In a business, someone always has to do some sort of work. Sometimes that person is you and sometimes that person is someone else and sometimes it's you and a lot of people working together.
In my father's poultry farm, there are a lot of people helping him do work. A couple of people help him out with taking care of the chickens, they feed them and provide them with water. And when the time comes for the harvest, a bunch of other people help him round up the chickens to put them in cages. I think that he really needs all this help because there are a lot of chickens in the farm. Like if you placed all the chickens in an empty field, I bet you would only see chickens for miles and miles into the horizon.
Anyways, there was this one time wherein the helpers forgot to watch the dog or tie them to a post or something and the dogs got into the 'actual' poultry farm (like the pens where the chickens are kept) and they started a mass murder of chickens. That was, well, an eye-opening experience (especially for some chickens that got their eyeballs crushed by the sheer pressure of dog teeth) and I bet they all learned that they should make sure that the dogs do not get into the farm.
But really, they are all really nice people and it would be near impossible to get any work done without them. With the sheer number of chickens that have to be taken care of, a one-man army is not enough for the job. Not only do they help my dad with the chickens, they also do some small paperwork and record the daily happenings of the poultry farm so that my dad's workload is lessened. And so, yeah, there we have it. They help.

An Uphill Battle
By: Nina Isabelle Alolod
It’s another hectic day in The Cool Kidz Company. There are people screaming and papers scattered everywhere. In this chaotic wasteland, it’s up to newly hired intern Yoda D. Pugg to bring back the peace (not that there was ever peace in the company but it was time to change that). He begins with a swig of his coffee. It is black and it is as bitter as he feels about his career choice.
He approaches Chief Operating Officer Sanjee Dioso first. She is screaming at her secretary Kiana Fuentes for writing her notes illegibly which caused a huge mix-up with an important shareholder meeting. Yoda places a hand on Sanjee. When she looks down at him with her glaring eyes, he tells her that the aforementioned meeting is already rescheduled. Sanjee begrudgingly thanks him and reprimands Kiana once more about her handwriting. Kiana sasses back about being overworked and a vein in Sanjee’s head almost erupts. It takes another fifteen minutes to calm the COO down and by then, the twins had already begun dancing.
It was a silly thing when it first started—the twins declared that energizers should be played every morning to “liven up the workspace” as Kiesha said. Unfortunately but not surprisingly, employees became tired after dancing to the same strenuous K-pop dance routine every day. Angelica Tantay, once famous for winning Employee of the Month award consecutively, had to resign after breaking her ankle during a tricky dance move. Needless to say, Yoda was working very hard every day to stop the twins from dancing lest more accidents occur.
It took some time but Yoda managed to confiscate the Bluetooth speakers. The twins went back to their work stations to draw conceptual designs for the company’s tabletop game. He then went on to regulate other workers as he usually did.
By the end of the day, his throat was hoarse and his feet were sore. When he arrived at his home, he turned the air-conditioning on and slid under the blankets of his bed. His work was an uphill battle and his favorite part was going back downhill to close his eyes and wake up looking up at tomorrow.

