Kindergarten classmate to Cary at pick up: “Kai wants to marry me. But I don’t want to. I wanna marry him” (points elsewhere) .

Moments later, wielding plastic knife: “Hold still, Kai’s daddy, I’m going to cut your pee-pee off.”

Cary: “Ummm...uh?”

Me: “Ok Kai, maybe find someone else.”

If you’re not taking advantage of the free coloring/body paint section for kids in the drug or grocery store while Mom shops, you’re missing out. (Ie. the makeup samples)

A message was sent to mommy from my school today after a crayon incident, but really, WHO WORE IT BETTER??!?!

If you told us a year ago that our first friends would be the lovely gentlemen at the bicycle parking garage, we wouldn’t have believed you. If you told me that they would learn our names, give us treats, teach us Japanese and make us feel like it’s safe to try and make fools out of ourselves, that they would help dress my son for school - straightening his hat and doing his missing jacket button as we scurry out of the lot with only a minute to spare - we may not have believed you. But if you asked us only a few weeks after coming to Japan last year if something like a simple smile, an extra moment of patience, or any gesture of friendliness went a long way so far, we would have thought of these guys. 

This crew of ojisans makes every morning scramble and dreary afternoon return so much sweeter. Hoping we can pay it forward someday!
