The finished video. Its a bit shaky because I had to take the photos on my phone. This line is from South Park and I thought it seemed appropriate given the current situation.

The final line drawings with shading. Think I’d have been better off going for a different style of shading like a block colour but I can’t really go back now so sure it’ll do

The finished Monogram animation. In the end I added a blue filter over the water layer so the fish changes tone just slightly while underwater. I added a paper texture to the piece and a warm filter. I tried to make the movement as organic as I could but looking back Id prefer if there was more of an arc to the fishs twirl. I couldn’t hack moving the camera on After Effects so I moved the sea and all the fishes so give the illusion of moving upwards. It was a lot of trial and error but I’m happy enough with the outcome.

Chalkboard animation of the monogram. The end of it looks dodgy because it was reshot. The idea was when the fish flips in the air, water drops fall off him and reveal the LK.

Sketchbook ideas that I went on to bring in to illustrator. I contemplated different styles for this animation. The style with visible brush strokes felt the most ‘me’ so I went with that. I learnt lots from the videos Arturo sent us on manipulating lines to look different ways and in different styles and this was hugely helpful for this.

Made a stop motion animation with a chalkboard in the early stages of doing my monogram animation. There’s also pics from my notebook of figuring out things

Photos that I took (less than 2km from my house 😎) which informed my monogram animation. Really liked the warm tones created from taking the pictures through sunglasses, but I paired this back a lot when it came to the final piece. Also recorded some audio of waves while I was here.

Had a look at the videos Arturo sent us for AdobeIllustrator. This is my first attempt drawing something on it by myself. Drew a picture of Alfred (of course) from a quick sketch I had. Was interesting to mess around with different brushes. I’m not a fan of clean lines so this effect was fun to create.

My moodboard from the beginning of the project. I really like the use of colour in the town background and bus scene. The animals depicted in this are  subtly personified but still retain their attributes which I wanted to aim for. I took the town of Kinvara as inspiration for the background design because its very colourful and Irish looking at the same time. Club penguin needs no explanation as inspiration. Finally, the comic in the middle is from one of my favourite artists. He’s comics are really funny and relatable because of his hyperbolic depiction of facial expressions and I wanted to emulate this in my work.

Some contextual research for the smarter travel animation. These are all from games that have animals. They are AnimalRestaurant, PenguinIsle and ClubPenguin. I really like the first ones use of color and simple lines. It was interesting to see how all these games delt with animal movement.