A Day in the Life of a Baker
By: Seth Melchizedek T. Alegado
Tumblr media
Cakes have always been at the forefront of any special occasion next to the celebrator (if there is any). Those layers of sweet icing spread upon blocks upon blocks of soft pastry do not fail to catch the eyes of guests and of kids especially. Add to that the handiwork and thought given to design the cake according to the theme and motif of the event which are perceived to be usually cute and artsy. Nonetheless, only a few appreciate the time and effort the bakers put into these pastries that only ever live for less than a week after coming out of the oven.
Froilan S. Alegado is an emerging baker in General Santos City. What had only been a simple preparation for his wife’s birthday celebration became an opportunity for him to start up a business in baking homemade, customized cakes for the public. Without any formal training in this industry, he has already acquired valued customers that do not hesitate to patronize his work, and this network continues to expand as more and more people get a glimpse or a taste of his products. His cakes are interesting and delicious enough, but his dedication also calls for as much appreciation.
At 5:00 a.m., Froilan starts his day with a prayer of thanks to the Lord. Then, he is up and about preparing breakfast for the family. Within these early hours, Froilan spends his time for the house and his family and sees to it that everyone has arrived safely in school or in the workplace. On a few occasions, he would wake up much earlier to catch up with morning deliveries or to continue/begin working on bulk orders.
After sending his children and wife to their respective stations, Froilan goes to the market to buy the materials and/or ingredients needed; however, he prefers to do this 2 days before delivery. At home, he would begin preparing for the day’s order/s by creating the cake bases, boxes, fondants, gum paste flowers, and etc. If there are any orders for the next day, Froilan would also start baking the cake/s a day before which would take 1-3 hours depending on the quantity. Before frosting the cake/s, he has around 1-2 hours to do daily household chores while waiting for the cake/s to cool. When the cake/s are ready for frosting, it is time for him to get creative and design the cake/s. This process would take around an hour depending on the complexity of the design. Finally, the cake/s will be delivered right to the customer’s doorstep.
For the rest of the afternoon, he posts his finished products in social media and communicates with previous and potential customers. Oftentimes, his wife contacts him about cake orders she had gathered within her network. He also does research on new cake recipes, cake designs, and baking tutorials to improve his craft. In the next few hours, he returns to tending the house and spending time with his family. Further into the night, he prepares for the next day’s orders once again before taking a good night’s rest.

The Headquarters of Robert Optical Company is like a Rolex watch; hundreds of things have to work together in order for the company to operate. Like fine clockwork, dozens of employees from many different walks of life do their tasks to make the company work. Try to imagine the most important parts of the company however. The marketing teams, research and development departments, human resources, CEO, board of directors etc. probably came to mind. It absolutely is true that these people absolutely make up the beating heart of the company. The true unsung heroes of the company, however, are the brave men and women of the janitorial department.
There is an old adage called JFK and the Janitor. In 1961, while visiting the NASA headquarters, president John F. Kennedy saw a man sweeping the floor and introduced himself. He asked the man “What exactly is it that you do here at NASA”. The janitor replied “Well sir, I’m putting a man on the moon.” Such is the understated truth of any institution; everyone there is working to the tune of something greater than any individual. Everyone is working to forward the future of the company, no matter how seemingly small each person’s job is.
While engineers and accountants seem to take countless sick days, vacations and leaves of absences, you can always count on Dan the custodian manager to be there. The board of directors would be hardpressed to name anyone on even the research and development floor, but we all know Dan (and can rely on him more). While most of the staff, even the higher ups in marketing and r&d show up at work in the morning, Dan seems to be at the ready at the crack of dawn everyday. Wherever and whenever the mess may be, Dan’s fast response ensures no spill go un-mopped, no floor go unswept, and no window go un-squeegeed. There is an almost frightening precision to the way that Dan carries himself through the day. To an outsider, his style might seem almost random in the way through which he performs his tasks, but in reality he has a self spawned system of going through his work. He uses a ranking system by a mental order of importance which he refined and perfected through his years of working at Robert Optical. Even his janitorial closet is organized down to every last detail; each and every shelf is labeled and every item is neatly stacked.
Some may say Dan is simply a hard worker, others say he has ocd, but I say what he has is vision. He understands that he is a part of something bigger than himself. His “minor” role is a part of a far larger story that would be empty in his absence. If you are to take away anything from this, let it be that no matter what your role is, whether it be in the workplace or in life itself, you are a part of something grand and amazing.

