i finished reading BIG SWISS BY JEN BEAGIN this week! such a sad and fun book.

I really liked how it talked about sex, love and trauma, every character and their story felt believable and brutally honest.

I dont think ill ever get tired of "weird queer woman acts in weird ways" plot lines.

I think alot of modern "female rage girl unhinged" books fall into the manic pixie dream girl trope where the main character is weird and mentally ill but in a quirky and fun way but Big swiss showed some balance towards Gretas view on her life and the people around her.

Hearing Flavia talk about her in therapy and Om becoming a more helpful and sympathetic character towards the end (the therapy sessions) felt so refreshing, like a reality check to all the weird things greta thinks and does.

Sabine, gretas weird roommate, was my favorite character. I thought she was going to be the stereotypical "older tough love female friend/stand in mean mom" but finding out more about her, that she went to rehab and seeing her do small things like take care of Greta and Piñon really did make her feel real and like a human with thoughts feelings and trauma.

overall i think the book did an amazing job writing weird quirky characters who all feel like real people and it captured all the awkward terror that comes with love and sex in general.

palo alto was a cool movie too bad i was hyper aware that james franco, a teacher who creeps on his students, was playing a teacher who creeps on his students. eugh
