ok but whitaker being unhoused puts so many things into perspective. when he asks kiara if they get a lot of homeless around here and it seems like he’s just being curious but really he’s trying to suss out whether he’s an outlier or not. how quickly he backs down and removes all the PPE shit he was wearing when he’s talking to mr. krakozhia, and how quickly he volunteers for the street team. the way he offers to PERSONALLY bring krakozhia his meds every month. he’s carrying around this big secret and it’s clear he feels a level of shame/embarrassment about it. he doesn’t even come out and say he’s unhoused when santos finds and confronts him. but he goes in for his first day of ED rotation and quickly learns just how many resources are out there for people in his same situation. and instead of asking for help for himself he decides to do as much as possible to help OTHERS. all while getting sprayed with piss and blood and catching rats. who is doing it like him

Hi I have thoughts about this that appeared the moment I read this-

Mel’s autistic in the “glass child that grew up doing the best she possibly could to not be a problem because her sister needed more support” way

Santos is autistic in the “completely and entirely undiagnosed/unsuspected and so everyone just assumes she’s a raging bitch even though she is just trying to emulate the people around her” way, and also the “unfettered access to the internet that caused irreversible damage” way

If that makes sense

Fun fact about me, Matt Smith is not in my top 3 Doctors. Please don’t fight me. When I first watched the show, I hated Matt Smith, for quite a while in fact. I don’t think it was until I watched his first Christmas special that I really started to like him, but this rewatch has been really interesting as it has made me realize WHY I didn’t like him. I had really chalked it up to younger me missing 10, but now I think the shift between 10 and 11 is incredibly jarring and, in some ways, a little off-putting. They are just so different, in a way we don’t see between 9 and 10.

By biggest example is that The Doctor has never been “good” at blending in amongst humans, but sometimes it feels with 11 as if he lost any semblance of an ability that he displayed as 10. Maybe that’s just my opinion, maybe I’m alone in that thought, but it’s why “The Lodger” is one of my least favorite episodes. 11 feels so terribly out of place, so disconnected, and while it is humorous, it gives me a lot of second hand embarrassment.

But I’m just one person and that’s just my thoughts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

All of that said, Amy and Rory are some of my favorite companions, and I think the two of them are so damn lovely, specially in “The Pandorica Opens”/“The Big Bang”

so since i’m talking about framing and like the way the pitt characters stand/act. in contrast to frank’s need to bring attention to himself, whitaker is constantly making himself so small!! like he’s constantly slouching and standing really scrunched up

he very obviously does not enjoy attention which is rlly sad considering how often he’s put in situations. like he’s always shocked that someone sees him and talks to him!!! he’s forced into scenes and into conversation. quite literally when it comes to robby snatching him up all the time lmao

maybe that’s why i find his & santos’ relationship so cute. like she’s so cocky and confident n whitaker seems like the kind of guy who would cower at that but he doesn’t!!!

he’s just as much of a shithead as she is! he stands up straight around her, pokes little jabs, he’s also incredibly honest with her! i say incredibly but like. he lets his guard down in a way that he doesn’t with his peers. he’s just a little brother lookin for a big sister!!!

I love Donna. Words cannot describe how much I love Donna. Genuinely think she is one of the best companions and this season shows it off so well. Her and 10 play off each other so well, they have the best dialogue and the way Donna is reintroduced into the series is absolute gold. The window scene in “Partners in Crime” will always be one of my favorites.

There is very little about this season that is not to love. Donna, River Song, the “Greatest Hits” tour of the last two episodes, so to speak… it’s just so masterful. You can tell how much heart went into every single episode. Also, beautifully anti-war messaging once again. I mean, it’s doctor Who, what’s new, but still. Feels particularly topical at the moment.

So goodbye David, hello Matt! Gonna miss 10. I always do.

Notes:

This season is so interesting because it has some of my favorite and least favorite of 10’s episodes all sort of smashed together. I really really dislike “Daleks in Manhattan”/“Evolution of the Daleks” from the standpoint that it’s a bit lazy (plus the evolved Dalek is so damn horrible to look at) but it’s not rated lower for me because I think it definitely could have been worse. Also, can’t ever hurt to have Andrew Garfield on screen lol.

But then there’s so many back to back bangers from episodes 8 on, especially with the last 3 episodes. I can’t count how many times I’ve watched “Human Nature”/“The Family of Blood,” and even still certain parts get me. I love Martha so much, like beyond words, but I am so glad that after her they stop making every companion want the Doctor biblically. Don’t get me wrong, I GET IT, but good lord I can’t always stand a romance thread (even an unrequited one.) But that’s just my opinion :)

My (nearly a week late) journal page from seeing @bughuntermusic and @narcissistcookbook !!

The page is a little chaotic but I had such a fun time at the show and definitely could have done a full 2 page spread about it but did not have the forethought for that. This was my first time using watercolors in my journal as well!! Very happy with it, and I truly hope I captured the whimsical chaos of their sets.
