soooo life update, i guess. i haven’t coded or really rped in about a year and a half and it’s been hard coming back from that.

however, i’ve decided to go back and put together all of my old site codes - insta, dev, cell, etc - and i’m going to sell them in sets. so if anybody still cares about my stuff, keep an eye out lol.

unfortunately no, sorry! i moved at the end of november and i’ve managed to get on my laptop a total of three times since. my coding muse took a big hit because of the move and some other personal stuff, but once i get back into the swing of things, i’ll make sure to keep everybody updated!

lately i wasn’t feeling very muse-y when it came to new skins but i ended up making this in the span of a couple days because i got inspiration for the forum rows and just went from there. i’m so stupidly proud of this skin and i really went back and forth on whether i should sell it or not, but in the end, i’ve decided on selling it.

yung, dumb, broke as hell, and desperate for cash skin (and full set of codes) for sale - $180

hey y’all, it’s been a minute! unfortunately, i’ve recently ran myself into a huge emergency vet bill because my dog swiped some food off the counter (who allowed her to learn how to do that? god?) and while i’m super relieved she’s okay and glad we went in, it’s put a HUGE damper in my finances – we just recently moved and i’m already in debt from that, so a $500 bill isn’t exactly what i need.

why are your commissions so expensive? id love to order one but i cant afford it...

i’ve actually gotten this question quite a few times and did my best to always answer privately, but i might as well just go public with it so the answer is out there. hopefully this will be helpful not only in my case, but others as well! 

i’m really sorry if you can’t afford mine (or anyone else’s) commission prices! and it probably sucks to hear, but i’m really underselling myself as it is. on average, my commissions ring up to about $250 - $275. that’s $10/hr for 25-27 hours. if i’m being quite honest, some commissions take me a lot longer than that, especially if a design idea is something new or difficult for me to implement coding wise, but i cap it off anyways.

according to the 14th edition of the graphics artists guild handbook: pricing & ethical guidelines (the design industry bible, tbh), freelance web designers charge approximately $90/hr and front-end web developers charge approximately $95/hr (there’s a newer edition of the book out, so there’s chances prices have fluctuated). considering i create the design for these commissions and code them out, that’s taking the role of both a designer and developer. according to these guidelines, i should be charging more than $100/hr. according to these guidelines, i should be charging $2500+ for each commission. 

us coders in the jcink coding/skinning community truly undersell ourselves. some of us create these elaborate skins for free while the few of us who do charge are trying to stay competitive with one another and sticking with an unspoken “industry” standard amongst ourselves. we do this because we understand the community that we’re in. this is a hobby-centric demographic that’s flooded with clients that are currently in school or simply can’t afford real-life industry prices. i can’t speak for others, but i know i went into this with full knowledge that i wouldn’t be making a living off of this (not at my coding speed, at least).

all that being said, i really am sorry that you can’t afford it! if it helps, i’m more than willing to talk with future clients and give them approximate quotes on what they can expect with a commission. this way, they can take some time and save up for it if they really want it. other coders have also started selling full skins at lower price for those willing to “share” the design with 4-5 other people (aka skin isn’t fully exclusive to one buyer). some resource sites on jcink still have amazing coders who are providing free skins as well!
