The day before...

"A special weapon...for me?" Hoshiko asks in shock and confusion at the case in front of her "Yes, on the body exam you took yesterday it stated you were a match for weapon no.7." Hasegawa explains as he inputs the code to the case, it opens with a hiss as it reveals a scythe weapon. "This weapon is to train you on how to use weapon no.7, this is a normal scythe you can use before you handle the numbered weapon." He continues as Hoshiko stares in awe "You'll have to perform a test exam before you use it in missions, your's is scheduled for the day after tomorrow so be prepared" the girl's eyes peel off the weapon to look at her superior and give him a salute "Yes sir!"

"Geez it's not like it would bite you in the ass to maybe listen to Hasegawa-san for atleast a little while. He's gonna kill us, were supposed to stay on rear." Hoshiko deadpans at Narumi who was running to the yoju that were seconds away from taking literal bites out of Hasegawa in his armor "Actually it would, I would rather doe than listening to his mean mug." The boy rolls his eyes and goes to slice the kaiju that was about to attack as Hoshiko's eye twitches at annoyance to his stubbornness "What am I to do with you..." She sighs as she jumped up and shot two more remaining kaiju.

"Narumi! Hoshiko! What are you doing up in front!? You're supposed to be on rear support!" Hasegawa exclaims at the sight of the two teens "Watching from the back is annoying. I'll take down the honju myself." Narumi nonchalantly says to the older man "I'm sorry Hasegawa-san" Hoshiko says bowing slightly. "I've had it with your lack of teamwork! As we discussed in the briefing, we need to take this kaiju down by keeping in a lockstep and surrounding it on all sides!"

Hoshiko wipes the sweat from her top lip and her forehead at the heat of the sun and Narumi points up to the sky "Look. The weather is better than forecasted. If the fruit absorbs the sunlight and splits, then the dispersal will happen earlier than we predicted, right?" Hoshiko takes up a stem from the neutralized kaijuu from earlier as she hold it up for the two "Well, it is a plant, makes sense." Hasegawa's look turns stern as he replies "Okay...you both bring up a good point. Still, that's nothing more than speculation. Besides, captain Shinomiya has a plan b in store. Until we get orders from the top-" and almost ironically the large man was stopped by their communication device as the three perked up at the sudden voice "This is an emergency message from the control room! The kaiju's split is on an accelerated trajectory! There is a chance of it happening earlier than the initial 2 P.M. time frame!"

"Y'see that? Just like I told you" Narumi says as his scowl turns into a smile "I'm going ahead. You guys follow behind and take in the sights of the city once all the kaijuu are gone." Narumi bolts off as Hoshiko is quick to follow looking back to give their superior an apologetic smile "We'll be up ahead, sorry Hasegawa-san!" She hears the man call out to them as Narumi speeds up "Skills and results, thats all the first division cares about, right?"

A crowd of kaijuu spot the duo as they both make quick work of it "Too slow." Narumi says as he turns to shoot in the other direct missing the sight of two kaijuu closing in on him as Hoshiko shoots them before they could get to him "How 'bout you watch your back first?" She says as he pushes the hair that fell on her face away "Y'know, I really hate using this gun." Hoshiko says as she raises her gun to look for any more remaining kaijuu as Narumi lands beside her. The boy stayed quiet which she found odd looking to him and seeing him eye a few toys in the rubble of a house before he silently walks off, with the other following.

"Hey"

"What?"

"You're doing great they won't just throw that away, y'know that?" Hoshiko says as she pats Narumi on the back "Where the hell did that come from? And I don't care if they discharge me or something." Narumi gives her a look as the girl smiles "Nothing, just had a hunch it would help y'know?" He gives her a scowl at the reply as their communication device bursts with their superiors voice "Narumi, Hoshiko, do you read me?!" The two flinch at the sudden volume as Hasegawa continues "Be careful! The kaiju are getting denser in the center!" "Yeesh, pipe down. Quit ordering me around" Narumi complains as he goes to remove the communication device and gives it to Hoshiko "Hold it for me, will ya? He's always so damn noisy." She could only sigh and place his device in her pocket.

"Hoshiko." The girl perks up at the call of her name from her own device "Yes sir?" She questions holding a finger to her ear "We're turning today's mission into your test your weapon will be dropping in a nearby area get to there and retrieve it, be -" "Be prepared, got it" Hoshiko chuckles, guessing the next words of the man "I'll take care of Narumi, don't worry." She says looking at the boy who was peeking at the seed from the corner of a building. "Alright, I'm entrusting this to you." Is the last thing she heard from Hasegawa as she walks up to Narumi as the two see the Honju pass by.

