Vaporwave Sanwa Dreamcast Agetec mod done by myself. Vaporwave artwork by @vincenttrinidadart an excellent print I ordered from his shop. All premium Sanwa joystick and button parts. Sanwa mesh balltop. Custom Bison shadaloo clear dustwasher. The best guide online by far is the DC Agetec mod video on youtube by @scanlinecity even if you aren't doing a mod yourself it's a great techie watch. I've done many partial mods but I wanted to mod an Agetec DC stick from start to finish myself. As you will see in the pics, it requires alot of dremeling away plastic to fit in the Sanwa JLF and around the button casings, also had to dremel down the VMU surface plastic as it sticks out which got in the way if art/plexi. The original metal plate has about 28mm button holes which is no good for the standard 30mm buttons arcades use. You have to dremel the metal holes wider to fit. I dremelled mine but I also had a clear plexi cut for me with 300mm holes many years ago from a friend at tournaments and just never used it until now. I would normally solder but instead I tried out heat wire connectors to attach the original cables to the new quick disconnects which worked a charm. I used cable ties and sticky cable holders to tidy up the inside wiring a bit. I also painted the front panel security screws pink to match the aesthetic. Stick works perfectly for all my Dreamcast fighting games and looks fantastic. Metal Gear Solid - 1998 Konami One of the alltime greats. Kojima's masterpiece. The characters. The boss fights. The stealth and especially the easter eggs littered throughout are truly amazing. Funny secret dialogue options. Watching and rewatching Meryl exercise through the vents. Changing the controller port so Psycho Mantis can't read your inputs. Wolves wizzing on your cardboard box so you dont get attacked haha! Meryl's codec number famously on the case is even on the back of the PS1 Classic box!! Before speedrunning was as mainstream as it is I loved shaving 100ths of a second off my MGS VR Missions!! Guilty Gear XX Accent Core - 2006 Arc System Works My alltime favourite competitive fighting game. We ran many Ranking Battle seasons years ago for it and I met alot of lifelong friends through travelling the country for Guilty Gear tournaments. Zappa is my fave fighting game character ever. So unique and nothing like any fighter in any other game. He is basically 5 characters in 1. When they released the +R revision and rebalance I didn't play it because I loved the normal Accent Core so much. Bit for GGXXAC+R they are now beta testing GGPO rollback this weekend and it is working a treat! I've already played some great sets against old friends and family. Policenauts - Hideo Kojima PC-98 1994 This glorious upscaled pixel perfect PC-98 image was done by @densetsu.ch give them a follow! I remember first seeing Policenauts posters in Metal Gear Solid and wondering what it was haha. Alot of people only know this particular image from vaporwave/synthwave/cyberpunk radio and music streams/youtube channels. You often see in the comments people asking what it's from. Snatcher is much more widely known and much easier to get hold of in English due to its western release but I always remembered Policenauts. Years on I came across the Junker HQ page and an English fan translation! Easy enough to emulate for PSX. But I do far prefer the art in the PC-98 version. Sadly though I can't seem to find and English patch for it. Hardcoregaming101 have a great article detailing the differences in Policenauts ports you should check out. Snatcher One of the games that truly shaped my interest in cyberpunk, neotokyo, vaporwave and all that neon lovely stuff. Also my obsession with pixel art. All the branching dialogues along with easter egg conversations just fit Kojima's style perfectly. The game is a love letter to the phenomenal movie that is Blade Runner. The art for the game is unreal, whether it's the gorgeous pixel neo kobe cityscapes or the soft promo, game cover and manual art pieces. King of Fighters XIII for #SNKsunday 🕹🕹 I put down KOF98 down for 5 minutes to go back to a beautiful game. I've included a few simple HD Neomax hit cinfirm combos for my personal team along with videos of my inputs. STUNNING pixel art, people have done videos analysing the animation, even thing's like Kim Kaphwan's trousers! KOF13 was played alot by my local fgc. We ran Tournaments and Ranking Battles regularly. I remember when 'Team DLC' eventually came out and started dominating the meta and major tournaments. EX Iori, EX Kyo and the infamous Mr. Karate 😄 Touch of Deaths everywhere Iori lost his powers and became Claw Iori, I thought this was so cool as I'd spent years using standard Iori and he was still good! KOF14 was a major downgrade from 13 but I have high hopes for KOF15. Especially with how well they made the recent Samurai Shodown. Power Stone Dreamcast 1999 Capcom I would play this with my brother for hours! I remember when I first went on the London stage swinging from lamp posts! SOOO MUCH FUN For a 3D battle arena fighter it had tons of the Capcom charm and a solid engine. Character art is amazing and they all have so much personality. I felt that the sequel Power Stone 2 was too manic with 4 players, more gems, hundreds of items and tons of stage hazards/transitions. 