i’m with you on the disappointment of season 6 of soa. So i’m curious, how would you rewrite it? What storylines would you change, etc.
A big part of the anger for me is the way Jax (and his relationship with Tara) completely deteriorated seemingly out of nowhere. Because the ending of season 5 did not indicate/show that Jax would lose his morality that quickly
I agree with you 100%!! Jax acted so OOC in S6, the way he just jumps into bed with Colette whole Tara’s in prison?? Honestly if that wanted Jax to cheat on Tara, it would have made more sense the second time when Tara walks in on them. At that point Tara is shutting Jax out and he feels the disconnect. He knows about the divorce and the fake miscarriage, so the cheating at that point would have made a lot more sense. Jax has always turned to sex to numb his problems and honestly if he was hurt and mad, it would make sense that he would do something to spite Tara in that moment. They definitely jumped the gun on Jax’s morality, which really speaks to how badly S6 was written. The way Jax behaved after Opie’s death was so well written because you can see him slowly start to lose his morality. All the acts of violence just slowly escalate and even the characters around him are shocked/concerned when it happens. Chibs checks in with him, Bobby constantly calls him out on it, and Tig even questions him when he injects Wendy with the heroin (which in my opinion was one of the worst things he’s done on the show). There was none of that in S6/7, it was just violence for the sake of violence.
I think it goes without saying, but I did a complete rewrite I wouldn’t have killed off Tara. I think it was a huge waste killing her off and if anyone deserved to make it out of Charming is should have been Tara. She was written as the outsider looking in and I truly believe she was the Horatio in this Hamlet adaption, which Sutter completely denies the story ever being based around which is another thing that irritates me about him 😂. I think the perfect ending would be Tara and Wendy teaming up to get the boys of Charming, I absolutely loved where their story was heading and I thought Wendy’s development was great! He completely wasted Wendy, he ruined her progression and turned into Gemma’s lapdog.
Honestly the show still could have been saved in S7 if it was done properly! Jax kills Gemma after finding out about her hand in Tara’s death, Jax still dies in the end, but Margaret gets the kids instead of Wendy. I will never understand why Sutter completely wrote off her character. After Wendy flipped sides on Tara, she was done with her. She didn’t want the boys to be raised by her, which is why the ending bugs me so much. It would have made more sense to give Margaret custody. She came from that life and rose above it, if anybody was capable of making sure they didn’t follow Jax’s footsteps it definitely was her
Once again, I’m so sorry for the delay! I’m also up for talking about SOA though, the hood and the bad 😂. Honestly I could podcast about this stuff, that’s how ingrained it is in my mind 🤪

Hey! Was just wondering if you could expand upon when you started to dislike Kurt Sutter and why?
(also where what storyline would you have written for the characters?)
Hey! Oh my god, I’m sorry I’m just responding to this now! I’ve been a little MIA on tumblr!
Sure! I will say, it’s a little hard to pinpoint exactly when but I can definitely remember a few things that changed my opinion of him lol. It definitely started at some point in S6! Now I’m Tara fan, so I’m a little biased lol, but he just treated her fans like absolute trash. He would respond to fans after her death on Twitter with distasteful comments. One was a character pissing on her grave, or Tig raping her corpse. I mean he was pretty awful on Twitter in general! I know once Tara died, he started treating Juice fans in a similar way. Meanwhile his responses to the Gemma fans were positive.
The writing also took a giant nose dive during S6/7, especially S7. The storylines didn’t make any sense, all the characters were insufferable, 90% of the dialogue was just bad, and Sutter was just aiming for shock factor (remember the opening where every character is having sex??? Why was that even a thing??). The violence was also super gratuitous, Juice was raped how many times?? He also tried so hard to paint Gemma as a victim, even after the awful shit she did throughout the series. He completely tried to undermine Gemma’s involvement in JT’s death, but revealing that JT killed himself. He also had Gemma raped a second time just so Jax would believe her?? As much as I love Tara, I could have accepted her being killed off if it was properly handled in S7. Season 7 was just bad lol. Once the show took off, Sutter’s ego grew and he sold out. It sucks because it was such an amazing show, but it only took two seasons of bad writing to ruin it.

“The most emotional storyline, which is always what I’m looking for specifically, is that these two friends who loved each other — like really loved each other, but also had all these simmering resentments — have this major blowout, full of truthful things that were said to one another. And then through sheer obstinance, like absolute stubbornness, neither one could offer an olive branch to the other. And because of that, a tragic accident occurs. That’s baggage. That’s something to carry into 2021 that Shauna will have to live with forever.” — Jonathan Lisco

Not that it’s anything strange for a kid eight or nine years old to not be thinking about anything… but then you came running to me with a book. Both of us were outcasts, not able to get along with the other kids in town. That’s all we were back then. But when I heard you telling me those things, and I saw the look in your eyes… that’s when I knew for the first time. I wasn’t free.

Every version of us has spent every version of all of our lives in one infinite crib, built around an infinite fucking baby. And I’m leaving it. That’s what makes me ‘evil’, being sick of him. If you’ve ever been sick of him, you’ve been evil too.

“I think there’s a certain tragedy about never being able to repair that relationship, that is all-encompassing. I think the grief of her imagining that Jackie’s there is something that literally stops her in her tracks. It made it easier for me to play those moments where I’m chasing this ghost or this image of this person because all she would want was to be able to go back and repair that, to go back and be a better person, a different person, a better friend, somebody who was honest from the beginning. It’s her life’s biggest regret. I think she thinks she’s a terrible person, mostly because of this.” - Melanie Lynskey on Jackie & Shauna (Yellowjackets)