"Let's split up, gotta check on something" Hoshiko says as she turns to walk the other direction "Huh? What do you mean? Did that old mug tell you to do something?" The girl nods as she continues walking "Yeah I'll be right back! Stay safe!" She says as she starts to sprint "Psh, as if i need to wishes to be safe Narumi says as he turns to face the honju.

Hoshiko runs till she sees a chopper with the JAKDF symbol and she watches as it drops something 'That must be a delivery for me' she smiled as she aproached the case and unclasped the locks to see her scythe "Bad ass!" She exclaims as she discards of her gun and grabs the weapon giving it a few swings and dropping it "Shit! Uhm..." She raises the weapon to get used to it "I'll get used to it...right?"

Hoshiko arrives to the same area she separated from Narumi "Where is this dumb ass?" She looks around then hears explosions from a building nearby "There!" She jumps up on pieces of rubble to jump into the hole to see a kaijuu about to attack Hasegawa "Hey guys! Watcha talkin' 'bout?" She says as she slices the remaining kaiju "Hoshi? Where in the hell did you get that?" Narumi points at the weapon in her hand as the girl gasps almost dropping her weapon again "more importantly what happened to you? What happened to being all high and mighty?" The girl chuckles as she takes in Narumi's state. "Shut it. Like actually."

It had been a year since Narumi and Hoshiko had joined the defense force and Hoshiko was getting dizzy from going around the large headquarters looking for Narumi, knowing him, he was going to get himself into all sorts of trouble. He had almost been kicked out multiple times for misconduct and no way is Hoshiko letting the reason she joined in the first place get kicked out. Even if she didn’t want too though, Vice captain Itami had spoken to you about Narumi’s behaviour, threatening to kick him out if this continued and that he wanted the girl to look after him as his closest friend but no matter how hard she tried he always managed to slip out of her sight. Hoshiko was looking for him rather frantically this time, all the division captains and platoon leaders were having a serious meeting on a kaijuu that emerged in Saitama and Narumi might cause a scene during it. She decided to make her way to the meeting room that was nearly on the other side of the building to check if he was anywhere nearby, the girl could only sigh at the distance as she started walking.

“Now then, I will brief you on the kaiju that emerged in Saitama Prefecture’s Koshigaya City. Please take a look at this.” The operator showed them an image of a the large kaiju on the meeting room’s big screen “A plant-type kaiju? The fact that it showed up in an urban area is worrying.” Vice Captain Itami comments as the operator continues with his discussion. “It broke through the asphalt and sprung up between the buildings at the crack of dawn. It seems that it hid underground and stored up on nutrients. Then it’s pod fruit pemerged on the portion of the plant above the surface.” Captain Igarashi’s face grows into a puzzled one as she questions “Huh? Wazzat? What’s a “pod fruit”?” the operator then explains in return “A pod fruit is a form of seeded fruit. It splits open, shooting seeds into the air.”

The screen shows a close up image of the kaiju’s pod fruit and the operator points at it “This was the pod fruit when it first emerged this morning.” Then the pictured changed into one of the kaiju where it’s pod was opened way more that it was in the one previously shown “And this is it’s current state” Hasegawa speaks up at the sight of it “It appears to have opened up more since this morning.”

“Once the fruit gathers enought nutrients, the sunlight triggers the fruit to split open casuing it to release and disperse it’s seeds.” Pictures of old disasters that had occured were being displayed on the screen that were similar to that of the situation now. “ For a well-known example of the damage caused by plant-type kaiju, we can refer to the specimens found in Hibiya back in ’66 and Sendai back in ’96. In particular, I’d look to the cataclysm in ’96 which saw the fruit split and spread it’s seeds. An incident that required time to effectively manage.” And with that the operator finishes his explanation “And this one is even bigger than the one in Sendai? If it splits open, we’re in for trouble.” Vice captain Itami asks “How much time do we have?” Captain Shinomiya follows up the previous question “By outr calculations, based on the solar radiation, temperature, and other factors, we estimate that it could occur as early as 2 p.m” the operator states their findings “So basically, we need to eliminated the fruite by then.” Hasegawa summarizes as the operator nods.

