After having her favorite dress ruined by a total stranger Lexie counts the day a loss and heads to the resort restaurant to grab a bite to eat before losing herself in paperwork for the rest of the night. Once at her table, she folds her hands and lays her head on the surface, “Get me whatever as long as it won’t go down badly with wine. White wine!” she says to the waitress, not even looking up. “Oh and I’m allergic to peanuts.” @saustens

raquelle handed the brunette another cloth napkin, “are you sure? please let me buy you a new dress or at least get it dry cleaned for you? i feel terrible.” the girl furrowed her browed as she felt guilty for ruining such a gorgeous dress. raquelle got paid generously from the government and wasn’t hesitant to pay for something she had broken. the girl chuckled, “yeah– same here, i can’t believe their not embarrassed, or why someone isn’t kicking them out.”

“don’t worry about it, i’ll just claim on my taxes or i’ll figure something out. i’m sure if i rush it to a cleaner now it’ll look good as new when i pick it up,” or they could mess the fabric up even worse as had happened the last time she’d taken a dress this expensive to a bad dry cleaner, but she had hope. “oh i don’t know, it’s free entertainment, and i’m not sure the bartender will complain when it’s keep people glued to their seats, and their mouths on their drinks,” she says gesturing at other patrons, some blatantly staring, others simply peeking.

“Oh no harm, no foul love.” Lexie says with a sad smile, watching the drink splash onto her white dress as if in slow-motion. This was one of her favorites, but she had a couple others just like it in her suite. Not many were as expensive though. She supposes this is what she gets for wearing a dress that costs as much as her plane ticket here and back. “It’s fine, I was getting ready to leave soon anyway. But, I just got wrapped up I guess.” she gestures at the arguing couple she’d been eying intently. Real life was always more interesting than a soap. 

raquelle sipped her glass of wine where she was having a snack for one at the elegant resort bar, when she was interrupted by some kind of quarrel between a younger woman and an older man. they were yelling loud enough for everyone in the bar to clearly hear them. it seemed to be something about a text by another girl, but raquelle was only half listening when she accidentally sat her glass down in the same exact spot someone else’s glass was, ultimately spilling the other’s drink. “oh my– i’m so sorry,” she realized and quickly grabbed a cloth napkin near by and got out of her seat to clean up the mess. “i’ll buy you another, i swear,” she stated as she looked up at the other.

“I don’t particularly love their music, but it seems like I’m here every night,” Lexie muses aloud. Probably because she’ll support her brother in his every endeavor, even if she doesn’t know that she loves his choice. “I mean the lead singer is a wonderful performer, but I don’t think that this is my genre.” she says, gesturing at the guitarists, and drummer. @opalwth

caspian chuckled the second he saw his childhood friend. they’d known each other for a good time and honestly she was a sight for sore eyes. “happy new year’s lex.” he replied easily, leaning in and kissing her cheek quickly, “drama, as usual, i came her to escape but it seems everyone followed me here.” he joked.

Her smile grows dim at the reminder, “Ah yes, Daddy mentioned something had happened. Don’t tell me that twat followed you all the way to the near middle-of-nowhere?” but really the last thing she should be doing is reminding him of a failed engagement right? “Aside from that though, how are you liking Wintergreen? It’s my first time here, but it’s rather charming.”

it was new years after all, and arden was determined to have some fun. plus, now with his sister here to spend sometime with him, he really didn’t have an excuse. he ordered a round of shots, and brought them back to the table. “alright sister, are you ready to bring in the new year?” he had his devious smile, the one that always called for trouble.

she’d wandered for a bit relying on pure luck to guide her to her brother, and as luck would have it, found him in less than ten minutes. she wishes she’d had that ability as a child. “oh leslie you know i don’t drink,” she starts ready to wave him off. but well she’d just said she’d spend more time with her friends and family right? “or actually, no pass me one.”

“Sitting all alone at the bar is, honestly, just having a little quiet time. Or it was having a little quiet time,” he countered. Who was she, judging him on his life choices of sitting alone at the bar? “I wasn’t trying to start a conversation, actually. You just overheard.” He figured he’d put it out in the open. Why not?

“If that’s the case sorry to have bothered you,” she responds, not quite sure if she’s miffed or embarrassed. Lexie’s used to being overlooked at events, not whatever this scenario is. “I’m going to find someone to dance with before midnight I suppose. Have a happy New Year’s!” she says half-heartedly, not even glancing at him as she scoops her dress out from under the bar and walks off.

Nate smirked. “What gives you the idea that I have problems? I’m as problem free as they come.” A blatant lie. “I’m not wallowing. I’m having a drink and watching the party.”