To say businessmen are busy is an understatement. There is really no such thing as a typical day for a businessman. For them every single day is a new beginning. A new chapter filled with numerous adventures.
At 4:00 am every morning, Mr. Antonio wakes up and readies himself for a brand new day filled with loads of work. He is an early bird and a workaholic too. He never lets a day pass without him doing anything productive. The first thing he does to start his day is make himself a cup of hot coffee. While drinking coffee, he either watches news or go on his phone and check on updates, messages and emails from his clients. After replying to some important emails he then checks his agenda to make sure he did all his tasks. By 7 am he would leave the house to send his two daughters to school. Then goes back home to get ready, fix a few things and get all the things he needs for work.
Mr. Antonio spends most of his time out of town. Together with his wife they leave every morning at 8 am to go to different places. Their work includes traveling to different cities to supply hospital supplies for various hospitals and dialysis centers. Travel time usually takes about 2-3 hours depending on the location. He usually travels to neighboring cities like Marbel, Kidapawan and Davao City. There are times wherein he needs to be at two cities that day. On those days he would leave extra early than usual for his first appointment to make sure he makes it on time for the next.
For this day Mr. Antonio was set to go to Kidapawan City. He left the house at around 5 am disrupting his usual routine. After meeting his clients and delivering the supplies needed he quickly left and drove back to General Santos City in time for his next meeting. On his way back to General Santos City he usually stops by to eat lunch at whatever restaurant or fast food chain he passes by. By 5 pm he was back home again and just when he thought work was over, his phone rings. It was a call from a hospital requesting him to come for a meeting. It was an urgent call and so, without complain he left the house and met his clients.
He got home by 7 pm. Just in time for dinner. He ate with his whole family. Watched a bit of TV. Then checked his phone to read articles that caught his attention. After reading about 4 to 5 news articles and other writings he checked his agenda to know his schedule for the next day. By 10 pm he is already set for bed but before anything else he prepares the things he needs for the next day and made sure everything is complete. Only then will he be able to rest.

A Day in the Life…
By: Brian Garay
Her day starts at 7AM. The first thing she does is get out of bed and check the time on her phone as she soon tries to find her flip-flops. She also pets both of her beautiful dogs who apparently sleep close to her. Then, she eats breakfast before finally proceeding to take a shower. It usually takes her hours to leave for work just because she checks financial accounts in her computer. Everyone knows her as the no-nonsense workaholic, and the skilled woman-in-charge of the family business, but her days usually start very ordinary, like most people. This woman is no other than my mother.
My mom, for the most part of my life, has always been focused in keeping the company in good shape. The company’s name is Well-Delight Network (WDN) which is situated in General Santos City’s Fish Port Complex. Father, on the other hand, is part of the board of directors and shareholders; however, mom volunteered to do most of the heavy-lifting which is to manage the operations of the entire business. All day long, she would face the computer or the numerous documents and portfolios littered on her table. Like any normal boss, she would occasionally check in on her employees, but she is not much of a social person, so it would be back to the computer or the documents for her. Every day, people would come in the office to ask for funds, checks, money, and advices from her, usually lasting a few minutes as she had no time to waste. Every minute or so, she would get calls from business partners, clients, and employees who would continue to complicate her increasingly worsening workload, but because of her professionality and finesse, all problems would be approached with a proper solution.
Tumblr media
There are instances when she would think of her nephews and son at separate schools during weekdays. She would also not forget about her beloved four-legged companions, of course. However, mother’s free time is usually spent for work, so she cannot stay too bothered with life outside the business. Since our family has a fish shop that sells different kinds of tuna products, as well as an ice plant, she has too much to handle on her hands. Not to mention the several households that she has to manage off-work.
Being the head and general manager of a private fishing corporation, my mom does not have a fixed date of going home as she is forced to spend overtime during tough days. But, when nothing else is there to provide her with more problems, mom is joyous to be able to get home as early as 7PM in some nights. Unfortunately once she gets home, she eats dinner and goes back to her financial documents in her computer before going to bed. If she is lucky to finish them early, she proceeds to scroll through her Facebook account or choose the perfect channel on TV. For most of her workdays, mother’s daily activities go through like this.

