Movement Project - Retrospective
I think that all together my project well encapsulates my theme however I feel that I should've focused more on family and the idea of the family tree rather than memory
I never got to finish my ceramics and risography due to my physical issues which I now have documented I also wish I did more artists research in the weeks leading up to my flare up as the gap created by my disability complications severely undermines my work and dedication
I'm proud that I managed to be dedicated enough to come in daily despite my condition doing at least something to progress even if I came late or stayed early
I wish I posted more regularly on my Tumblr pre-tutorial during research week as it would've been easier to catch my lack of research
I LOVE A LOT OF THE PIECES I MADE even if I do not think my concept or execution of it was very strong
I have one good and one bad-week in each elective and I feel that I managed to combine all of them together effectively and achieve what was asked of me
I WISH I WENT TO THE LIBRARY WHEN I WAS STRUGGLING WITH RESEARCH TO BE MORE MATURE AND DO THINGS MYSELFFFF it was so awkward asking for help as I know tutors expected us to be more self-sufficient and mature this semester which is a big not I got from Paul during our tutorial in R.week
I feel as though I definitely improved on what was asked of me in the tutorial in my weaker areas

Artist Mention: Derrick J. Wyatt
I wanted to mention Derrick's work since day one in my notebook of this brief and while I never got to research him for this project I cannot understate how much he influence my stylised work and childhood something which DID impact the outcome this project
His use of shape and silhouettes on shows like Transformers Animated, Scooby Doo Mystery Inc. Ben. 10 Omniverse and Teen Titans
I really just wanted to mention him badly especially since he passed away in 2022(?) during the heights of covid

out of the 350+ photographs we took only about 40 were chosen to be posted I hand selected a few of those photos to filter through in silver-tone to match the photography in my home
My goal was to get a handful of images that could be put alongside those at home to add me and my identity, showcasing who I am to the ongoing family tree

I often wonder what my great great family, my ancestors would think of my queer disabled identity and if they would be ashamed or honoured that I made this project with them in mind
I wanted to play with the idea of queerness with the female bust I thought it would've been comical

some of my favourite blurred photos and some none that I think capture that old 2000s camera feel in colour especially with the flashback on the eyes

Used my beloved ball to hopefully recreate that sincere joy seen in the picture of baby me with the ball in the bath but now all awkward and grown up
I wanted the pictures and my body to feel awkward much like some Slavic war photography, when I went to Kiev in Ukraine I remember and exhibit that focused on showing old war photos of people living naked, poor dancing smiling capturing the moment to moment reality of just living despite everything not just surviving

I love the distortions and melting together of me and mr bunny it looks like we're splitting or melting together similarly to Martin Walls work and my first few distorted photographs from week 1
I wanted my photographs to capture that childlike whimsy and familial bond between me and my forever friend

I wanted to create a selection of images that would fit alongside the photographs that showcase all the generations of my family back at home along our stairs
I wanted to capture real moments of sincerity between me and my bunny plush ''Królis'' has been a part of my life since day one and much like ''Alan Measles'' means a lot to Gary my childhood and icons like mr bunny always remain in all artwork I make
I especially wanted to create blurred distorted images which @k00319461 thought of doing by just violently shaking the camera and taking pictures as we laugh around and set up to capture more genuine movements

Week 7/7: Painting based on Print Elective
''the past is a wormhole''
Seeing my idea fully realised in paint makes me wish I made that mask in ceramics, due to time constraints I worry I got a little sloppy
I unintentionally made the character look a lot like famous drag queen Divine best known for her roles in the movies of John Waters
I think my attempt at tying back the idea of the clock worked quite well however I am disappointed by the wormhole aspect as the movement isn't as fluid as expected
Attempted to layer my colours to match the blushing on the sculptures of Tina Yu

Week 7/7: Ceramics and Painting Results
I love the overglazed frame sculpture creating a cloudy mirror like look just how I wanted
i assembled the pictures onto their frames and I adore them they remind me of mini-silhouette portraits you'd see hanging in a cartoon
I especially love the harmony in forms of the rabbit and the frames which creates a sense of movement life and whimsy
my lovely little bunny all grown up..

Week 7/7: Contextual Artist Research Photography
Maxim Dondyuk
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maxim's photography is bold and high in contrast in his Chernobyl archive and SHADOW series he uses overlaying images to create distorted faces and silhouettes capturing the horror of history
I want my imagery to be uncomfortable and vague in form like his however I find his work quite a great example of the spectacle, this idea that human suffering can be staged to look beautiful and profitable Jerzy Tomaszewski
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jerzy Tomaszewki is well known in Polish culture for his photography of the reality of polish civilians and soldier fighting back during the Warsaw Uprising, They fought for equality a Poland for all this idea of equality means a lot to me
I wanted to capture raw emotions in my photography in a similar way to Mr. Tomaszewski to make a set of images my ancestors would be proud of Grayson Perry
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This artist was introduced to me thanks to Elaine in ceramics, as he often portrays his teddy bear ''Alan Measles'' in his work, his beloved childhood toy which symbolises comfort and love
The toy is treated like a treasured companion a symbol of creation and worshipped almost
I wanted to portray this idea of a life-long bond in my photography

Week 7/7 Exploring Distorting Primary from Print
For my painting inspired by all I've learned in Print I've realised there was no distortion and warping to go together with the rest of my warped Primary resources
I explored a few distortions digitally which gave me a better plan for my painting which i will attempt to finish on Friday I loved the WORMHOLE and the suction movement applied to the figure
it reminded me of the many splats and circular marks from my expressive markmaking in week 2

Week 7/7: Painting Developed based on Print
Using my previous Ideas I wanted to create a painting that ties together my imagery from print and the typography from dry point
I decided to reuse the idea I had for my clay mask let's hope I finish the piece on time

Week 7/7 Painting on Canvas Development based on Ceramics
Inspired by Kacy Jung's photography I painted the distorted face of my aunt as a baby based on the ceramic slab that came from distorting it in week 2
I painted it in red tone through colour to match the other ceramic pieces I made and to contrast with the cold latex which came from the same slab
I painted it directly onto fabric so I could distort and photograph it once it dried
The high contrast of the shadows in this painting ended up aging this painting drastically making her coincidentally look like my grandmother

Week 7/7: Contextual Artist Research Kacy Jung
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This artist really spoke to me due to her use of different materials to print her photography to comment on different aspects and questions about the human consciousness such as ''what stops us from pursuing our dreams?''
The use of printing on material and distorting it to add poses to images of faces was really striking and something I wanted to try myself to show the concept of how the faces in our family repeat

Mai Pimentel De Dios
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whilst not too inspiring for my work they were yet another artists that worked in distortions I love their bold use of colour and strong forms and I wish I found this artist earlier to incorporate them into more of my work
The parallel/ symmetrical faces are strikingly similar to my first set of distorted photographs
