Research

Van Gogh was an artist that I researched for Ceramics. He is one of the most famous and influential Artists in the history of art. I wanted to look into other artists that done work similar to my project. Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' was a piece of work that I explored. The way he paints really inspired me. The swirls in the back of his painting really shows the wind moving around and that’s how I also imagine wind, so I done some pieces with the research of this painting. As you can see, with some of my ceramic pieces I used tools to mark into the clay to show how I imagine wind in my mind.

Week 6- Ceramics

i wanted to recreate the folds of clothes in the wind so my lecturer Elaine showed me how to create it using clay. firstly, i made a really thing piece of clay and marked it using a comb on some and then cardboard on the other one. I then picked it up and strted to move it around in different directions to create fold like clothes would have in the wind. These are my favorite clay pieces i made.

week 6- Ceramics

After doing my ink work I started to use the clay. for this workshop i wanted to create stuff that reminded me how wind flows in my mind so i started off by making a tile with ridges in it curving to the side and then used a comb and swiped it around the tile in different directions to show the wind swerving around. After this piece I wanted to make something more 3D, I made another tile but instead of just marking it I god smaller pieces of me clay and twisted then and stuck them onto the tile and layering them beside each other. It is similar to the ink sculpture I made. I also done some mark making on this.

Week 6- Ceramics

After doing my ink drawings, I photocopied loads of my drawings and inverted them. I then cut them up and stuck them together to make a collage. I didn't like how 2D it was so i decided to make a mini sculpture and folded an created shapes using the ink drawings to show how intense wind can get. The lower the shapes the more soft it is and as I went further i made them higher to how more of an intensity of the wind.

Week 6- Ceramics

this week i done the ceramics workshop. We started off with doing some ink drawing and i wanted to capture the movement of wind so i used different tools like thread and sponge brushes and splatter them and swirled them all over the page. I wanted to create work that shows how i see wind in my mind and the movement of it going around the page.

Week 4- print

I started to do some prints using the Lino and layering them. I only liked a few of the prints i did as i feel that some of them became messy and the prints came out too light or too smushed. But the ones that came out good I really love them and the colours I used.

Week 4- print

This week I decided to do my own work and create a print using lino. Today I made my design and carved out my Lino block. I really liked my painting of the plastic so i decided to recreate it in a lino but i wanted to show how wind moves around so i carved out marks in the lino to show the curves and swirls that i imagine wind to have.

Screen printing day 2

Today I finished my cut out and decided to print it onto fabric. I done it multiple times to give it a wallpaper effect.

Week 3 workshop: print

I did the print workshop with Fiona. We started off by making stencils for our print and we cut out the parts we wanted to show up. We then started to screen print them I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately I didn’t get it finished today but I really loved doing it.

Week 2- painting

Today I started on a new painting of my skirt blowing in the wind. I am really interested in how clothes folds in the wind for this project. I took a picture of me in the wind wearing a long white skirt and done a painting of it. I was really inspired by the picture of marilyn monroe standing outside with her dress blowing in the wind and i wish i completed this painting.

Research

One of my biggest inspirations for this project was Marilyn Monroes dress blowing in the wind. I done work on how clothes moves and flows in the wind and i just loved this picture of Marilyn and how flowy her dress was.

week 2- painting

I have done another painting this week of plastic flying around the sky in the wind. I feel that litter is a big problem in our society and the wind blowing i around does not help. I started with a basic painting of a plastic bag flying in the sky but I added some cling film around parts of it to make it look like the plastic is coming off the page. I didn't want these paintings to be 2D as my one from last week was flat.

Week 2- Painting

In week 2 I decided to do painting again, I wanted to do my disciplines in blocks. The first painting i have done i used a primary source which was a picture of me and my friend walking down the road with our hair flowing in the wind and petals flowing around us.

I didn't want this painting to be super flat so i found some dried up petals off flowers I had and stuck them on my painting to show the petals flying around us!

Week 1- Painting

this week after my workshop I decided to do a painting of me with my hair blowing in the wind. I used a reference photo of me with my hair going everywhere and my face is scrunched up. I used one of my paintings from the workshop to use as a background for this painting.

Research

I came across a painting by Gaetano Bellei called 'A Gust of Wind'. I fell in love with this painting as it captured what I wanted to do in this project 'Movement'. In this painting, there is a woman in the wind wearing a long flowy lilac dress. I was really interested in how her dress flows in this painting and the angle she is standing in. The dress flowing really makes it look like that it is windy and hitting her from the left of the painting. It also shows an umbrella on the right and it looks like the wind was strong enough to blow it out of her hand. Bellei really captured the 'movement of wind' in this painting.

Movement: 16/1

Today I was in the painting room with Eoin and he was showing us how to make our own painting tools. I made a few tools and experimented with them. I used a stick and stuck thread onto the top of it to create some of these patterns in the paintings. I also used a lid to make these circles.

Week 1 workshop: life drawing (15/1)

Today I did the workshop life drawing with Eoin. Painting is one of my disciplines so I decided to try out this workshop. When I went into the room we all got an easel and set up our spot. We started with 30 second charcoal sketches and drew a man that was standing in the middle of the room. Every few minis he switched positions. It went from thirty seconds to 2 mins to 5 mins to 10. This workshop helped to to sketch faster as I am really slow at drawing so I felt the pressure doing 30 second sketches.
