What I Want From a Man: Bring Me Some Meat And Be Quiet
Tumblr media
I have but a heartbeat to eat before the milk truck is open for business. By milk truck I mean my breasts, which are deliciously deformed these days whenever the ducts get full.
Tumblr media
Caleb and I are down in Savannah for the holidays, as I’ve said like a million times on Facebook. We’re here to see his family. I love it here, and I love his family, but I confess to not having wanted to leave New York. I’ve spent my entire adult life not comfortable sitting still, but over the past few weeks, I barely wanted to leave the house. I just wanted to be alone with my baby in a tiny, warm space, keeping her safe and happy.
Tumblr media
During this time, my relationship with Caleb has really suffered. At first, I didn’t care that it was suffering, I just wanted him to be quiet and not annoy me. It was the hormones. Husband hatred is ubiquitous after you give birth, from what I can tell talking to other women. There’s a reason why men used to go out hunting all of the time in primitive times. It’s because having them around is a pain in the ass. They need a lot of attention. Also thanks to our patriarchal society, they are constantly telling you what to do; when you react to this negatively, they treat you like you’re crazy. Even the best husbands do this, I think.

Amen To the Future: A White Male’s Perspective on the Election
One of the most infuriating things in the aftermath of the election is the reemergence of the emboldened Bernie Bro on social media, talking about how if only their candidate had been elected in the primary, then there would be no Donald Trump as President. Of course, not realizing that the subtext of what they’re saying is that a woman can win a fucking primary, win the popular vote in the election, and still, it would have been the old fucking white dude who would have saved us. BECAUSE THE WOMAN IS A DEVIL LET’S BE HONEST.
It’s making me so angry that I haven’t been able to eat all day, and that’s bad. I’m a breastfeeding mother who needs fat to feed her child! I wish I could say that I’ll stay off social media, but I realize that what my mandate is as a human being is to write. And part of being a good writer is listening to the “other side,” and engaging in debates, and testing my fucking opinions. So I’ll stuff my mouth full of potato chips and keep on absorbing information that infuriates me for the good of the women in politics I want to defend.
I might not change a lot of minds, but I do know that I’ve affected my brother. My brother is a 20 year old handsome white male from a rich family. As things still stand, he will inherit the earth. But yesterday, he called me in the early morning sobbing that Donald Trump was elected President of the United States.
I asked him to write his thoughts about the election. They are below. Amen to the future.

By Brendan Walsh
I am surprisingly very shaken by the results of this election. I never imagined that not only Donald Trump would win, but also that I would actually hurt. The mood I’m in is one that only comes every so often, and almost always after a great heartache.

I’m listening to Rick Shenkman, a political journalist and author, speak on the Leonard Lopate show on NPR, and I think he just offered the best (and perhaps only) explanation for why people support Donald Trump.
He says that people don’t vote for politicians who make them feel badly about themselves; instead, they vote for politicians who make them feel smart. Donald Trump makes his supporters feel like all of their hunches and suspicions are correct — and that even though everyone else is telling them they’re bigoted idiots, actually, they’re really onto something. And moreover, Trump is a billionaire, so by that measure alone, he must know what he’s talking about.
It’s so simple, and so true. No offense if you’re a Trump supporter, but in essence, you probably like him because he makes stupid people feel smart.
