MC’s Guidebook: Spells
Tumblr media
So spells are clearly a witches thing. Or also used in several cultures for healing etc. However, not many newer witches understand what a spell really is or how they really work. Heck, probably half of the community knows. I don’t think I am the only correct source, so please do look around and get more information.
Let’s get started.
———————–
What Is a Spell?
a form of words used as a magical charm or incantation; a state of enchantment caused by a magic spell; an ability to control or influence people as though one had magical power over them(google).
For our sake, a spell is simply used with words, ingredients, items and writing. Not all have to be involved though. And most of the time they aren’t used by everyone.
Do Spells Work?
For the most part? Yes. They do. However, sometimes they won’t and that’s okay too. It just means you need to do something different or figure out how it could have gone wrong.
What if a Spell Goes Wrong?
Try a spell reversal. A lot of people have resources on this, it’s a good thing to research especially before you start spell casting. A lot can be found here on tumblr.
What Can Be a Spell?
Anything. A spell for bringing love to you all the way to cursing someone who has wronged someone else. These all account as spells. All of them are okay to cast if that’s what you believe(just a reminder Love spells should be cast with permission of the other party and should not be used to alter their thoughts and feelings)
Should I Use Protection?
Ignore how I worded that. But yes. You should use any form of protection you can from tailsmans to casting a circle. Even a small chant will be better than nothing. Ask your deities and the spirits you work with to help protect you when casting your spell.
A Spell of Mine Didn’t Work… What Do I Do?
Take notes on what happened. Give it more time to fully manifest. Be Patient. If you feel it genuinely didn’t work you can try again, but do give it time. It might not have worked in the way you wanted it to.
If it doesn’t work the second time genuinely look into why. What were you doing and how could that have affected how the spell went? Was your intention clear? There are also many sources of what to do if you feel your spell didn’t work on here as well. Just look for them.
How Do Spells Work?
Most of the time it’s all about energy, intent, visualizing the outcome you want, and manifesting it. While you don’t inherently need tools or ingredients(some will say otherwise) they can be helpful to give your spell an extra oomph you need especially if you don’t have a lot of energy yourself.
What Do I Need For Spells?
A Book and a Pen. All to take notes and write out your spell. Again, you don’t need anything at all for spell casting. They may be helpful, but not needed at all.
Things you can use for a spell but aren’t necessary are:
Crystals
Jars
String/Ribbon
Sticks
Wands
Herbs
Candles
Incense
Candle Wax
Sachets/Bags
Essential Oils
Can I Write My Own Spells?
Abso-fucking-lutely. There’s nothing stopping you.
Can I Use Spells Posted By Others?
For the most part yes. The ones posted are usually meant to be used for others to help them. I typically use the spells posted to help me make my own though so it’s up to you.
How Do I Know My Spell Worked?
Did the outcome you want come? Then yes. If your unsure then go search out some answers. Tarot, or some other form of divination can be helpful. Especially if the spell is one of subtly and not supposed to be easily seen.
Are Spells and Rituals the Same?
In my own personal opinion? No. To others they may be the same, but for me they have different energies. A ritual is set in stone, copied almost every time you reach a certain point. A spell is something you can do on a whim. But again. My Own Opinion. Others may have something else to say about that. It’s good to look into it though.
How Do I Write My Own Spells?
Here’s a little template for you to help as I’m not the best at wording most of the time:
1. A title for your spell
2. The Intentions you have for the spell
3. The Date, time and Moon Phase(moon phase and time are optional. Date is helpful.)
4. The Items/Ingredients you need(if any at all)
5. Any words/chants you plan to use or used.
6. Instructions!
—————————-
Again, I’m not a full expert on this process. I probably never will be, but I hope this is slightly helpful for those who are trying to figure it out.
Sincerely,
The Sleepy Witch

Sigils With Triggers
Okay, so I got a couple messages from @misaimed-archer Asking about some sigil stuff, some of which being about ‘conditional sigils’ where they only cast when certain circumstances are met, like being in the presence of another sigil or a certain item. Which got me thinking, that’s a totally plausible idea, but how do you do that? So in my somewhat drunken state, I got thinking about it, and this is what I’ve come up with.
So you make two sigils, one for your intent, and a trigger sigil.