Business was hectic today in the Tantay Industries. The orders of the clients piling up, everyone in the agency doing everything they can to organize the items outs, and Larry, our Chief Operating Officer, is having a checkup. Sure the business is small, but that doesn’t mean that our customers are the same. Our small business is a big benefit.
Tantay Industries sells various kinds merchandise from hats, shirts, cellphone casing, bags, mugs, hoodies, sunglasses, and many more. The business is locally famous, though there are times when we have to deliver them to different cities. Right now, we’re having a hard time managing the orders and deliveries to Ilolo. Usually Larry is here to manage the deliveries; he figures out just what needs to be measured so he can tell if things are going well. Then the team creates the systems to track the measurements and takes action when the company isn't delivering.
Without Larry around the team are chickens with no heads. Though in panic, we were was able to manage half of the deliveries. It’s a good thing Larry came at end of the day. When he showed up the merchandise were delivered in a matter minutes, he also helped in the finance. He really is a big help and without him to manage the deliveries the business would definitely go down the drain.
Days like these are usually the time we need to work with each other. It’s when the business is like this that we need to come together and without Larry being there the system is slow. With him around he makes the whole system flow smoothly, we are thankful to have him here.

An insight of a business woman and her team
By: Ainsley Margret T. Ben
I witness the evolution of my family business flourished to its full capacity that we know today. From a very young age, I saw how my mom and grandma created their proud company using their determination and hard work. They always engraved in my mind saying how I should study harder in order to take over the business, because of that I studied my ass off. By the age of 23, I became the CEO of Ben Enterprise with my cousin as my business partner.
I began to develop a routine in the office everyday have my cup of coffee given by my assistant with the new updates and negation papers on my desk. My company is in the coconut business, we are responsible for supplying coconuts from different countries around the world; from coconut milk, to shavings, sugar, and even using the trunks and branches for furniture. My cousin handles the math or computations, and I handle the front face, sales negotiations, meetings, basically the talk.
Every day I get updates from stocks to new opportunities without my team, I would probably end up with no sleep. I wanted the office with a good vibe and clean atmosphere, so every year I plan a team exercise in order to release tension and to bond closer with my team, making our environment very family friendly. We try and support one another, I try and give my very best optimism to them and every step that we take, and I always congratulate and share the success with them.
I am very grateful for the team I have today and sharing the company with my cousin well more like sister is another bonus for me. My team is my family, we try to create a comfortable and an open atmosphere to support one another. To have a successful business is to become a good team leader in where you can share the success and give positive support with your team.

Social Media in Business
With the increasing amount of digital media worldwide, it only seemed natural for the business world to accommodate itself with the commodity. Recently, some businesses have made names for themselves on social media. Most famous brands have Facebook pages and Twitter accounts. These online self-projections of the business often update their feed with information about their products. It seems like a cost-effective way of advertising but is it really good for the business's development?
I would like to believe that, yes, it does give quite the advantage. Through social media, a business is able to advertise itself. And for a nearly non-existent fee. Since the one running the business still does have to pay for the internet bill.
It also allows for the business to connect with its customers on a professional and a personal level. Through a professional relationship, the business can help its customers find exactly what they want and at their convenience. A somewhat personal relationship can also be fostered on social media. This can be done by giving the business an image that could resonate with most of its customers. The business can try to style its page to look smart and appeal to people who have similar tastes for example.
Not only that, but businesses that have social media counterparts appeal to the millennials who spend most of their time on the internet. This is a very notable detail as, most of the future customer market will be made up of millennials as the older generation dies. And so, it is a good idea to prepare for this market change through the use of social media.

Social media--for Business or Not? By: Robert Marsch
As time approaches infinity, technology approaches what is known as convergence. Convergence in the context of our daily lives means that as time progresses, everything we do with technology is slowly become unified. A large example of this is Social Media.
The modern business landscape is an ever changing one, and it is necessary for businesses to adapt. In recent years, Social Media has become a very necessary component on many levels. Public relations, advertising, and technical support all can be vectored through social media to the public. Through social media, even top end executives can communicate to the general public, something previously only done through media outlets such as the news. An example is Elon Musk, who often uses twitter and reddit to talk to the public. This sort of interaction creates a very new relationship between businesses and the public. Social media also allows a degree of technical support. This kind of open dialogue creates a positive image for the company in the eyes of the public. Social Media has become a very necessary part of running any business.

