Listen the fuck up people
(Disclaimer: I am not a Seventeen fan nor am I an anti, I am not a fan of S.coups and I’m only here to correct something that is factually incorrect) Ok i’m just gonna say this now about the whole S.coups thing: As a person who is from Daegu, listens to Daegu satoori on a daily basis both at school and at home and sometimes even uses it, what S.coups said in that video was definitely not intended to be a “Korean version” of “my [n-word].” “마 내가” (ma naega) is a commonly used phrase and if you wanted to be super grammatically correct abt it it would become 마, 내가. 마 comes from the word like “buddy” which is 인마/임마 (inma/imma) and even I use it sometimes. In BAP’s “No Mercy,” Yongguk’s satoori rap he says “마, 느그들” etc so he used it too. S.coups said “마, 내가 마마에 간다 아이가” which basically means “Yo, I’m going to mama amirite,” in my personal way of speaking (but you kind of get the gist of it) and he said it in a 이행시 (eehaengshi) which is where people make sentences out of words of 2 characters. This made S.coups break up the sentence to “마 내가 / 마마에 간다 아이가” as they were making it from the word “마마.” I know that the other members laughed but that’s most likely because they fully weren’t expecting S.coups to go satoori with it and I’m pretty sure lots of other bands have done this too when a 경상도 member used 사투리 without the other members expecting it. This has also happened to me when I talk to my friends about something then I suddenly use satoori - they don’t expect it so it’s funny for them. I also heard that there was an argument about how someone said “my n***a” after s S.coups said “마 내가” (I don’t really know Seventeen so I don’t know his name) but in my personal opinion it’s just him using awful satoori (as do most non-satoori speakers) but that’s not the topic of my point here so y'all can argue about whether that was him saying the n-word or not. But seriously, everyone who’s saying that S.coups said the n-word, stop. It’s not the n-word, it IS dialect and y'all need to accept that. I’m also gonna take this time to say that I’m quite shocked at how fans who don’t speak satoori are trying to say that he did say the n-word and are completely dismissing his use of it in an argument caused by a situation where he is clearly using Daegu satoori, and how even international fans are dismissing what satoori speakers are saying. I’m shocked at the ignorance, rudeness and lack of respect people have for each other and I honestly hope this changes. If a situation like this comes up, don’t be so dismissive of people who actually know what they’re talking about. Yes, it is an issue based on the Korean language, but Korean is different in different regions and areas.