“Problem free isn’t sitting all alone at the bar. And problem free strikes me as a little lonely, I mean you were the one to strike up a conversation with a total stranger.”

“Yeah? Now’s the time to make them if you’re going to, and you might end up surprising yourself,” Addy explained. “That’s a good resolution to have, though. And undoubtedly they’ll appreciate it.”

“Yeah better tonight, maybe I’ll hold myself to it.” She gulps down the last of her glass of water and turns to go, “I’m going to go see if I can find my twin I’ll see you around love. Happy New Year’s Eve!”

it was a rare moment that caspian was actually away from libby that night, but he didn’t need to follow her to the restroom now did he? he leaned against the bar and watched everyone who walked by, and smirked when someone approached him. “am i in your way, or did you need me for something?” he asked.

“Wipe that smirk off your face Caspian Blythe,” Lexie says, one eyebrow raised in judgment. Before the look melts off her face, and she grins at him. “Happy New Year’s Cas, I didn’t think I’d run into you here, or well tonight for that matter. What are you doing all the way in Wintergreen?”

“Really, so Alibaba is not a threat at all?” Dana raised her brows, if Lexie was really going to take the world over she’d need to consider the real threat of affordable shopping services. “Yes! I’m totally going to the shelter with you I’m about it. I need to pet all the puppies.”

“Their stock took a 2% hit tonight, I’m not sure how much of a threat they are yet. I’ll reassess in a week or two,” she’s grateful Dana’s looking out for the wellbeing of her company, sometimes she does need the reminder of an industry-adjacent product’s existence. “You can look after the puppies, and I’ll go find myself a kitten. How does your schedule look next week?”

Nate furrowed his eyebrows and watched as she ordered a wine and ditched the martini. “Yep… that’s exactly what I was aiming for,” he muttered. “I came here with the sole intention for you to change your drink.”

“No need for your sass young man, we’re changing tracks to your problem now,” she says sipping her chardonnay, and feeling nice enough to inquire after him. “Why are you at the bar all alone wallowing in problems?”

“I want to make a bit more of an effort to sort of… be with the people,” she waved a hand to motion to the room of people. “And it’s always just easier for me to hang out at the bar even when I’m not working. But I feel like I’m there all the time… and you know… like Ariel says, I wanna be where the people are.”

Any other night Lexie’s reaction to what Addy’s saying about putting people first would be mirth. But, well call her sentimental because she’s been wishing other people a ‘Happy New Year’ for hours already, but she thinks maybe Addy’s words don’t just apply to her own business. “You know I think I will make a resolution. Maybe I should spend a little more time with the people I care about.”

Nate was about to quickly come up with something to explain his muttered words when she’d continued speaking and provided him with an answer anyway. He nodded. “Yeah, you’re right. If you can’t drink it now, when can you?” 

“Next year at the same time? Or the year after that? Or even the year after that one? You’re right I’m gonna have a lot more chances to try a martini, and I shouldn’t bother with that tonight.” She calls the bartender over to switch her drink out for wine. “Thanks stranger!”

“That’s a good habit to have, then. I’m kind of envious of you,” she chuckled. “I don’t write a list, really. I have a few like, in my brain.” She tapped the side of my head. “My number one is to spend less time at the bar when I don’t need to be there, so we’ll see how that goes.”

“Ah work, I think my parents would be thrilled if I made a similar resolution, but I can’t help it. There’s just too much to work on all the time, and I can’t be off twiddling my thumbs when I should be working on the company.” Excuses, excuses. She could probably at least delegate some of her work.

Lexie’s composure vanishes in the face of that comment, and she snorts. “I think that you’ve had a little too much to drink Larsen. Also men aren’t worth shit so I think you should probably lower your standards from Prince Charming to caveman.”

“i’m seeking a beautiful man to whisk me away at midnight, fabio style.” atticus slurred, though only slightly intoxicated he found that leaning into the trope allowed him to get away with things he couldn’t sober.

Nate leant up against the wall and took a sip of his beer. He’d only come to the party because he’d done so for the last two years and breaking the tradition seemed a little daunting, even though it wasn’t that big of a deal. Part of him insisted that he go out there and join the others on the dance floor, but the sensible part of him talked himself out of it – he didn’t fancy starting off the new year with embarrassment. He chuckled at the thought. “Yeah, not a good idea,” he muttered under his breath.

“What’s not a good idea?” Lexie asks, looking up from the alcoholic drink she’d been trying to psych herself up to drink. “Not a good idea to drink this? Cause I totally agree, but it is New Year’s Eve right?” By this age drinking should be as easy as breathing, but she had barely even touched wine since she’d turned twenty-one, and she certainly hasn’t tried anything with vodka that hasn’t been cooked out of it.”