Social media—for business or not? By: Nina Isabelle J. Alolod
Social media is a collection of websites and applications dedicated to share content or to engage in social networking. Every day, billions of people use social media to connect with others and events in different places around the globe. Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and Twitter are one of the most popular apps used by billions. Some may say that they bear resemblance to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse due to the chaos that resides in their digital lands. Moving on from my poor attempt at a witty analogy, these applications have their purposes—Instagram was intended for an audience that were interested in photography and the lives of celebrities, Tumblr was made for bloggers and weirdos who posted varying things from the thoughts about the resurrection of Neo-Dadaism in millennial humor to questionable fanfiction of a hit Netflix show, Twitter was a space for those who were able to express themselves with a limited amount of words, and Facebook—once a place where friends and family stayed connected despite of physical distance—became a place where friends and family stayed connected despite of physical distance but with a strange, convoluted mix of all the three previous apps. So, in the midst of all the pandemonium that is the Internet, it begs the question: is social media for business or not?
In my opinion, yes—social media can be a viable tool for business. I could even say that social media itself is a business. As defined by a lazy Google search, the word ‘business’ was described as “a person’s regular occupation, profession, or trade”—This is true for some cases in which people depend on the use of social media apps for their jobs. A good example is YouTube. YouTube establishes itself as a social media website and is home to millions of content creators who depend on views to make money. By my lazy Google search, social media is technically business. Moving onto my next point: Though despite its original purpose, many social apps can become a platform for entrepreneurs and the like.
Taking the aforementioned apps from before, a travel agency can use Instagram to promote their business. They can use beautiful pictures from different countries to attract potential customers. An art supply company can demonstrate the quality of their products by sponsoring aspiring artists on Tumblr that, once has posted art created using said products, can advertise the company by giving credit to their works. Even fast food chain restaurants like Wendy appealed to the masses by insulting other fast food chain restaurants on Twitter. New businesses can promote themselves on Facebook where friends and family can tag one another in posts thereby producing numerous potential customers.
In conclusion, I definitely support the idea of businesses utilizing social media. After all, social media is not just for the selfies, fan art, and memes; it can be—and is—a place for business as well.

Suiting Up in Social Media By Seth Melchizedek T. Alegado
Tumblr media
Professional and budding entrepreneurs have found a home in social media platforms. With social media, entrepreneurs can connect with a larger audience and can thus promote their product or service. Consequently, they get an advantage over other entrepreneurs especially if they make full use of these social media platforms. Be that as it may, is social media for business or not?
At the core of social media is the purpose of connecting with other and/or familiar people. People set up their accounts to which they reflect themselves through their posts, reactions, and manner of use. May it be transparent to who they really are or only an aspect of them, social media accounts are established to be seen by everyone or at least a number of people. Undeniably, people tend to project themselves in social media platforms in a way that is relatable or, most commonly, likable to other netizens. This is similar to marketing, but instead of a product or service, people market themselves to an audience.
With this in mind, it cannot be said that social media is not for business because, although unconsciously, people are already branding themselves as they are. Businesses then are not unwelcome to the network. In fact, social media openly presents bigger opportunities to these businesses for expansion and popularity.
Nowadays, start-up businesses utilize social media to establish their target market even before the release of their product or service. This does not only help in their promotions and sales, but it also helps in facilitating communication and building a relationship between the entrepreneur/s and the (potential) customers. For example, entrepreneurs can get insights from customer reviews and complaints on how they can improve their product or service. Moreover, they can enhance their market intelligence from which they can refer to for marketing strategies and tactics.
Other businesses, on the other hand, use social media as their transaction channel and/or their cyber location. In particular, businesses which do not have their very own websites are free to do so as some social media platforms offer functions to cater businesses and help in some processes (i.e. gathering Web analytics data). However, these businesses may soon seek full authority or control over their site and opt to have their own website. Nevertheless, social media is truly an appropriate tool for start-up businesses.
The flexibility and authority that entrepreneurship provides suit the ease of access and popularity of social media among almost everyone in the world. Social media platforms do not only help bridge the gap but also strengthen the relationship between entrepreneurs and customers, thus benefiting both along the way. Whether for personal or entrepreneurial purposes, social media is a new ground for the corporate world.

