It was one of those rare days where New York didn’t feel like it was trying to crush him. No classes, no assignments hanging over his head like a storm cloud—just blue skies, the smell of hot dogs and spring in the air, and Central Park stretching out in front of him. Kai walked with an easy rhythm, hoodie sleeves pushed up to his elbows, a slight grin tugging at his lips as he glanced over at his friend.

"Man, I needed this. Columbia’s been kicking my ass lately. Midterms, professors acting like their class is the only one that matters... I was one group project away from snapping." @ggstarterblog

Kai looked at Max and chuckled. "I'm honestly good with doing whatever, you know?" He asked. "I'm not too picky, so long as I don't have to do any school work."

Max stepped out into the lively streets of Soho, his sneakers tapping lightly against the pavement as he soaked in the warmth of the April sun. “This weather is perfect,” he said, squinting up at the clear blue sky and turned his attention to his friend. Kai looked at Sterling and smiled at him and chuckled. "It is, it's nice to be out and just not have a care in the world right now too, you know?"

The weather was finally cooperating—no more chilly winds or gray skies, just sunshine, a soft breeze, and that perfect in-between temperature that made you forget what season it actually was. Sterling leaned back against the checkered picnic blanket, sunglasses perched on his nose, one hand nursing an iced coffee while the other lazily plucked grass from the ground.

“Tell me this isn’t peak New York,” he said, glancing over at his friend with a grin. “Sitting in Central Park, pretending like we don’t have a million other things we should be doing.”

Nearby, a golden retriever bounded after a frisbee, kids screamed over a game of tag, and a saxophone player was setting up on a bench not too far away. Sterling let out a content sigh, tipping his head back to soak up the sun. “Honestly? I could stay here all day.” @ggstarterblog

Kai nodded. "I guess I get that." He said. "I know Jasper could probably understand it more than I could though."

"It really is, but when you have a mother like I got, it's better to keep any and all eyes on her."

"Next to nothing to be honest." Kai looked at Sterling. "I have never once trusted her, I don't think anyone should."

"I know, but how much does Gossip Girl really know about all of us?" He asked Kai.

"Yeah that's exactly how it works. I don't know why people don't ignore her, well I do, it's easier said than done but still." Kai looked at Sterling. "It is pathetic, but you can't change human nature, you know?"

"So let me get this straight, I'm supposed to believe whatever this Gossip Girl person says?" He asked and looked at the person who had explained the premise of Gossip Girl to him. "Isn't that kind of pathetic?" @ggstarterblog

"You're welcome, Jackie." He smiled at her. "Anything is better than being inside all day."

"I guess that's fair." Kai laughed. "But if you want something else, feel free to order something else."

"I'm in college, I'm used to cheap and crappy drinks, that's how."

"Yeah that is very true, but it's fucking annoying that it's happening."

"People are honestly just looking for a scapegoat, don't take it personal."

"Yeah I get that, I mean, I do now, but if you asked me like a year or two ago, I would have been crazy enough to tell you that Mississippi was still my home."

"Oh wow, that's very ambitious, no wonder you've been busy," Jenny says with a nod and polite smile. " What brings me back to Manhattan? My plan was always to come back, I just didn't know when" She explained," I can curse it all I want, but Manhattan is home, you know?"

"Yeah that is very true." Kai looked at Luna. "It could always be worse though, right? Or is that just the delusion talking?"

"Don't think too much about it, Kai. People just suck and want someone to blame for whatever is going wrong in their day."

"I don't know what the fuck is in the air but I've had several people get mad at me for something I can't control and it's just not fun." @ggstarterblog

"They're...going." Kai answered with a laugh and looked at her. "I'm studying to be a biochemist so it's a lot of science and math." He said. "That's pretty cool though, what brings you back to Manhattan?"

"Oh, alright, well in that case, how are your studies going? and what are you studying?" she wondered curiously."I'm great, been traveling the world for a year, can't exactly complain about that can I? " she chuckled a little bit.

"I'm in college, I'm used to cheap and crappy drinks, that's how."

"Oh my God that is so strong." Sarah made a face and put her drink down. "How do you drink that?" She laughed. @ggstarterblog

Kai had just gotten out of his last class for the day when he nearly ran into Jenny and chuckled. "I...I honestly don't know. I try to just focus on my college studies and that's it." He admitted. "How are you doing though, Jenny? Welcome back, by the way."

Jenny adjusted the straps of her well-worn backpack and took a deep breath as she stepped out into the crisp New York air. The buzz of taxi horns and chatter felt both overwhelming and comforting, like stepping into a song she used to know by heart. A faint smile tugged at her lips—it was strange how familiar it all still felt.

She turned, scanning the crowd for the rideshare she had booked, but instead, her gaze landed on a face she recognized. Her heart skipped, and she froze for a moment before she broke into a soft laugh. “Well, look who it is. I wasn’t expecting to run into you here of all places.”

The breeze caught her hair as she tilted her head, curiosity lighting up her expression. “So, what’s the story? Still the same old New York—or have I missed something big?”
