Care During Pregnancy
Every married couple wishes to have a child of their own. There is nothing overwhelming and exciting in a woman’s life than to bring a new life. Woman’s body goes through the roller coaster of hormones that affects the appetite, mood swings and most importantly metabolism. A pregnant woman’s diet and health is the major concern during and after pregnancy.
From the time a woman conceives till the time she gives birth is very crucial. With it comes a long list of Dos and DONTs.The diet should be rich in folic acid, iron, calcium and vitamins.
Carrying a baby for nine long months demands extra nutrients not extra food. It is important to be responsible enough to know what the mother and a child needs. A balanced diet serves the purpose. Excessive weight gain and excessive weight loss both is a concern during pregnancy.
While choosing the diet keep the following things in mind-
-Drink lot of water and keep yourself hydrated
-Cut the sugar intake to avoid gestational diabetes
-Go for fresh organic fruits and vegetables
-Choose whole grain food
-Avoid alcohol and do not smoke
-Say NO to preserved or canned foods
-Take supplements as suggested by the health care professional
INDIAN DIET DURING PREGNANCY
Meat,Fish,Eggs and Dry fruits are rich in protein, iron and zinc. A pregnant woman’s body demands a lot of protein starting from the end of the first half of pregnancy. The extra protein is essential for the formation of new tissues.
Cheese, milk and yogurt are a great food during pregnancy. All these are rich in calcium, protein, vitamin D and phosphorus.
Fresh organic fruits serve a full package for vitamin A and C. Also they are fibrous and rich in potassium. It is recommended to have more than three servings a day.
Leafy vegetables such as spinach-methi-sarsoetc, carrot, corn, sweet potatoes are rich in folic acid, vitamin A and C.
