So I get WHY they COULDN'T have Alia as in the book....
A toddler whose consciousness had been awakened in the womb as a Reverend Mother and a die-hard Fremen who supported her brother wholeheartedly...
But I wish we had.
I'll admit I was disappointed that it was Paul who killed the Baron. The whole scene of Alia chatting with the Emperor then mocking the Reverend Mother is fantastic.

My sister right after watching Dune 2: So are they (Paul, Chani, Irulan) in a polyamorous relationship?
Me: No, Paul never touches Irulan. His heart is with Chani.
My sister:..cuz I could never support that.
Me: Again, Paul only marries Irulan by name, but he has kids with Chani. There is this really great line at the end of the book that Jessica says to Chani : Irulan will never know the touch of the man she's married, but us "history will call us wives".
Also Me: But that's in the book.

Final Trailer: Futures: To Prevent or Not to Prevent?
Remember back in the first movie, the jihad that Paul saw and feared?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's coming. I see a holy war spreading across the universe like unquenchable fire. A warrior religion that waves the Atreides banner in my father's name....Fanatical legions worshiping at the shrine of my father's skull. A war in my name!
That future is a dark shadow in Paul's mind, something that he wants to avoid so badly. It haunts him, the people that could die because of him--for him. The questions is can he avoid the jihad? Can he prevent the deaths of millions as he grows in power in Arrakis?
I'm not going to spoil anything, but I will put a question to you.
If you can see the future, will anything you do prevent it... or is what you see a possible future that may or may not happen?
That is the question that Paul will deal with in Dune 2.
He struggles with the shadow of the jihad. Chani sees it too. And she has an answer for his tears.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Usual, my strength, do you give moisture to the dead? To whose dead?" "To ones not yet dead," he said. "Let them have their time of life," she said.
Chani, in the book, though "elf-like" and tiny, is Paul's rock and faithful partner. She trusts him when others don't. She sees him as others can't. She loves him as others can't. She was never a fanatic like Stilgar, or schemer like Jessica. She just was Chani. She lived in the moment when Paul couldn't and often brought him back into the moment so he should.
Tumblr media
Paul in Dune 2 is going to see more dreams and feel the weight of the future.
I am curious as to how the movie will address this issue of the future as big as the whole universe. The question I put forth is there, but how will Paul answer it?
I could put more here about how the first movie deal with this question, but I will come back later and address it. I want to see Dune 2 first. :)
(by the way, I'm not a philosopher or any kind of great thinker. I just like to analyze movies and I have a great love for Dune.)

Final Trailer: Fremen Life
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before going into this movie, I wonder how much time will pass between Dune 1 and 2. Minutes? Days? Months? Years?
My final thought is this: the audience, like Paul, need to see the Fremen with new eyes so I think we're going to start off immediately after the 1st movie. Right away, we get water rings, Harah, and more. We've only gotten a taste of their ways in the desert, their lifestyle on Arrakis.
This movie, I hope, will show us their culture, their social interactions, (their orgies?), and most importantly, the day-to-day life. What was it like to live like a Fremen? The normal life in a sietch is talked about quite a lot in the second half of the book. I want to know what Denis Villanueve has created on Arrakis.
Tumblr media
Let me take a moment to fantasize about what I want to see:
+Riding the sandworms!! Stilgar looks like he's ready to hook a Maker.
Tumblr media
+ Changing of the water: I really want this scene to be beautiful because it means so much to the Fremen on a spiritual level.
Tumblr media
+Everyday life as a Fremen: it's not epic or wondrous, but I want to take a peek into the curtain of seitch life.

Dune 2: The Emperor is not Pleased
Tumblr media
"Deal with this prophet. Send assassins."
Prophecy and government don't mix because some day someone is going to come along and prophecy something that the government doesn't like, like "Your reign is going to end soon."
Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV doesn't like this new young prophet in the middle of the desert. He's speaking against him or at least it's being implied it's against him.
The assassins? His Sardaukar from the first movie, the best killers in the galaxy. The next line in the trailer is from Princess Irulan (played by Florence Pugh) saying "Feyd-Rautha? He's psychotic."
Honey, please. Feyd is no assassin. He's too showy and egotistical. A killer, yes, assassin, no.
Definitely Sardaukar.

