Some things we picked up from playing resident evil with Rachel today. We mainly concentrated in the sounds and the characters used to make it a game full of fear.

Outlast was released in 2013 as an indie horror game, but it gradually climbed its way to the top of the best horror games to have ever been created. Outlast has everything any horror game could need, it has blood, gore, monsters and a lot..of fear. Now in my opinion the game is a masterpiece, it's brilliant! There is a review on IGN about the game, and one of the reporters who played it said : "The character models are represented with a bit less fidelity. They're not bad per se, but certain enemies that appear terrifying from a distance lose quite a bit of their terror when viewed up-close. You'll also notice quite a bit of enemy repetition during the latter half of the campaign. That being said, you'll probably be too busy running away like a maniac to notice most of the time." Which is true, the enemies attack you same way even though they are different from the last, and people have said, that after a while of being on the same level, with the same enemy chasing you, the fear and tension leaves, and boredom and irritation enters. That is one thing many players have said about the game. Another thing the IGN review said was : "From the get-go, Outlast is one of the best-looking and sounding survival horror games to date. Everything from the dynamic lighting to a fantastic soundscape work together to keep you on edge every second of the experience. On both PC and PS4, I dreaded entering any new areas or opening any closed doors for fear of what lurked in the dark unknown." Here is a link to the review video : https://youtu.be/0l1_jJDZ9Ts

This is what I got from researching how the borrow game 'Outlast' was created, I chose this game to research and use as an inspiration because this is my favourite horror game. I like this game because of the story and the music/sound effects used in the game. Playing the game the music effected me a lot, it was loud, eerie and definitely drew me into the game more. I will be using this game as an inspiration for my game that I will be creating in this project.

Yesterday I was able to finish my part of the game I have been working on with Carlie. She worked with me to turn the drawing of the dog into an animated feature, we had made the tail move back and forth for a few seconds when the word 'Dog' was clicked. We had to code the tail to only move when that button was clicked and to soon stop afterwards. One thing I think I should of added was a 'Next' button, a small instruction saying to click the word 'Dog' and to maybe add some sound to it. That would of made this part of the game a bit better. The things I found hard about this was using Flash itself, I needed a lot of help from Carlie to get things going, but we soon worked our way around it in the simplest way possible for me to try and remember for next time. However I think the best part for me was the design. I had decided to have the letters bright so that the child playing could have its attention drawn to it, and the design of the dog is a simple, friendly one, if I had made it any different I could of made the child lose interest or get confused about it. Keeping things simple in games that are for 2-4 year olds makes it easier for them to take in. I used photoshop to crop the pictures and separate the word and the dog so I could move both of them around the stage. Although I also found using photoshop a bit challenging, again, me and Carlie went through it and hopefully next time I will be able to do it easily.

This is a drawing of what will be in the game for 2-4 year olds that I'm creating with Carlie, I've made sure to have bright colours in the picture so it keeps children interested and made the drawing simple and friendly.

Two game front covers I had sketched out for both of my games with Tom and Carlie. 'The ABC's' is the game for 2-4 year olds I chose bright colours to draw in the attention of younger years and I didn't want to make the title too long, it's a simple thing for kids around those ages to read. It's the same with 'Fly along' but it's a longer name because of the age difference. 'Fly along' is for 7 year olds.

This project has been a stressful one but I have finally submitted my assignment, the flash game I have been making with Tom has been very hard. I had to change most of the coding and the design of the characters in it to suit the age range. It's not much but I'm happy I was able to do what I did. Let's jut say the end of this has turned my brain into mush

The presentation today gave me some good feed back. One thing I was told that could've been improved was to changed the enemies to goblins, instead of zombies to suit the theme of fantasy. I should of added more information in what I was saying about my game and maybe tried to do more screenshots