Tumblr media
So you got those two sigils now. But just because you have the two sigils doesn’t mean they’re going to work as intended. How do you make it so that the ‘trigger sigil’ triggers the intended sigil? How do you make it so that the intent sigil doesn’t work on its own anyways? Well I’ll tell you how!
Tumblr media
Putting the sigils inside eachother creates a connection or a link between the two sigils. They’ll act like magnets do when they get within a certain proximity of eachother. But instead of the reaction being attracting to eachother, it’ll activate the otherwise designated purpose of the ‘intent sigil’. So when these sigils come within a certain distance of eachother (which would be decided by the intent and general power of the creator/castor), it’ll trigger the intent!
If you’d like a couple examples on how it would work, click the link below.

Herbs and Others for Curses, Hexes, and Jinxes
coffee/dark cocoa - causes target bitterness
Chili Powder ~ for discord, bane, curses
Mustard Seed ~ the seed of strife and discord. Leave it at one’s doorstep, particularly black mustard seed. This seed sprinkled around the trunk of a fruit tree on the first evening of the full moon will cause the tree to bear no fruit.
Onion ~ can cause strife in an enemy’s life.
Poppy Seed ~ Causes couples to argue.
Sumac ~ for curses, hexing, bringing bad luck
Grapefruit - causes enemy sour start, but leaves a good ending
peppers - great for those spreading lies and talking general shit.  The hotter the pepper (vegetable or spice) the more intense the curse.
salt - to repel someone from reentering your life and home.
vinegar - to make someone eat their words or to stop running their mouth.
basil - for someone who owes you money.
mint - to cool someone’s anger or hatred toward you.
potato - for someone standing in your way.  carve someone’s name into the potato (or initials) and then cut it up/cook as normal.
having a wooden spoon you use ONLY for cursing magic within the kitchen.  You can inscribe/woodburn sigils and words to your liking. This is VERY useful.  Just be sure you ONLY use it for cursing and hexing for foods.
lemon/lime/any tart fruit - to stop someone’s slander, lies, and general cursing
Black pepper or ginger - add in baking mix if you want to cause the target anger.
Grated lemon - add in baking mix if you want to cause the target to be sour to others.
Black icing - colour correspondence for hexes and curses.
Stirring counter clockwise is good for undoing the actions or intent of the person you are cursing.
Stirring clockwise is for sealing/bringing to fruition.
You can do cursing/hexing in your kitchen.  Write someone’s name on a slip of paper (or take their picture) and put it in your pot and add vinegar, oils, needles/nails and herbs on the stove, intending your hex on that person.  Toss out like (preferably off your property) when done.
Most kitchen witches, myself included, keep glass jars and bottles around.  You can take a piece of paper with the person’s name or their picture, put in a jar with oil and herbs and shake it up each time you focus your hexing intent. Obviously the more shaking you do the more intense.  Do till you feel the hexing is done and they’ve stopped their shit.
When cursing/hexing food (or doing the pot trick like I mentioned above), you can also say (from Dorothy Morrison’s Utterly Wicked, pg. 66):
The magic that’s within this dish is meant for (name of target), as is my wish.
On others who may hear its call it shall not have any effect at all.
Pure delight is all they’ll feel as they fill their plates and eat this meal.
But (name of target) it will hit magically
As I will, so mote it be.

A Simple Shower Spell
For when you’re in pain (emotional or physical) or for when you just need a little something extra that day.
Tumblr media
This can be done any time of day, feel free to experiment with what you find most effective.
As you step into the shower, take a moment to stand under the water and feel it gently patting onto your skin.
“Flowing water from above,
Wash over me
With peace and love.
As you flow down the drain,
Take from me,
My ache and pain.”
Continue your shower as usual. Feel free to add (water safe!) Crystals around your shower as well to help amplify the spell.

Spell for Summoning a Domestic Familiar 🐾
*Long Post~Elaborate*
“A domestic familiar is an animal that stays with the Witch, provides magickal assistance and represents sacred nature. A Familiar is an animal you have a psychic connection with, or one that will help you with magick. A domestic familiar is sacred, a representation of the Goddess and God in living form. As a Witch, or as a Pagan, you have a heritage of a connection with nature, a spiritual connection with animals. Your pet is not necessarily a domestic Familiar, so don’t think that you can force your hamster into magickal service for you.”
