So our local museum holds an exhibit each spring called art in bloom. Artists / florists create floral bouquets in response to a fine art piece at the museum.
Today I saw a post on Instagram of 5 beautiful 3D renderings of surreal environments by MUE Studio. As soon as I saw them I thought of real moments in my gardens.
Here are my pairings — surreal with real :)
MUE Studio drawings on the left and photographs I took of gardens on the right.

This summer I have an additional new mapping project that I’m working on with folks from UWM Lubar Entrepreneurship Center, gener8tor, Northwestern Mutual and Start in WI. Here’s an in progress glimpse at the Resource Navigator for the Southeast Wisconsin Entrepreneurship Ecosystem we’re developing.
AND... Design inspiration and a nerd share — the Argonaut also called the paper nautilus. My Gram found this one many years ago along the rocky shell covered beach on Jupiter Island.
Something you might not have known, the argonaut is actually an octopus and is as unusual as it is beautiful. They spend their lives drifting near the surface of tropical and subtropical seas. The females make a parchment-like shell to carry incubating eggs and control where they swim in the water column.
The shell functions like a ballast tank. When the argonaut rises to the water’s surface it gulps in air, then seals it inside. It then dives down until the trapped bubble counteracts its own weight. At that point it can bob without having to expend energy to keep its position in the water column. They can also swim pretty darn fast, faster than a human diver by using jet propulsion. I think they’re pretty darn cool!

I hope you are able to celebrate Juneteenth with family and friends as it is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.
On January 1, 1980, Juneteenth became an official state holiday through the efforts of Al Edwards, an African American state legislator. The successful passage of this bill marked Juneteenth as the first emancipation celebration granted official state recognition. Edwards has since actively sought to spread the observance of Juneteenth all across America.
