Primate For the Week: Just home from its night of foraging for leaves, a Northern Sportive Lemur (Lepilemur septentrionalis) settles into its tree home in Ankarana NP, Madagascar. We stopped by 3 hours later to find it sunken down in its hole and falling asleep. These lemurs are Critically Endangered due to habitat loss and hunting in spite of being officially protected. Fun fact: Sportive lemurs are similar to rabbits in that they eat their feces in order to allow gut bacteria to help them digest their food a second time. ©2017 Kathy West Studios

Enjoy the new blog on my Kathy West Studios webpage – “Stories Behind the Photos- I. Strikingly Beautiful and Behaviorally Fascinating, Tropic Birds”: Stories, behavior and natural history of the species that I photograph.
Through my images I hope to bring a deeper understanding of the value of the natural world to further research and conservation.
