Hypothetical and imaginary Homeland (Legend of Drizzt) musical thoughts because I'm a theatre kid having fun.
Gonna start by just like, listing the vocal ranges of the cast and what I think they'd sound like, then move on to notes about what they'd sing specifically. And like general stuff about the show.
Drizzt - tenor, obviously, he's the protagonist. Voice definitely gets deeper as he ages but he needs to have that "hopeful and youthful tenor who sings a long ass ballad that annoying theatre boys hear and immediately put in their book therefore rendering the song useless in auditions due to overexposure" vibe
Malice - Alto... beautiful and chilling alto voice.
Zaknafein - baritone or bass. Probably the only baritone or bass in the entire cast.
Briza - alto, like her mom. I like the idea of each or Drizzt's sisters representing a different fem voice vocal range. I think she's probably a lower alto than Malice is.
Vierna - that is a mezzo-soprano if I have ever heard one. I think she would probably have very good range too.
Maya - soprano. But not a light and airy silly cutesy soprano. She makes it freaky and scary. Maybe some high notes that sound erratic and unhinged.
Dinin - bro is a tenor but like, a lower tenor I think. Not that it matters because I don't picture him singing a lot, not because he doesn't have story presence but because his moments don't seem like the sorts you'd write a song about.
Rizzen - also a tenor. I don't think he sings much at all, considering he doesn't have much story presence. Maybe he harmonizes with the others sometimes.
Masoj - THE MOST INFURIATINGLY TALENTED TENOR YOU WILL EVER HEAR. Picture the toxic tenor boyfriend from your senior year musical cast and make him 100x more... that. Also I think he sings in falsetto sometimes. I'd say he's the highest tenor in the show.
Alton - Once again a tenor. Lower than Masoj though. So many tenors in this show man. The brown haired blue eyed 5'10" Santa Fe singing somehow straight theatre boy you knew in high school is gonna be real happy about this.
Not gonna bother with everyone else like the other Matrons and the random ass guys from the Academy and shit. They probably don't sing anyway.
Other notes!!!
I feel like Vierna would sing a short, 1-2 minute song during the time she's raising Drizzt. Definitely a slow song where she hits some gorgeous high notes.
Malice has a crazy duet with Zak where they both (separately) think about Drizzt's future and they do that thing where they each sing different lyrics at the same time. Occasionally though one of them will stop so the other one can sing a dramatic note.
There's definitely a song for the part where Zak is teaching Drizzt to fight. It's not really a duet, as Drizzt is for the most part just reacting (not singing.) It has a reprise when they fight for real near the end of the book, and it's heart wrenching and terrible. That one's a duet where Drizzt sings.
I don't know it Briza would get a solo (she would in a theoretical Exile musical though...) but she definitely has a few verses here and there in songs where she's present.
Maya is definitely not getting a solo sorry girl you have minimal story presence.
That being said, Drizzt's sisters definitely harmonize whenever they're in the same song lmao
Alton and Masoj have a duet. They're both tenors but Alton takes the lower part when/if they harmonize. Actually scratch "a duet" I feel like they have multiple, and maybe a song with Drizzt there as well.
In addition I think Alton has a solo. It's sad and melancholy with a light voice for the first 45 seconds or so, then it quickly turns angry and he's very loud and spit-singing like Jonathan Groff.
Drizzt sings too many ballads and it extends the runtime by a combined 15 minutes and you could probably afford to cut some of them but no. They won't because he's special boy.
The opening number is definitely the opening scene with the siege and shit. Malice probably belts while giving birth. Musicals are weird like that. She's singing real loudly while the sisters are harmonizing in the background.
Guehwyvar is a large wire puppet covered in cloth and operated by a dude in black, like in the Phantom Blood musical.
That's it, Exile musical imaginary thoughts coming very soon but for now consider: Jarlaxle as a baritone with a crazy falsetto...
