On an island that is incredibly dependent on tourism, the people remain so friendly, so honest, and so excited to meet foreigners. You will encounter friendly people renowned for their hospitality and genuinely interested in getting to know you and it’s highly unlikely that you’ll ever feel unsafe anywhere in Djerba. I highly doubt that you'll meet in your travels a down to earth and warm-hearted person as a Djerbian. #10ReasonsToVisitDjerba #ijou_gdena (at Sedghiane Djerba Tunisie)

Nobody in Djerba ever seems to be in a rush. People calmly go by their daily business and always find time to chat and to hangout with their friends. #10ReasonsToVisitDjerba #ijou_gdena (at Sidi Yati)

Djerba is pretty big compared to other islands. It is mostly flat, the roads are in quite good conditions and there are several ways to move around independently. Transportation options: - Car: Rentals are easy to find (around 30$/day). - Bus: Buses come and go regularly, cheapest form of transport (arround 0.4$/stop). - Taxi: inexpensive, anytime, anywhere (around 0.3$/km). Chahia tayyba. #10ReasonsToVisitDjerba #ijou_gdena (at Sidi Jmour Jerba)

If you haven’t tried Djerbian food before, the best way to describe it is: a great mix from the flavours of Southern Europe with the spices of Northern African countries. What does it mean? Fresh fish and seafood, tasty Couscous, flavorful Rouz Djerbi (Djerbian Rice) and much more ! The food is spicy, but not too spicy, unless you add harissa. Chahia tayyaba! #10ReasonsToVisitDjerba #ijou_gdena (at Djerba, Madanin, Tunisia)

The traditional markets and souks of Djerba will not dissapoint you, you can find high-quality leather goods, colourful textiles and a variety of local ceramics. There is a section of the souk dominated by Jewish jewellers, and if you can find your way to this knot of streets, you can purchase silver goods and ornate jewellery from the many shops owned by Jewish Djerbian families. The overall look of the souk area is stunning. The streets are lined with white-washed buildings with bright blue shutters, and the walls are dripping with bougainvillea. #10ReasonsToVisitDjerba #ijou_gdena (at Houmt El Souk)

Seeing the "Island of dreams" colored with beautiful murals is a unique experience. August 2014: A whopping 150 international artists have participated in "Djerbahood", a project to paint the walls of Erriadh, a traditional village in Djerba and one of the oldest villages in Tunisia. April 2018: Djerba has invited more than 20 artists to take part in the street art project “Djerba Painting”. The aim of the project was to make from the walls of Houmt-Souk a beautiful piece of art. Chahia tayyba. #10ReasonsToVisitDjerba #ijou_gdena (at Houmt El Souk)

For such a small island, Djerba is bursting with cultural richness. It contains all the Mediterranean’s usual trimmings but mixes in intoxicating North African roots. Its wonderfully interwoven tapestry is most evident in its people since Djerba was a desired land for Carthaginians, Romans, Spaniards, Pirates… "The land of the hundred mosques" is a land where traditions and crafts are kept as a treasure while welcoming travelers from every corner in the world. #10ReasonsToVisitDjerba #ijou_gdena (at Houmt El Souk)