“What if we were to snipe it from the air via chopper?” Captain Ashiro asks “I’m afraid that might prove difficult as well. Take a look at this if you would.” The operator then switches the pictures to the current state of Koshigaya city with raging plant yoju growing everywhere along with the honju leading them “These are the emerged honju and its yoju offshoots. They are deploying around the fruit and growing a a rapid pace.” The pictures switch one after another showing more and more of the damage the kaiju had currently done in the area “Their roots extend deep into the ground, while their tentacle-like trunks reach high into the sky. Any copter that approaches will likely get swatted down.” Vice-captain Itami sighs at the information “Taking to the sky is too risky...it seems attacking by land is our only option.” “If we can find a way to secure a line of fire, then i have no doubt we can eliminate the fruit.” Captain Ashiro exclaims “The density of the kaiju is the issue here. Not to mention their speed. I doubt dealing with them will be so straight-forward.” Hasegawa retorts.

The crowd begin to argue on their course of action till a yawn was heard from behind “You sure have some boring meetings” Narumi states, the noise of his console could be heard at the sudden silence of the people in the room. “The gist is simple, isn’t it? Just cut through the kaiju’s emergence point and destroy the fruit. Charging in guns blazing is the only solution. That is, unless you’ve got any better ideas?” the boy says uninterested as he looks to the crowd from his relaxed position in his chair “Narumi?! How did you get in here?! You weren’t invited to this meeting!” Hasegawa yells at Narumi who angrily shouts back “Where I go is my own business. This room’s got air-conditioning and a huge monitor. It’s perfect for gaming.” The door of the meeting room slams open as Hasegawa quite literally kicks Narumi out of the room with him landing at the feet of a bewildered Hoshiko who had just arrived.

Hasegawa briefly apologized to the people of the room as Narumi got up from the floor. Hoshiko turns to Narumi who was staring at the tall man, annoyed at the fact he was kicked out. “Gen, seriously, you can’t keep doing what you want!” the girl says firmly as she stood in front of his face as he let out a sigh of his own. “And another thing! This kaiju has a wide emergence area. Even if you were to deploy the entire first division, you wouldn’t be able to cover it all. Face it, you need my help.” Narumi says as if it were a matter-of-fact to which Hoshiko was quick to cover his mouth with her hand to prevent him from saying more but it proved to be futile as he struggled against her grip and managed to free his mouth “Well, what do you say, old man?” both Hoshiko and Hasegawa were fuming at this point, ‘This boy really doesn’t know when to quit, does he?!’ Hoshiko thought trying to cover his mouth again while Hasegawa put him into a headlock.

Captain Shinomiya stays silent as Vice-Captain Itami answers in his stead “Yes, this operation will require number of soldiers. That naturally means you’ll be on the front lines as well, Narumi. But bear this in mind. We receive a notice from headquarters yesterday. It stated and I quote “Officer Narumi’s problematic behavior has been picked up by the media and we simply can’t take it any longer.”” The boy mentioned could only widen his eyes and mutter out “What?” a scowl appears on the Vice Captains face as his tone turns cold sending chills down Hoshiko’s spine “If you cause any trouble on this mission, we’ll be forced to consider you formally discharged from our ranks.” Hoshiko lets out a gasp and Narumi stills in Hasegawa and Hoshiko’s hold. “Narumi.” Captain Shinomiya finally speaks up after his long silence “Manners, appearance, diligence, grace – none of that matters to me. I Have only one demand. Show me results and skill.” She could hear the boy chuckle as he held her hand out of the way of his mouth “I just gotta show results, right?” I might as well be playing on easy mode.” Narumi smiles as he says that.

Hasegawa’s platoon arrives at their positions later that day as Hasegawa stands tall in his full battle armor “I’ll give an overview of our mission once more. Were in charge zone F. we’ll be moving toward the fruit in the center region while striking down threats from the perimeter in tandem with other platoons. The honju’s core should be in this vicinity according to the estimate provided by the analysis team. I’ll advance and-“ Hasegawa was cut off by a loud yawn and Hoshiko of course knew who the culprit of that was “NARUMI, ARE YOU LISTENING?!” Hasegawa yelled at her friend while she could only deadpan ‘The damn mission hasn’t even started yet but Gen has me exhausted…’ “Ah, hold on a sec! I’m at the best part! I’m about to beat my best time-“ Narumi replied as he focused on his console but it was his turn to be cut off as Hasegawa kicked him for the second time that day for misbehaving and Hoshiko grabbing the console out of his hands keeping it in her pocket so he wouldn’t be able to use it again “GAAH!!! WHAT’RE YOU TWO DOING?! ARGH…YOU’RE MAKING ME LOSE LIVES!!” the girl scoffs as she glares at the boy that was kneeling on the ground “You can do this later. Right now, we have a job to do Gen.”

