“Music can change the world because it can change people”
- Bono
Music not only benefits individuals, but also transforms the world for the better. Music brings people’s souls together and the fandoms are created. Fandom is the gathering of people who have similar music tastes and being fans of a particular artist or band. That being the case, a large group of people with the same passion and dedication can contribute to better societal changes. For many times, we can frequently see pop fandoms organized those useful projects with significant impacts. There are a wide range of projects with a variety of contributions towards social, political, and environmental problems.
Here are some examples of wonderful projects by different fandoms
1. BTS ARMY raised $1 million for Black Lives Matter
After BTS, a Korean boy band, expressed their support towards Black Lives Matter on Twitter and made a 1$ million donation. The BTS fans began trending #.MatchAMillion led by One In an ARMY organization in order to encourage the fans around the world to donate and express the support for BLM. In less than a day, thousands of fans raised over $1 million. This shows a great power of fandom in a positive way.

2. T-pop and K-pop fandoms supported tuk-tuk drivers
After the transit systems’ response in shutting down their services during pro-democracy protests, many fandoms are moving to support local tuk-tuk drivers by placing birthday ads on a tuk-tuk instead. In the last several years, Thai fans often bought billboards and placed ads on skytrains to the eyes of the public. However, time passed and things changed. By putting the ads on tuk-tuk costs considerably less than before. Moreover, this action can help local drivers who have been struggling with the economic downturn. The power of these fandoms can substantially contribute to the economic recovering of people within the community.
