Tom Ford Fall 2015 Runway Patchwork Denim Collection
According to www.denimsandjeans.com "Thomas Carlyle “Tom” Ford is an American fashion designer and film director. He gained international fame for his turnaround of Gucci and the creation of the Tom Ford label before directing the Oscar-nominated film A Single Man. While at Gucci he had made a ultra-lux jeans which sold for $3134"
I really like the outcome of these garnments, they are unique and different. I like them because Tom Ford mixed non-denim fabrics e.g animal print, shapes, color and fur with denim which I think made the garnments more eyecatching. Looking at this runway looks, it is inspiring me to make a patchwork garment made from denim and maybe even mix a bit of leather or faux fur patches to it to create a more interesting look.
The process of my reconstruction top. I got the idea of making one of my croqui designs. I was planning on making a full dress but due to the lack of time that I have, I thought that it would have been a good idea to stick with just a top. This is my first time properly sewing a garment. I used the mannequin in the studio to drape my top then I pinned them all together and started sewing. I also thought it would have been great to use the belt as a strap for the top to hold up. I’m really happy with what I ended up making because I didn’t think that I had the skill or the experience to make a piece of clothing.
Contemporary Sustainable, Recycling and Upcycling Artist Research
Between all the sustainable designers that I have researched Marine Serre is the most high end brand by far. I always see my favourite singers wearing the brand’s iconic pattern prints which is the half moon pattern. When I was researching I was surprised that Marine Serre came up as a brand that is sustainable because it is considered as a high brand.

Mara Hoffman is a fashion designer who is known for her ECO - FRIENDLY garments. She is based in NewYork and designs woman’s wear. The brand aims to encourage customers to re-evaluate the relationship they have with their clothing.
Alexander McQueen was a well known fashion designer from the United Kingdom. He has passed away but his work still lives on and so does his brand. The Alexander McQueen brand still so famous to this day. I’ve always been a fan of his work because his runways reminded me of walking sculptures. I also included him to my artist research because he worked with a lot of lace fabric and also floral and that is what I am doing now as well.
Olivier rousteing is the French designer of Balmain. I wanted to include him into my artist research because he puts out beautiful garments with beautiful colours and shapes. He goes extra with the silhouettes and the types of fabrics/materials. I too experimented with different types of silhouettes during my 12 croqui designs on paper.
Vivienne Westwood is known as a very famous designer. She experiments on her work a lot, especially with colours and themes. She really does step outside the box with all of her amazing designs.
The reason why I am including her into my artist research is because I remember her having these floral or lace pieces on her runway shows and one of the garments that I’m working on is laced floral as well.
My top 6 outfits, front back and side from the 12 croquis that I have done. As you can see I did change them a little bit because I wanted to explore more with the looks. I didn’t go too far from the original designs because I did really like what I’ve designed.