The platoon leader ignores his complains as he gives the boy instructions “She’s right. Now Narumi, give me backup along with the other officers.” The mentioned boy gives Hasegawa an uninterested stare as he questioned him “Me? Back you up? You’re kidding, right?” the man’s expression turns grim as he turned to face him completely “Have you forgotten that the upper base threatened to discharge you? The stipulation was that you don’t cause any trouble. Headquarters isn’t expecting you to produce spectacular results. What they want to see from you is teamwork. Refusing to work with other officers that isn’t Mitsuba isn’t going to cut it. You only need to perform as well as an average officer, so behave yourself and provide backup as you were ordered.” To the threat Narumi stretched in boredom and complained once more “Not even co-op play. Just regular old support, huh?” to end his statement he yawns out once more “What’s the matter with you? Sleep-deprived” Hasegawa comments so Hoshiko grabbed him by the collar and looked right at his face “You pulled another all-nighter on that new game you bought, didn’t you?” the girl interrogated as the one in her grasp lowered his head and removed her grip on his collar and started walking away.

“Platoon leader, are you sure it’s okay to let him do as he pleases?” a platoon member asked To Hasegawa as the man turned to the member of his team “He stayed up all night playing games. Theres no way he’s taking this seriously. I don’t want him dragging us down. Not to mention he already has a history of disrupting our missions.” The platoon member finished to which Hasegawa reassured them “Just let him be. Either way, his future is riding on this mission.” The man sighed and look at Hoshiko who saluted, knowing exactly what that look on the mans face was saying. He may show it through anger most of the time but he cared to at least make him stay, he did after all, have very promising potential. The look Hasegawa gave to the girl told her ‘Take care of him if he goes too far.’

"So your saying...THE CAPTAIN OF THE STRONGEST DIVISION WANTS TO INVITE US TO THEIR BASE?! AS IN THE ARIAKE MARITME BASE?!" Hoshiko yells as they exit the hospital, Narumi who walked with her slapped a hand to her mouth "You sure are noisy for someone who was just discharged from the hospital." He complained as a car pulled up in front of them and a tall man exits the car "I am Eiji Hasegawa, First Division Platoon Leader. I'm here to escort the both of you to headquarters."

"Ha-Hasegawa-san...." Hoshiko mutters, her expression displaying pure awe at the person infront of them not minding how Narumi grabbed her arm and pulled her into the car with a scowl on his face. The drive to their destination was short but the boy still slept on Hoshiko's shoulder for the ride. Looking at him, she realized the bags under his eyes have grown darker 'I must have worried him...' the girl thought as she frowned at the thought of Narumi staying up late at night waiting for her to wake up from what the doctors mentioned was 3 days.

Hoshiko stood in awe once more as they got out of the car "It looks so mugh bigger in person!" She gushes at Narumi who rolls his eyes "It's what ever." He says while walking away leaving his friend to catch up. "Were going to run some tests on both of you just to see your unleased combat power, it's not normal for people to just randomly use carcasses that aren't adjusted as weapons" an operator explains to the two as they both laid down on a table as other operators set the devices need for the test.

"The boy's unleashed combat power...is 24 percent?!" Hasegawa explains as he looked at the numbers on the screen "The girl, too has quite the impressive number with 21 percent." The captain, Shinomiya, mentions as well "It would seem their aptitude for Kaijuu cells are remarkably high in general. Also we haven't officially confirmed this yet...but the boy is showing potential aptitude for weapon 1." Silence follows in the room as Hasegawa is the first to break it "Aptitude for a numbers weapon?!"

"It wouldn't be a stretch to call both of them abnormal. It's no wonder they managed to use an unadjusted uniorgan." Shinomiya states as Hasegawa looks at both the teens backgrounds that were in both his hands 'Gen Narumi. He has high academic and athletic marks, but he's been suspended from school multiple times due to misconduct. He lost his parents to a kaijuu cataclysm. Hoshiko Mitsuba, the same as Narumi, high academic and athletic marks but was the opposite of him in terms of conduct. She lost her parents to the incident 3 days ago.' Hasegawa read as he looked at both profiles 'no next of kin, huh?'

"Are we done here? We're busy and Hoshiko was ordered by the doctors to take it easy for a while. If that's all, were going home." Hoshiko nudged his side with her elbow at the disregard to officials "Gen that's rude!" She whispered but the boy payed no mind and brought out his hand-held console while linking his arm with Hoshiko. "You're going home, you say? The facility you were living in has been destroyed, and Mitsuba's house has been destroyed as well. You're two are going to live in the evacuation shelters now that Mitsuba has been discharged, aren't you?" Shinomiya questions Narumi as he replies uncaringly "We dont care where we go." Hoshiko could only sweat drop and stand beside Narumi awkwardly as he answered for her so she continued listening on "It"'s not like I've grown attached to any of the orphanages I've been in so far. All they ever did was pass me off to the next place."

