Avundsjukans Geografi / The Geography of Jealousy 2021 photographic series
The photographs are cut out of google street view’s image archive from Mexico, Brazil, Japan, France and USA (2008-2011).
An algorithm has been trained to identify what is a face and then anonymize it by smearing out the facial features. What is left is an impenetrable surface, on which I project both beauty and mystique. I use my jealousy as a compass when I navigate the virtual globe. I am led by the childish dream of being somebody else, somewhere else.

Installation view of Hibiskusemojin / The Hibiscus Emoji 60" 2022
Havet, Konstfack
Projection on screen 2 x 3 m inside site specifically built cinema ca 20 m² with soft floor covered in rag rugs. In the essay film The Hibiscus Emoji I search for answers to personal and existential questions of the inner image worlds I have divided into four chapters: the dream image, the memory image, the photographical image and the the mirror image. I scan sources such as local facebook groups from the Mexico City-suburb Nezahualcoyotl and jungian dream interpretation forums on reddit. I film close, or in darkness, to make the image abstract as it breaks against the limit of the compact camera. What I most want to film only shows itself inside the head.

News From Home Karin Sonnsjö Lönegren & Rute Duarte 2022 Collection of video letters
News From Home is a collaboratorive film project together with the Portuguese artist Rute Duarte, and consists of a collection of video letters sent between Stockholm and Porto. The correspondence through video letters go on between Mars and May. We confess to each other and try to remember and understand the time in Italy together. Some letters are written in Italian to not forget the language. To write in the ’third language’ means there is a delay, and I am interested in the distance between thought and formulation. I write in the first letter:
”I think I miss the layer of confusion that covered me in Italy. It was a kind of freedom to swim around in the language that I could not really understand. Here everything is real, literal instead of interpreted.”

Via del Borgo

Photographic series I live in Bologna for six months and rent an apartment with a kitchen window that looks out over the street Via del Borgo. There I stand, photographing strangers who pass by. From my position up in the apartment I am hidden. When the sun shines in the window becomes a one-way-mirror, you can see out but not in. I think of the photographs as paparazzi images, where the object is unknown and the particular less important than the repetitive. Body movements echo through the people who are photographs, unconsciously they participate in a collective choreography.