Dune 2 Final Trailer: Feyd-Rautha
The final trailer has been out for 2 months and the movie is coming out in a week. I'm late. I know.
Let's talk skinhead Feyd-Rautha.
Tumblr media
We don't get much, but that's on purpose. He's clearly the antagonist to Paul in this movie as the Baron is barely shown. Feyd is not like his uncle in a whole lot of ways.
The new evil emerges into the light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Feyd-Rautha? He's psychotic."
The boy looks dangerous no doubt about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm gonna get chills watching the gladiator scene, I know it. He looks absolutely murderous.
Tumblr media
Again no dialogue from Feyd on purpose! He's my 2nd character I'm looking forward to.
Anya's my number 1. She's the surprise filling to this Dune donut.

Dune 2 Trailer: Chani the Beloved
Tumblr media
I did like Zendaya as Chani in Part 1, but there wasn't enough of Chani for me to have a full opinion of the performance. I liked the little I saw so I hope for Part 2 she wows me. The thing about Chani is she was a Fremen and a fighter but she was also a wife and mother. She had a compassionate side that she shared with Paul throughout the book.
She was his crutch as he gained visions and he her rock as things changed a lot for the Fremen. Their relationship was beautiful in the book built on trust by baring their souls to one another and loving each other. I hope to see that on the screen. So far this trailer does not disappoint.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was her "Usul" and she was his "Sihaya", but I don't think they'll use their nicknames in the film. It'll just confuse people with Paul adopting the name "Maud'Dib".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Chani, do you believe me?"
This scene, I think, is to throw the audience off. It looks like she doesn't believe him because she doesn't answer. But she always did believe him. She stood by him even when they barely knew each other.
"What do you see?" he demanded. "I see us giving love to each other in a time of quiet between storms. It's what we were meant to do." The drug had him again and he thought: So many times you've given me comfort and forgetfulness.
Tumblr media
This shot I think is just before the end of the film when the Fremen take over the capital. The bloodstained armor is proof, I think. Notice the blue armband on Chani? She looks upset and angry, but it's for a reason. But Paul will be there to comfort her.

Dune 2 Trailer: Chani the Fighter
We got a lot of Chani and Paul together in this trailer so there's a lot to analyze here. So this is part 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are several scenes of them in stillsuits fighting together. They have a "I'll protect you, Chani!" moment as he pushes her to the ground to avoid the blast. He opens up to Chani about his family's past with the Harkonnen. She guides him in the Fremen way in the desert. But Paul can handle himself against 2 Harkonnen soldiers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is their 'getting to know you' phase of the movie. They've just met and are working together for the cause of survival.
She becomes his Fremen woman and fights alongside him in his cause for Arrakis' freedom from Harkonnen control. Though small she is formidable, even able to fight men on-on-one.
"I dispatched one who came to challenge you in single combat, Usul." "You killed him?" "Yes...." "But he came to challenge me!" "You trained me yourself in the weirding way, Usul." "Certainly! But you shouldn't-" "I was born in the desert, Usul. I know how to use a crysknife." He suppressed his anger, tried to talk reasonably. "This may all be true, Chani, but-" "I am no longer a child hunting scorpions in the sietch by the light of a handglobe, Usul. I do not play games."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the same motion Paul used to fight in his vision in the first movie. He may have been seeing Chani fight for him in this battle for the capital.
Also a sidenote, the blue hairband that she wore in the first trailer? I am more and more convinced it's a sign of a wedded woman, more specifically Paul's woman. She wears the same color of blue armband in the first shot of this battle. This would be a marker for other Fremen to recognize her in battle.
Tumblr media
I don't know is happening for Paul to be so worried for Chani, but they've clearly have an established relationship here. His blue eyes are a huge hint. And that leads me to Part 2: Chani the Beloved.

Clarification on Stilgar!
So I'm sorry, I was wrong about Stilgar's line in the Dune 2 trailer 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought he said, "there are sides". So I apologize for mishearing him and I wanted to make the record straight. It still backs my take on him. Instead of Stilgar unable to choose Paul (as a leader, a prophet, etc), it looks like Stilgar is beginning to recognize signs of Paul as a leader and Maud'Dib.

Dune 2 Trailer: War is Coming
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
More awesome shots of the attacks on the seitches on Arrakis. The giant bug-looking ship in the first shot is very creative.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am going to guess they are burning the bodies of the Atreides soldiers from the first movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Harkonnen soldiers on Geidi Prime. Notice how difference they are from the Sardaukar from the first film. Less blood, less chanting, but there are a lot of them and they're moving back to Arrakis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just a few shots of the action from the trailer. The Fremen will fight back against the Harkonnen soldiers. I suspect skirmishes to show off the power and might of the Fremen. They are a desert people with lots of potential for war.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A storm is coming from the desert to the capital and with it, war.
"A great grandmother of a storm is coming," Stilgar said. "Can you not feel it, Maud'Dib?"