"You've always survived by your own strength. That's what you said back there, correct?" Shinomiya pushed on in questioning "Yeah, I don't have any next of kin. None of my teachers or any of the folks at the orphanages have ever done a thing for me. Hoshiko has been the only one to step up, you guys are no different, right? What good does a test proving I'm abnormal do?" Narumi explained, eyes still trained on his console screen "Mitsuba and Narumi...was it? You two should join the defense force." Hoshiko's is left mouth agape and eyes wide at the proposal 'Captain Shinomiya himself is asking me and Gen to join the defense force?!' she though as Narumi finally lifted his eyes from his screen "Say what? The defense force? Us?" Narumi asks skeptically "That's right. Our objective is exterminate kaijuu. Both of your power will ine day be necessary to protect this nation." Silence flowed through the air as Shinomiya waited for Narumi and Hoshiko's response.

"You're just saying that you want to take advantage of us, aren't you?" Narumi replied with his eyes back onto his game "That all depends of the both of you. We accept anyone who shows skills and results. That's the sort of place the first division is." Hasegawa glances to Shinomiya as he though 'Captain Shinomiya seems to be putting a great deal of stock in these kids.' he stares down at the ground in with a face of frustration 'I suppose I'm no different. There's an air currently hanging over the defense force. Stagnation. Mr. Isao has served as the captain of the first division for a long time. Under normal circumstances it wouldn't be surprising for him to transfer to headquarters now that he’s physically past his prime. Vice captain Itami is in a similar boat, considering his skills and career. The reason is plain and simple. We lack an impeccable ace officer.’

‘Now that the captain of the second division, Hikari Shinomiya, once a shoo-in for taking over as captain of the first divison – has died... there is no one to serve as mr. Isao and vice captain Itami’s replacement. But... I sensed something immesurable from both these kids on that rainy day.’ Hasegawa thinks back to the sight of Narumi holding up the head of that kaijuu and Hoshiko finishing off both kaijuu that had attacked her home as he passed by. ‘Some may call it a hunch. “These two can make big changes in the defense force.” That’s what I told myself.’ Narumi looks up in thought and glances at Hoshiko with a smirk, the girl could only sigh and nod as Narumi answered for both yet again.

“So you’ll accept anyone so long as they show skills and results, eh? Sounds interesting.”

The two soon applied for the defense force entrance exam that year both passing with top marks in all parts, written and physical. Standing atop of corpse upon corpse were them as they personally killed for the second round of the exam that was live kaijuu neutralization. Narumi looks up to the drone assigned to him as he spoke “I’m going to see if what you said was true about the defense force.” He said smiling triumphantly while Hoshiko sweat dropped at what she got herself into, she may had no idea what to do after grad, but joining the defense force to follow the only thing she had left in the world was certainly not one of them.

"Gen!" Hoshiko runs up to her best friend and uses his shoulders to jump up "Oi cut it out!" Narumi says stabilizing himself to not let him and the girl who was way too excited for God-knows-what so early in the morning. Hoshiko calms down and walks beside him "What's got you excited so God damn early?" The boy asks and Hoshiko's smile widens"It's almost time for us to graduate!" The girl spills "No more exams! No more waking up so early! Mom and dad have been making me decide on what to do after I grad but I'm still not sure...have you thought of anything?" She glances up at the boy "Nah, I don't really have any plans too, was planning on hanging out with you 'cause I'm going to get kicked out of the orphanage soon enough after grad since im considered an adult." Narumi explains as they finally enter school grounds, changing to their indoor shoes then finally separating to go to their respective classes.

"Bye Gen! See ya' later!" Hoshiko waves at Narumi who waits at the other end of the path that leads to the girl's house as he watches her go inside. It's become routine to Narumi, go to Hoshiko's house to walk to school together, hang out at lunch with Hoshiko, walk Hoshiko home before going home himself. He knew she could walk to and from school herself seeing how skilled she is with the staff from training in Bojutsu with Kendo as her required subject in middle school but he just wanted to make sure she was alright. He's about to enter the premises of his orphanage the sirens blare.

"A kaijuu has emerged in Chiba prefecture, in the city of Sakuragi. We advise all residents in the vicinity to seek safety immediately."

