Trigger warning, i guess?
Oh and this is an older poem from july but whatever
When I first saw the image, it gave me an unsettling feeling because it's an animal, of course. But the symbolism of a snake devouring a rabbit immediately resonated with me in the context of that poem. The poem speaks of yearning and of wanting someone to long for you as much as you do for them, to feel that same intensity. But in asking for that connection, you end up being consumed entirely. It's a cautionary tale of desire—how, in wanting to be close, you might lose yourself completely.
In this metaphor, the rabbit is like the speaker, vulnerable and seeking companionship, even asking the snake to stay. The rabbit imagines they’re both hunted by predators, yet overlooks the fact that the snake is just as much a predator. In trying to hold onto that connection, the rabbit is devoured alive. The snake, in its own way, believes it’s staying with the rabbit by consuming it, believing their union is complete through consumption.
Kind of like the line "be careful what you wish for"

“Trees know when we are close by. The chemistry of their roots and the perfumes of their leaves pump out change when we’re near… when you feel good after a walk in the woods, it may be that certain species are bribing you.”

“Oh, no,” Kimimaro protests, “I never slack off on my training. If anything, being chosen as Lord Orochimaru’s vessel has made me train harder. I have to keep my body in the best shape. Why—did I do something wrong?”
Kabuto sensei, with all due respect, did you know you’re still wearing a Santa hat? It’s February now…

"Oh. Well, since January is a "free-trail" month, hence why I'm wearing this right now, but I'll take it off since it bothers you so much. Besides, since when did you started to care for physical appearances?"

He is so confused now.
“Well…one time Lord Orochimaru told me I was beautiful…and he’s never wrong, so…
“And…why would it be wrong for him to want to be beautiful in his vessel’s body, both with and without his own appearance? I think such a great person should be beautiful on the outside, too. I know that much more goes into his choice of vessel, but I can see how appearances would be important.”

“Physical appearances are very important, at least for me. If my body were different, it might not be worthy of being the container for Orochimaru sama’s dream,” Kimimaro explains.

Maybe, just maybe, there is no purpose in life. But if you linger a while longer in this world, you might discover something of value in it, like how you discovered that flower. Or, how I discovered you one fateful night.
