Cover design combining elements from both ideas.

I decided to do another cover mock up using the figures, this time I used the collage on the front cover and a pattern on the back. I decided to overlay the lines used in previous designs on the back cover to add more interest. I am really pleased with this design as well. I opted for a hand written title this time instead of the digital type I used on the last mock up and I feel it works well with the rest of the design. I would incorporate colour on this but I don’t feel like it needs it.

This is a cover mock up using the idea of the 4 bodies. I am very pleased with how this has come out. Though I liked this cover when it was more minimal, I feel the addition of the figures has made it much more interesting and balanced.

Another Idea

After reading the extract meant for the back of the book, I decided I wanted to represent the four bodies that were discovered. After thinking about how to do so in an interesting way, I remembered how often in murder investigations bodies are represented by chalk drawings. These chalk drawings are very stylized. I thought this would be an interesting idea to use on my cover. I drew the shape of the bodies onto some textures that I have previously made and began laying these out on paper in different arrangements.

I added the letters onto my minimalistic cover in an attempt to change the look of the design. I also added a spine design. I am happy with the spine on this, I like the subtle introduction of colour seen in the pastel pink. However, I am not sure the spine and front cover compliment one another, and I am not sure whether I like the cover with the letters added to it.

Mock Up:

This is another mock up I have produced. This time I disregarded the letters and decided to just use the lines. I wanted to go for a more minimalistic approach on this one. I am very happy with how this design looks, although I am aware this in no way meets the penguin brief.

This is the first mock up I have produced using my most recent ideas. I really like where this is going, although the front cover needs work. I am happy with the spine and back cover on this design, however, I have not included the required information on the back.

I have been playing around with tracing paper in attempt to create some interesting imagery.

I made photocopies of the lines and cut out the letters by hand. I then threw the letters onto the paper randomly and took these pictures of the different formations (except for the bottom right, I placed that one). My favourite one here is perhaps the most random one of all, the top right.