He goes into a sprint back to Hoshiko's house cursing in his head that he should have listened to his gut to hang out after school at your's. On his way he's stopped by large, grasshopper-like kaijuu. He grabs the arm of a deceased kaijuu left by the defense force and uses it as a sword to fight 'All you gotta do is damage that core thing right?' he thought slicing off the head on one of the 3 kaijuu infront of him 'Two more. Let's hurry this up."

Her knees felt weak, it felt like she couldn't breath like there was a lump in her throat that just wouldn't go down, it was as if she couldn't use her voice, was this all a bad dream? Was this really happening? "Ma?...Pa?..." Streams of tears leave Hoshiko's eyes as she stares her parents. Bodies mutilated with body parts cut from their torso's. The kaijuu notice her and start to lunge toward her as she forces herself to snap out of it and peels her eyes off her now deceased parents wiping her face then she runs up the stairs to grab her wooden bō from her room as the kaijuu follow her. She jumps out the window of her room a few cutting her arms, face and legs as she fell. She lead the kaijuu to the street 'Hopefully the defense force gets to me before I get killed.'

The first of the two kaijuu go to attack her as she dodges and hits the side of the its blade making it hit the ground beside her as the second comes to slice her as well. She jumps out of the way leaving the kaijuu to slice at the other kaijuu the mentioned screeching in pain as it's stomach area bleeds from the deep cut. "Ok, got a plan now." As she runs back between the two as both kaijuu prepare to strike at her she jumps up to the height of their necks and as they slice she uses her bō to dodge by stabbing it into the eye of the kaijuu and pulling herself up. She lands on the ground as both kaijuu slice the others heads off, she takes her bō drenched in blood from the eye of the kaijuu. Her vision turns hazy as she starts to give in to the mental stress and pass out.

"Hoshi!"

"Gen!"

The two run to catch eachother in a hug, one that Hoshiko really needed, Narumi could tell by the way she had blood that wasn't her own covering her school uniform clothes and how she looked up at him with tears lining her eyes that soon enough spilled. "Mom and dad....they.." the girl couldn't even continue as tears came flowing down her eyes endlessly choking on her sobs. "Shhh...it's alright, you still have me don't worry..." Narumi says rubbing her back "Let's get out of here, I'll bring you to the shelter. I've still got something to go back for so-" The boy is cut off when Hoshiko grabs him by the collar of his school uniform

"I watched those kaijuu mutilate my parents in my damn living room, I'll be damned if you get that same fate without me getting to do anything about it."

She was frustrated, frustrated at how helpless she felt when she could only stare at her parents as it happeneds frustrated that she could have done something, frustrated that it wouldn't have become this if she could have just moved but now she will, she'll pull herself together to protect the only thing she had left "Alright then..." Narumi walks toward the carcass of one of the dceceased kaijuu then breaks off one of its legs "We'll stick this onto your bō so you can actually kill these things"

The two got seperated in a fight with multiple grasshopper kaijuu after the last one remaining had run off with Narumi running after it. Hoshiko was feeling weaker and weaker after the mental and physical stress today had on her it definitely didn't help her when it started raining sending chills throughout her body. She was about to pass out until she heard Narumi's yelling and saw a group of defense officers 'He's okay!' but the closer she got the darker her vision became until it all faded to black with a faint shout of her name from a familiar voice and loud crashing occuring.

A gasp is the first sound that escapes Hoshiko as sat up in her hospital bed startlig the boy who was laying his head on her thigh as he slept sitting in a chair. "What the hell?!" Narumi yells out due to the sudden movement from the formerly limp body only to see the girl's harsh breathing as she frantically looked around when he raises his head to which he moves to rub her back and bring her in for a hug "Hey it's okay, it's over now don't worry about it..." Narumi grabs Hoshiko's face by the cheeks and makes her look up at him as his other hand held on of her own to his chest to feel his beating heart "...I'm okay see? You're okay too, take deep breaths alright? calm down for me." he says comfortingly as he brings her in for another hug feeling her breathing steady.

The steady breathing unfortunately doesn't last as quiet sobs and tears start to come out of her. "Ma and pa are gone..." Hoshiko sobs as she clutches onto Narumi's jacket as if he were going to leave like that if she let up for even just a second, in return Narumi holds her just a little bit tighter.

"...don't leave me too, 'kay?"

"I promise."

13 years ago...

A 12 year old Hoshiko stands before a crowd of older boys unconscious on the floor and a boy her age in the center of the chaos.

