Kanetsugu Angst

Honestly... I’ve had this in my drafts for like half a year and I chicken out every time I think about posting it. But I felt like today is the day!

GIANT THANKS to @thegreenfairy25 for being a beta reader and helping me get the story set in my head!

-No... Untie me. Kanetsugu, free me. It’s an order! LET ME KILL HIM!!! - the hellbound screeching of his friend and Lord, so unlike the man he saw everyday, broke Kanetsugu’s already torn and bleeding heart. 

In his righteous fury the Lord couldn’t see how much it pained the father. He couldn’t see the crystal sheen over his best friend’s eyes.

He, who had lost everything, who lost the most out of everybody in the castle. 

Bright, bloodshot, cold eyes were staring right at him but Kanestugu didn’t bulge. Kenshin was tied with his back to a pillar in the corner of the room, his bedding moved so no bruises would dare bloom on his pale legs and body.

- I’m sorry my Lord, but I cannot. Direct orders from Lord Shingen. You and Kageie will be under house arrest until after the trial is over-...

All of the pain and memories he had held on to for the past weeks came crashing down like a tsunami on top of a lonely fishing boat caught far away from the shore.

Memories of her. All the times they had tea on the veranda in Spring when it was warm enough again after months of snow. The town walks. Her bright smile that made his heart flutter and feel forever young. The hours he spent by her side when she was sick. The feel of her hair when he would spend hours putting it back in place after a night of tossing and turning that left her looking like an uncut bonsai. The worry that made his mind go blank when he saw her scraped knees. The pride he felt when she told him she was fine and she was a big girl. The memories of the first time she said “I love you”. Her first steps. Her first words. Her first smile at him.

She was gone...
