Like most of you I watched Star Trek Beyond and found a piece of calligraphy. I’ve done my best to translate it and come up with “Accept this shrine of this...”. I couldn’t find a translation of the word Oshisa and found Oshi - shrine and sa - Male. Though male shrine would have been written sa-oshi. Nevertheless I was pleased to find Golic making its way into cannon and congratulate O’Brittuhn. What do you think it says?

My opinion of cloning is that it is necessary at this time to restore as much plant cover and food-production as soon as possible. Greater diversity from starting by seed can come after this rapid-expansion phase.

What are your thought on propagating confers via hardwood cuttings?

I once saw a post by a gardener who did a lot of reforestation on a large acreage using hardwood cuttings of conifers: the process was basically taking hundreds of semi-hardwood cuttings and sealing them in tub containing a sterile potting medium for six months or more.

Apparently this was very successful.

I have planted a number of larger hardwood cuttings from conifers directly out in the garden: I tend to take a lot because the failure rate is quite high.

Cuttings are convenient in some respects, but when I can, I plant seeds preferentially: there is some safety in genetic diversity between plants. I have a number of tutorials for collection and planting conifer seed archived.

Cloning happens in nature as well though, so it definitely has a place. Hardwood cuttings are difficult, but not impossible to accomplish. Get yourself some rooting hormone and give it a go.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I was traveling last weekend.

Unfortunately none of the Vulcan scripts are canon but were all fan-made. Many scripts exist on Earth, and though the number of alphabets and writing systems on Vulcan was consolidated during the time of the Awakening  there could well be more than just the Gol and Jelayl scripts I have learned.

Here is the phrase written phonetically in Jelayl and Golic scripts. It's a beautiful piece though and if you like it I would encourage you to keep it.

Could you give me some references on how a vulcan deals with emotions, self reflection and instincts they experience? And how do their meditation and thought regulating techniques work? I will put some thought to this. The next week will be busy for me. Inner dialogue is a powerful means to regulate our own experience, and I expect most Vulcans would be educated in using inner dialogue to the best advantage to frame an experience in a way that is useful to them. More to come.