"Hoy! Your all bruised up!" She yells cupping her hands around her mouth to emphasize her voice "What's it to you?!" The boy yells as he snaps his head in her direction with a scowl on his face which morphs into surprise as the girl walks towards him avoiding from stepping on the boys on the floor to grab the bruised boy's wrist. "Oi?!-" was all the boy could yell before he was being pulled and yelled at "I'm going to patch you up at my house! No complaining!" The girl exclaims.

Narumi, Hoshiko learns, hisses at the antiseptic she dabs on the boy's wounds. The boy was propped up on a counter, his head unfortunately forced by the girl to rest on her palm as he flinched away from the burn of it on his cuts. "You take punches but not betadine?" She laughs as she grabs a plaster to place on his face as she hears him huff in annoyance. "Aren't you that guy who aces all his classes but can't stay unsuspended for the life of him? We go to the same school." Hoshiko says gently placing the plaster on his face caressing it with her thumb to smooth it out. "Yeah, you done yet? If you are, I got a game to finish so-" Narumi was about to jump off the kitchen counter untill Hoshiko stopped him.

"Go to me when you get bruised up again." Hoshiko says sternly holding onto the boy's arm "Thank you so much, mitsuba-san" he says just as sternly until he yells out again "IS WHAT I WOULD SAY IF YOU DIDN'T NAG THE WHOLE TIME?! YOU'RE THE ONE WHO WANTED THIS AND YOUR THE ONE COMPLAININ'?" Narumi yells holding up his middle finger, in retaliation, she holds up her own and argues back "My conscience couldn't walk away when i saw you, okay!? I knew first aid anyway my mom taught me..."

Silence follows the outburst as Narumi scoffs "I don't care about you or your conscience if that's all that made you want to do this. It's just because you want to feel good about yourself..." He lowly says to the girl who's eyes widen at the anger and the twinge of sorrow in his words. "...I've always survived on my own no one has done me any good in this world anyway so leave me alone."

Narumi finally jumps off the counter top but was stopped at the front door yet again "You sure are stubborn." He says, an irk mark appearing on his cheek. "I get that a lot" Hoshiko smirks as she continues "Listen, you say the world hasn't done good for you right? Well let me be the first to give you good, come here whenever you like, let's be friends." The boy infront of her stares in shock and confusion 'Why the hell is this kid doing this..' "You have a wierd way of making friends you know that." The girl nods and moves out of the way of the door "I know, that's all I gotta say so your free to go." Narumi reaches for the doorknob and as he twists it Hoshiko speaks up again "I hope next time you come over it's not after you beat up more random guys alright?"

"Are you kidding me." Hoshiko was out in another one of her afternoon walks to see Narumi beating up another bunch of older boys. 'might as well lessen my job later' she thinks as she digs around in her pocket 'there you are...' she says grabbing her magic stick as she pulls the screw at the end and it extends and she goes to join in on the fight.

"You don't have to do this." Narumi says holding a guy by his hair as he watches Hoshiko hit another with the end of her stick "I don't learn bojutsu to just rot in the dojo you know." She huffs as the last of the group was on the floor to then turn to the boy she was with -

"Guess I'm going to be patching you up again, right?"

"Do whatever you want"

"You don't have to do this." Narumi says for the second time that day "But I want to" the boy who was sat yet again on her counter top furrows his eyebrows in frustration "You'll stop doing it eventually when you don't want to anymore." He says, the boy feels a slight pang in his chest at his comment "Nah I could get used to this I like patching you up now, you are my friend now, right?" Narumi stares at her as she smoothens the plaster on his cheek again with her thumb "You were serious about that?" And the girl hums as she began to clean up the mess she made.

"I better not catch you in a fight again, sheesh are you like a gangster or something? So many people have some sort of grudge on you. Its the weekend and all you've been up to is being ganged up on??" She says bewildered "Not my fault they don't mind their own business." The boy looks away his bangs covering his eyes Hoshiko then brightens up at the sight "I'll be right back!" She says before disappearing up the stairs leaving Narumi in the kitchen, from his position he can clearly see the living room so curiosity takes over him as he jumps off the counter to explore the room.

'Theres only older pictures of them together' Narumi thought as he stared at the family pictures on the wall 'they have a huge tv and a console too, might stay here a while then' crouching down to look at the console connected to the tv as he heard footsteps going down the stairs "Got you something!" Hoshiko says hiding an object in her hands as she descends the stairs "Look!" She stands beside Narumi to show him multiple clips shaped like stars "I am NOT wearing those." He glares at her as she laughs "Come on! It's to get your hair out of your face!" She whines as she tries to put it in his hair "No way! I like my hair like this!" He yells trying to push her hands away "Just this once!!"

