an excuse to not do my job. Just go back to the depot and call it a day. But no he’s bravely delivering that Backstreet Boys poster or whatever while everyone else stares at the buildings behind him in shock. Went “Well, that sucks. Can’t do anything about it I guess.”

Apparently there was some kind of race scheduled at a local park or something so I've been trying to avoid the main trail but a little while ago when I had to cross near it I overheard the following shouted exchange
Higher feminine voice: woo, look at you go! You're jogging! Keep it up!
Lower masculine voice (panting): you know it! Last place is still a place, baby!
And goddamn if that didn't rewire my brain a little bit.
Last place is still a place, baby.

So apparently the pro-Tetris scene is exploding right now because a 13 year old nerd just reached the game's true killscreen for the first time ever

"Your mother was there for me at a time when no one else was"
“Remus?” A soft voice asked. “Remus. What’s going on?”
Lily Evans stood in the doorway of the dimly lit shrieking shack, her attention focused on the pale, scarred figure that was crumpled in the corner of the room.
“You’re scaring me.” She said, slowly walking toward him. The floorboards creaked under every movement, and as she grew closer she could hear muffled sobs.
“Leave me alone!” Came Remus’s voice. It sounded as though his throat had been rubbed with sandpaper.
“Please.” He turned around, his eyes red and puffy. “Please. Before I hurt you.”
“Remus. What are you talking about?” Lily ignored Remus’s pleads. Instead, she crouched beside him and gingerly placed her hand on the part of his back that wasn’t covered in fresh scars.
“I - I hurt him, Lily. It was almost morning and he got too close, and - and I couldn’t control myself!” Remus began to sob again, curling back into a tight ball.
Lily looked beside where Remus was lying and saw a small puddle of blood. She wasn’t sure who’s it was.
“Who, Remus? Please. Tell me.”
“It - it was Peter. He must have scared me. I - I barely remember, but I know I hurt him. Bad.”
“Where is he?” Lily’s green eyes were staring at Remus with a mixture of sadness, compassion, and love.
“With Madame Pomfrey.”
“And James and Sirius just left you?” She sounded angry as she helped Remus, who was weak, to sit up. She took off her robe and placed it around his shoulders.
Remus nodded. He felt ashamed and he hated himself for letting Lily comfort him after he nearly killed Peter.
“Lily, I’m a monster. They’ve always known it, and now I’ll be lucky to get out of this without going to Azkaban.” Remus was struggling not to cry, but he couldn’t hold back his tears anymore.
“You should have seen the way they looked at me, Lily. I barely knew what was happening, and they stared at me like I was evil. Then they left, carrying Peter. They’ll never talk to me again. I’m - I’m a monster!”
“Remus John Lupin! You look at me right now! You are not a monster. You hear me? You are the smartest, sweetest, bravest man I have ever known. Would a monster care about his friends like you do? Would a monster protect the people he loves? Would a monster wear himself down and never give himself credit and love with all of his heart? You are never a monster.”
By now, a few tears were in Lily’s eyes as she wrapped her arms around Remus like only a sister could. Remus, so weak and so moved by Lily’s love, collapsed into her arms and cried himself to sleep. When he woke up he was lying in a hospital bed, wearing fresh clothes and staring into the faces of his three best friends, Lily standing beside them holding so much chocolate she almost dropped all of it.
