To create this assignment, I had to properly place the header, the text, and the turtle image. In my opinion, the assignment represents the skills that it takes to edit a news article or a piece that is mostly about the writing.

The logo created here is a laptop and I used the pen tool, various shape tools, and experimented with different colors.. At first, I was going to use a notebook for my logo since I am a journalism major. However, since we are in a digital age that is only getting more advanced, I felt the laptop was more fitting.

To create this grid combo, I took three separate grids, each containing stars, circles, and squares. I played around with them until it no longer looked messy and became visually appealing. In Adobe Illustrator, I used the shape tools and the color tools and thought of a pattern to give it some foundation.

The foundation of this particular infographic comes from my love of the New York Rangers and appreciation for goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Tools I used in the making of this poster include gradients and charts, along with the type tool, where I experimented with different fonts and sizes. I also experimented with many colors until I felt it worked well the poster. I eventually downloaded the New York Rangers font to give the infographic authenticity. In the 2017 playoffs, Henrik Lundqvist has put on some of his best performances. By using these specific rankings and statistics, I wanted to emphasize his importance to the New York Rangers organization.

To promote the Season 7 premier of Game of Thrones, I utilized many different tools to bring the show to life in this poster. I dropped in the two most “important” characters in the show’s current storyline to add even more drama. I also downloaded the official Game of Thrones font and incorporated it into the poster by using the font tool and experimenting with different colors and font sizes. I used the transformation tool often in this project as well.

With the 2017 NHL playoffs approaching, I chose my two favorite New York Rangers players and used different Rangers logos as images along with the ultimate prize, Lord Stanley’s Cup. I mostly used layer masks here, but also cropping and color tools.

The pictures in this triptych are of different moments throughout my basketball career, both at summer camp and in high school. I used the filter tool and the brightness tool to edit the middle one. I used a similar method to touch up the image on the right as well. The image on the left had a slightly different process but, once again, I used editing tools such as curves, brightness and contrast, and other color type tools.

The idea for this Selections piece came from my obsession with Game of Thrones. The original background picture looked nothing like this. Since “Winter is Coming” in season 7, I played around with the curve tool as well as brightness and contrast and other color and shape shifting tools. The picture was originally bright with gold, yellow, red, and other bright colors, but because of the show’s storyline, I used those tools to freeze over “King’s Landing” and give it a dark, wintry feel that is yet to be shown in this location. There are multiple layers, one for each image, that represent important parts of the show. Aside from the sword and the crown, the images represent house sigils.

About Me
My name is Kevin Meiselman and I am studying journalism at Quinnipiac University. Some of my hobbies include playing basketball, watching the New York Rangers, and binge watching television.
While I am only a freshman at the moment, I want to learn as much as I can in Quinnipiac’s school of communications. My interest in becoming a broadcast journalist, preferably in the field of sports, is what drives me to work hard. In high school, I was a sports columnist and co-editor for the weekly school newspaper. I also began an internship with the Lakeville Journal, a county newspaper in Litchfield, CT, during my freshman year. My high school experiences with journalism are what led me to choose my major. After my time at Quinnipiac, I hope that I will have learned the valuable skills and tools to help me succeed professionally. I also want to spend a semester doing QU in LA and take courses in Europe for a summer.
Other interesting things about me:
I went to boarding school for all four years of high school.
While in 5th grade, I sent letters to family and friends to create awareness for mental health illness. I eventually raised over $30,000 for the CABF (Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation).
I hold three varsity basketball records for 3-point shooting.
I have four dogs, all named after colleges.