The couch cushions were all over the living room, pictures were now hanging crookedly on the wall, coffee table not in the same position it was in before from the wrestling the two children did as Narumi sits with a scowl on his face as he plays with Hoshiko on her console with an assortment of different colored star clips in his hair "They look good on you" Hoshiko snickers without looking away from the screen "Shut up." The boy says as he glares at the tv in frustration "How are you so good at this!" he complains as the girl laughs "You're just ass at it thats why." she says beating Narumi in a match for the 3rd time "Forget it! I'm going home!" He says slamming the controller on the coffee table "No you aren't! You're helping me clean the mess we made!" The boy grows an irk mark at the girl's demand "Why should I clean?! You started it?!" He yells pointing a finger at the girl "You were the one who started throwing pillows!" She argues back.

"That was harder than I thought..." Hoshiko says looking at the living room they just cleaned "I would have been home by now fighting the final boss of my game." Narumi crosses his arms as he stands beside her "Well you're free to go home now." The girl says looking at the boy beside her as they walk to the door. "Did you have fun?" She says teasingly to Narumi's displeasure "...It was ok" he rolls his eyes and continues "Do I really have to keep these on?!" He says angrily and Hoshiko laughs at his frustration "Duh! I have loads of those things so its fine if you keep them." Narumi huffs out a breath and turns his back to the girl "Fine, I'm going home" he says as he walks away from the door raising his hand to wave "Bye! Get home safe!" The girl yells. On his way back to the orphanage Narumi feels a tingle in his chest 'The world is finally showing me some good huh?'

But you reluctantly give him the bowl anyways so he can have a taste. Hes fine at first and says its yummy and gives the bowl back then a few seconds later he's yelling and running around the house looking for something to cool down his tongue because he feels like it's on fire. After its all resolved by a big serving of ice cream he sits down besides you and eyes at the noodles you're still eating and then he goes like "how the hell do you handle that" and stink eyes the food in your hands and you just laugh it off saying you're used to the spice. In conclusion he's never tasting any of your food before asking if its spicy or not anymore, mans became skeptical of your food.

Your hearts beating fast as you hear him laugh, you feel like from the joy you feel you're on your one way ticket to the heavens. Just seeing him look at you with so much love has you being putty in his hands. He grabs you by your hand and you truely think "this is love" as you slowly dance with him in the empty clearance outside the city you and him found a few months back that soon became your hang out spot, all of this with your favorite song playing softly in the background was just the perfect moment. You two are giggling like children and you face the part of the clearance that faced the city and yelled out how much you loved him, he laughs and does the same for his love for you.

You two soon ran out of energy running and screaming around so you two settled for lying beside eachother gazing at the sky, or rather at eachother. None of the two had their attention on the starry sky infront of them but instead focused on eachother, hands intertwined still, you get up as the music still plays in the background.

"May i have this dance?" You bow and hold out your hand inviting Kurona to dance "why ofcourse" as he puts his hand in your's and you pull him closer to put your other hand on his shoulder while his goes to your waist. You two look at eachother with so much love, you dont even realize it, realize that he really is all that you need.

He stares at your lips from across the room thats a pretty shade of red, it reminds him of a rose. Kurona wishes he could stop time to just stare at how beautiful you are. You two have been exchanging glances the whole period and both have been admiring the other from their seat. The teacher finally dismisses and you two are out of the classroom as fast as you can yet again laughing as you grab his face and kiss him on the lips, he feels like he's in a dream, he never wants to wake up however, just having you look so pretty infront of him is all he ever needs.

Now though, both of you are older, no longer the same teens you were back then but one thing never changed, that was your love for eachother. "Love, do you still remember?" Kurona starts and you tilt your head in confusion and he goes infront of you and holds both of your hands "when we startazed here as teens, instead of the stars, i was looking at you and you looked so beautiful" you blushed at his words "and when you asked me to dance? Do you remember that too? I felt so happy to be dancing with you, it felt so freeing to be with you. You are my rest from everything stressing. Kurona lets go of your hands and backs away "Everytime I'll close my eyes, and until our last dance, I know your the one I'll love for the rest of my life" he gets on one knee and opens a small black box displaying the most beautiful ring you've ever seen, you star tearing up as he says "Will you marry me?" You dont think twice to jump into his arms as you both fall to the ground, crying tears of joy as you repeat over and over the words yes.