1v1 with 3 power gems and a few items meant you focused more on the intricacies of the combat mechanics. Not alot of people know that there was an actual short lived Power Stone anime too. Proper average but you can watch it on youtube if you're bored. I would love a Switch Collection (there was a PSP one) with online play but I'm not holding my breath. I've always been a console gamer. From SNES through Dreamcast to PS4. I only ever had a poor mans PC for playing arcade roms and making posters/banners in photoshop for local fighting game tournaments 🕹🕹 A good friend of mine @neanderphil (and his wee boy Theo 💕) built me a PC!! Future proof'd so I can upgrade some bits too. Star Gladiator 2 / Plasma Sword on Dreamcast by Capcom 1998 I was never sure why they changed the name to Plasma Sword for the west. Far worse imo. The Japanese cover is fantastic and I've always wanted the poster version of it. Again the cover art, manual and disc art we got in the west were awful in comparison as you can see. The U.S. release is slightly better than PAL but still not a patch on the Japanese copy. "Despite running on hardware based on the Sony PlayStation, the game was instead ported to the Dreamcast" This sequel removed characters Rimgal and Kappah and added 10 pallette swaps as a cheap way to bolster the roster. Black Hayato was made into a seperate character so all was forgiven haha. Plasma Field moves were added and are real fun whilst being unique to every character. The first game had the subtitle 'EPISODE 1' yet this wasn't used again. Love this game BUT it is one of the rare DC games that does not support VGA so I have to change cables when playing. Star Gladiator PS1 1996 by Capcom. This series has so much personality, galactic bounty hunters, light sabers, conehead aliens and Bilstein... a mad scientist with a plasma broadsword! The Japanese version has a far better full colour manual and cover art as you can see in the pics. I played this (and its sequel) alot growing up, Black Hayato was just the coolest. Not much has been done with the series for years but Hayato made his way to Marvel vs Capcom 2 and June had her costume put into Street Fighter V for Chun-Li! Dreamcast Agetec Arcade Stick 🕹🕹 My 2nd one, great condition and ready for modding. I will be putting in either full Seimitsu LS55 or Sanwa JLF, not decided yet, along with new buttons. I have a plexi cover to replace the metal plate and some artwork ready too. Always loved the Dreamcast stick, it is the perfect size for both comfortable play and portability for tournaments. That's why I had my first one modded for PS2. The best "official" arcade stick along side a console. Much better than the saturn and virtua sticks. However SEGA didnt actually make the stick. Agetec were the U.S. division of ASCII that split into it's own company. ASCII are also well known for their fantastic controllers. The stock joystick itself isn't bad! It's no Sanwa JLF but definitely useable! The stock buttons however are not great at all and are the only major thing that lets the stick down, they can stick in place and just don't feel good to push. Street Fighter Anniversary Collection: Official Fighter's Guide by Bradygames. Most official fighting game guides around this time and before it were useless. They often didn't contain anything that would actually teach you how to play competitively and were mostly glorified manuals. Players had to resort to forums (like SRK) or faqs for detailed information, I know I did. And before that it was just stuff you learned when getting destroyed by someone in the arcade! This guide was a great combination of everything. It had detailed descriptions of ingame mechanics but still easy to swallow. Character strats along with artwork and even a soundtrack CD! Moero! Justice Gakuen / Rival Schools 2 is my fave ever videogame. I would play for countless hours with my brother even when he didn't want to "Just one more game! Honest!". I love everything from the artwork and character designs by Edayan to the over the top combos and team super moves you'd expect from Capcom 🕹🕹 The Japanese version (just like RS1) has loads of extras that were removed from the western releases due to the lengthy amount of translation needed like the boardgame and character edit modes: "As with School Life Mode in the original Rival Schools, though, this boardgame is not included in non-Japanese ports of Project Justice due to the amount of time it would take to translate the mode. Instead, several unlockable sub-characters were included in these ports, built from the character creation parts in the Japanese version" It has some balance issues when played competitively *ahem Roy otg backflip relauch ahem* but no fighting game I have ever played has had this much personality. And now Akira will be added to Street Fighter V along with a Rival Schools stage! Rival Schools comic was killed off before it even had a chance. Udon got the rights to the RS series and released a pilot chapter in the Capcom Summer Special 2004. Fantastic art of Natsu, Hinata, Kyoko and Hideo on the cover. I remember being blown away when I saw it. Super excited. The art quality inside takes a little dip but it's still kinda close to Edayan's phenomenal work on the game. I was insanely ready for the comics actual release. Stories about Taiyo high, kidnappings, Hyo and Kyosuke's difficult sibling relationship and of course the fights between the distinct schools! Then.... issue 1 came out and I was brimming with excitement! But wait, the cover art wasn't too good.... both variants. Opened the comic.... what is this complete black and white mess?! The story is so bland too?! I was mortified. Actually couldn't believe it. LOOK AT KYOSUKE'S MASSIVE FEATURELESS EGG OF A HEAD! What a joke.