“You can’t just go buy an animal and assume it will help make you a stronger, more powerful Witch. They can be rescued, found or borrowed (an occasional visit from your neighbor’s cat might have more meaning than you think), Domestic Familiars can be a pigeon you feed every day, the dog you’ve had since you were a child, or a cat that visits at dinner time. As long as the animal is willing, it can be trained as a domestic Familiar.Your domestic Familiar will find you, when you are ready. Don’t think that you can hide a dog from the landlord, a rat from your parents, or a cat from your children. If you don’t have an animal in your life who may become your domestic Familiar, you can call one. But remember, it’s their choice to reveal themselves. You’ll know instinctively.”
The following is a spell I have devised and will try myself. (Note, I have taken some of the spell wording/following chant from modern media but honestly if the words work and the intention is in your heart, then it’ll work, whether you heard it on a show, read it in a book, or are using someone else’s words, your intentions must be pure. Then all you have to do is believe.)
Tumblr media
What you will need:
Few pieces of paper & pen/pencil📃🖋(I say a few, for mistakes, we know it happens, lol)
Utensil to write in the dirt with (twig/opposite end of pen, etc. *writing with your finger is also acceptable👍🏼)
A mixture of the following herbs:
Sage: Healing, Protection, Wisdom, Wishes, Health, Immortality
Blessed Thistle: Spiritual Aid, Protection
Horehound: Mental Powers, Protection, Healing, Exorcism
Shepherd’s Purse: Spells & Rituals, Healing
Agrimony: Protection, Sleep
Yarrow: Divination, Psychic Powers, Courage, Love
Wormwood: Calling Spirits, Divination, Love, Protection, Psychic Powers
Dandelion: Calling spirits, Divination, Wishes
Spearmint Leaf: Augmenting Power, Healing Love, Luck, Strength, Sleep
Alfalfa Leaf: Magic (also, random, but used for: anti-hunger, as well as money/prosperity magic)
Bay Leaf: Visions, Dreams, Healing, Psychic Powers, Repels Negative Energy
White Willow Bark: Divination, Healing, Love, Protection
Kelp: Travel Protection (so your Familiar arrives safely😉)
Catnip: Friendship, Happiness, Joy, Love, Beauty (dont worry, if you dont want a cat, this is mainly for Friendship, Happiness and Joy, yes it can be used for cat magic but if you want a dog or a fish or reptile, this will still be good because you are trying to form a bond)
Sea Salt: Purification, Protection
Copy this sigil onto the paper📃 and into the dirt you stand on.🌱
Tumblr media
Sigil Meaning: “My Domestic Familiar Will Find Me”
🙌🏼Repeat the following chant as you imagine your familiar finding you. (If you have a specific animal preference, picture it. Imagine your Familiar finding you and what kind of bond you want to have. Be clear that this is for your Domestic Familiar…you don’t want just any spirit showing up.🤷‍♀️)
“Spirits of the forest*, I pronounce my intentions to thee. I ask my hearts familiar Come forth and seek me and equals we will be. Not master and servant but familiar to familiar, to share our knowledge, our spirit, and our traits. To guide one another in this journey. Come forth sweet familiar, and equals we will be. So mote it be.”
*You may change “Forest” to, “Earth, Air, Water and Fire”~ if you do not have an idea or preference of what kind of Familiar you want. For example if you would like a land animal (cat, dog, rabbit, etc) you can use Forest/Earth, if you’d like a bird-Air, Fish- Water, Dragon (more like a reptile/lizard, sorry, we dont get cool dragons like in Game of Thrones, lol)-Fire, and so on.
*if you want an insect I’d research the correct element that is associated, could be air, could be earth, etc.. Always, Always do your research! No one is perfect and sometimes people get things wrong, but researching does help when you’re unsure!
Tumblr media
Seal the spell by the corresponding action. For example, again if you have a *preference of animal, you will dispense the herbs in one of the following ways:
Earth- bury the elements🌱
Air- Throw them to the wind🌪
Water- Dispense in a body of water💧
Fire- Throw the elements into a fire**🕯
🔥**Always remember Fire Safety~especially since you’ll be outside, for this I’d say bring an ashtray to burn the paper safely and once the flame is completely out and the paper is ash *do not burn your fingers*, throw them to the wind**🔥
*If no preference of animal, choose the way that speaks to you most and dispense the herbs in that way.