Social media-for business or not?  by: Colleen B. Gozalo
Nowadays more than half of the world’s population is connected through social media. There are over 2 billion people who have active social media accounts and every single day billions of people visit their own personal social media accounts like Facebook, Instagram and twitter. With such a large number of the world’s population using social media business cannot afford to lose this ticket to market their products especially that competition in the business world is quite tight.
There are several of things that social media can offer that will definitely benefit a business. One of it is the customers’ insights. A customer’s insight is very valuable to a businessman. Social media users often post things about what they think or feel about a certain thing. By engaging with the customers and listening to their opinions, relevant data can be gathered. Being on social media and listening to peoples’ opinions also makes the customer feel important. It makes the customer feel valued and thus will result to a good relationship with the customer. A good relationship leads to a loyal customer. An establishment can also gain information on what other establishments are up to. Knowing the next step of other competitors gives a businessman an opportunity to make strategic decisions to stay ahead of others. However, a businessman must keep in mind that social media is not a platform to show off its sales or degrade other companies. It is a channel that gives establishments an opportunity to connect with their customers and build good provider-consumer relationship. And this kind of relationship cannot be done by traditional marketing.
Social media allows companies to help grow their business. It helps the company learn more about their target market, enables them to engage with their customers and extend the brands reach. Business must not allow themselves to lose a big opportunity like this to extend their reach and venture into greater heights. Companies must not pass a great opportunity that enables them to grow even more. After all, a great entrepreneur does not stick to what he has. Great entrepreneurs do not stop. They venture out of their comfort zones and accept the changes happening in their environment. To keep a company’s stand in the business world they must go with the changes and not live on the traditional ways, for if they do they will be left behind.

Social media- for business or not? by: Ainsley Margret T. Ben
Social media change and mold the world today. The youth today uses every advantages they get in order to use social media as a platform for their business, they want something convenient and easy to access in the comfort of their own fingers. For every app you download, from every comment or like you get, the people who created those app are making profit out of it.
The millennials today are lazy yet creative, they find ways to make things easier and faster. You can now shop online and also sell used or new items to people who are looking or interested. Since almost all the young and the old has a smart form; surely advertisement comes easily everywhere. Celebrities to entrepreneur and business man/ woman found this convenient and an advantage.

Social Media–for Business or Not?  by: Brian Steve F. Garay
With the advent of digital technology, more people worldwide have been able to access social media sites in their phones and computers. Social media, like Facebook and Twitter, has become a tool for Internet users to send messages to their family and friends. These sites could also be a source of entertainment for several people. But, could social media be a gateway for many business opportunists and entrepreneurs? Should it be for business, too?
It is a fact that social media provides its users with thousands of applications and opportunities; anyone could use it his or her own purposes, so social media for business is just as appropriate as using it for entertainment. As a collective whole, social media generates a huge amount of data about customers in real time, for example there are about 500 million Tweets and 4.5 billion “Likes” on Facebook revealing who these potential customers are, as well as what they want in a product or service. Furthermore, social media is a place where people can connect with one another, so it is now easier for people to locate for budding entrepreneurs and promising business ventures online. As a result, businessmen can take advantage of this by connecting with customers to increase brand awareness and loyalty.
Most customers also expect business owners to be present in social media because of the increasing rise of opportunities present online. Over 67 percent of consumers go to social media for customer service, and they expect a fast response and 24/7 support from companies. As time goes on, social media will be continued to be improved upon by developers, thus allowing more opportunities for entrepreneurs to work and manage their businesses.
To end, social media should be for business, just as much as it is used for entertainment purposes because it serves as more accessible platforms for several users.