☆Also, please be reasonable about what you ask, as well as reasonable about what you can keep in your home. I’m sorry but I can’t help you explain to your parent why you need a comodo dragon as your familiar…and also, sorry but, you will not have a unicorn, talking animal that tells jokes, or a hippogryph showing up, so again, keep it reasonable.😉
Once the spell is complete, let the spirits work, let the spell do its work~ keep an open heart and mind, understand your Familiar will not just appear instantaneously, give it time, understand there is an instinctual process and response and your Familiar will come. Something inside will tell you this is them.
🌟Remember when you do find your Familiar/your Familiar finds you, this is your equal, treat them as such, Never harm your Familiar. Do not force your Familiar to engage in magic with you, they know what they need and sometimes what you need. They will participate at will, but when they do you will know why they are you Familiar, you can just feel it in your heart.🌟
Listen, observe, Pay Attention to them. And your bond will be incomparable.💞
Tumblr media
BLESSED BE, BELOVEDS. I WISH YOU ALL THE SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN YOUR JOURNEY TO FINDING YOUR FAMILIAR! PLEASE SHARE YOUR STORIES AS WELL! I’D LOVE TO HEAR THEM! 💐

stuff the witches were talking about i didn’t fully understand
Here I am, trying to explain some things I didn’t really understand myself before. Hope this will come helpful.
THE LAW OF ATTRACTION
Now that I looked into it, i understand it at least a bit. I’ll try to explain it to you.
The Law of Attraction is the ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on. The Law of Attraction is the thing, that materializes our thoughts into reality. All thoughts turn into things eventually. Etc. If you focus on the negativity, and bad things you will keep on feeling sad. But if you focus on the good parts of the life, become ambitious of what you want to achieve, and you believe in yourself, at the end, you can do it. It is like witchcraft- witchcraft is basically a big law of attraction. See, you light a candle, etc. red for love, with the intention of attracting love into your life. If you write a spell or if you just say your intention with the most powerful words you can find, you are great to go. It is basically speaking or writing down your intentions, being clear with them and they are send into the universe like a bunch of vibrations. Yet somehow, they come back and they manifest, so you reacieve the love you were looking for! Not a lot of people understand it fully, but, if it works, there is no need to really bother.
so, you basically attract whatever you think about.
MANIFESTING
if you are new to withcraft, you might be already confused. So here I am again, trying to explain it all to you.
Manifestation is basically the result of the Law of attraction. Etc. You send out vibrations with the intention “i attract money and wealth” and manifesting is basically you getting what you let out, so you recieve more money.
Manifestation works alongside the Law of Attraction, a universal rule which is that thoughts can become things.(as i explained above).
You have done a spell, and it doesn’t work. Remember the law of attraction? You have used that just now to make the spell. And you are using it maybe even right now, unconciously. It works like this- if you keep on worrying about your magic, doubting the spell and thinking that it won’t work, it won’t. Try focusing on what you love and on what makes you feel good and happy and alive. Soon you’ll be attracting more of THAT. Manifestation is a magickal way of getting what you want, and the easiest and most powerful way to do that is to feel it. You can also use visualization to aid in manifesting. What I also do, is that i forget. I just forget when I did a spell and let it work for itself. The only thing i tell myslef when i think about it is “It is going to work, my magick works.”
A quick spell to get rid of anything what is blocking you away from manifesting:
You will need a piece of paper, pen, a candle (or just matches).
Center yourself. Take a few deep breaths and focus on what you are doing right now. You can  burn some herbs or an incense to get rid of unwanted energies that are trying to interrupt your spell. Ground yourself by keeping your fett on the floor, imagining roots coming into the ground from you.
The first step to manifesting is to let go. So think of what’s holding you back from what you want. Whether it’s an unhealthy relationship, self-doubt, or money troubles, focus on what it is that you want to release. Write down what you want to let go of at the top of a piece of paper, focusing the energy and feelings you have as you write. Be intentional. You can write something like “I am done living in a place of fear” or “I release any self-doubt I may have” or “I am done living from a place of scarcity.” Again, this should feel right to you.
Now, burn it. Either put it in a fireproof bowl, fireplace or burn it by a candle, imagine the fire sending your intentions to the universe. Do it as many times as you like, until you know that it works and you have no doubt. Now ground yourself again.
Oof. This was hella long. I hope you understood at least a bit.
WHAT ARE ALL OF THOSE HERBS, CRYSTALS AND CANDLES FOR?
If you are a beginner witch, you might be wondering: Do I need all of this? Mugwort for this and that, incense, candles and a lots of shiny crystals? Why do all of the witches use these? What are they good for?
First, no, you don’t need any of these. All you need is yourself and a clear intention to work your magic. A lot of witches burn candles while doing spells. Why? Because candle magic is really simple, all you need is a candle and matches.  “ Candle magick is a kind of alchemy, where all elements are represented — fire of the flame, air to feed it, melted wax for water, and solid wax for earth” so the candles empower your intention. You can also choose a colour of the wax, essential oil, herbs or carve a sigil into them. Candle magic is really great way to start.
All of those herbs, witchy tools, colorful candles are here to only strenghten your intention with their own energy. When you look at a rose, you might start thinking about romance, love, peace… these are the magickal properties of a rose. See, every item gives off an energy. You can keep your magic as simple as with only yourself and your intention, or you can add in various crystals or herbs only to strenghten it, But why herbs? How do you use them while just saying out your intention? You can burn them (pls be careful when doing so) if you are doing a spell for focus or memory, try burning some rosemary in a fireproof bowl, or lighting a rosemary incense. You can also add crystals around yourself while casting a spell to empower it with their energy. So if you are casting a money spell, try surrounding yourself with citrine, aventurine, anything golden, tigers eye… or of course, just some programmed clear quartz will do.
Both of crystals and herbs can be incorporated in witchbottles also. And jars are simply for storing these herbs.
If you are a beginner witch, there is no need to go off and buy tons of crystals like i did and go broke (like i did). A clear quartz is a substitute crystal for any you would need. As well as is rosemary for any other herb/plant, and aswell as is the color white for any other color of candles. And of course, you can find tons of herbs and spices in your own kitchen cabinet already. Cinnamon, nutmeg, thyme, rosemary, basil… these might already be in there.
AS ABOVE, SO BELOW
you might have seen this quote or rather a saying somewhere before. I did a longer research on it, there is not much of  a content out there.
(I will update this in a while, pls wait)
WHAT THE HECK IS BINDING MAGIC?
if i had to tell you right now, i wouldn’t know myself. Here i am to research it and give you some information!
A magical binding is simply a spell or working that restrains someone , preventing them from doing something. It is often used to keep the individual from causing harm to themselves or others. It is usually done in a positive way of preventing the person from doing harm themselves or the others. It’s like stopping them from doing bad stuff.
haha i think this is enough, you got it, right?
WICCA, WITCHCRAFT AND PAGANISM
final question. Which is which? what am i?
WICCA
is a religion, a belief. All wiccans are pagan, and they are also witches (basically pagan witches). They practice magick and witchcraft alongside with believing in divine energies. They follow the moon phases, that each moon phase has a different magical meaning. They celebrate 8 holidays- sabbaths, or either called pagan holidays. And since it is a religion, wiccans believe in a God and a Goddess, or multiple deities which is called eclectic wicca.
WITCHCRAFT
a witch is someone who works with herbs, potions, casts spells, crystals, natural healing… someone who does energy workings. Witches can be Muslim, Christian, whatever religion they choose to believe in, or they don’t have to be religious at all.
PAGANISM
is a wide  variety of beliefs, in which is the nature worshipped. Pagans follow religious guidelines drawn out by nature- seasons, moon phases, weather… There are maaaany gods and Goddesses, they usually represent a part of nature or a celestial body. They can choose to wroship Celtic, Greek, Hindu, Chinese, Egyptian deities and many more. Pagans believe that we should not be superior to nature, she is the one who created us afterall. It’s like an umbrella of religions, under which are Hinduists, Wiccans, Shamanists…
IN CONCLUSION
All wiccans are pagan, but not all pagans are wiccan.
All wiccans are witches, but not all witches are wiccan.
boom. Period.
I hope you understand it all now, if you notice any mistakes, feel free to correct me.
