Headcanon that if House is having trouble sleeping Wilson will rub his back.
It starts when Stacy leaves after the infarction. House still needs a lot of support so Wilson stays with him. It’s just easier if he sleeps in bed with House, that way if he needs anything during the night Wilson is right there to help.
House is in pain, heartbroken, and newly disabled. He tries to hide it but Wilson can hear him quietly crying, night after night. Wilson will fall asleep only to wake up hours later to House still crying.
Finally Wilson can’t take it anymore. It’s 2am and they got into bed at 10pm and he can probably count on his hands the number of hours of sleep House has had in the last week. House is his best friend and it’s killing him to watch him suffer.
So he takes a risk. He rolls over and places one hand on House’s back. He half expects House to shove him away, cuss him out. These days House’s anger is like a switch, he goes from subdued depression to violently angry in a matter of seconds and it seems Wilson is the only person who can withstand it.
House does nothing though. Only a slight flinch indicates he’s even noticed that Wilson is awake and touching him. So he takes another risk.
He begins to rub in gentle, soothing circles. His heart breaks when House begins to cry harder. Wilson knows House’s world is falling down around him. He knows House is scared. Scared that the world will leave him behind, just like Stacy. Wilson can’t help but murmur softly,
“Shh, it’s okay, House. Shh, I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.”
Eventually House quiets and eventually falls asleep under Wilson’s ministrations. They don’t talk about it the next day, but it becomes somewhat of a ritual.
And even years later when House’s emotions get the better of him and he can’t sleep, Wilson will come and lay down next to him. He’ll rub those soothing circles, and whisper reassurances until House drifts off.

season 8 finale thoughts.
i finally finished s8. and yes, it took me a month... I WAS STRUGGLING.
girl it was so on the nose—i'm underwhelmed! i thought it was gonna be a banger like house's head or 6x01 and all but ???? it was kinda mediocre i fear
but yeah omg it was so on the nose with the whole "i can change" since house's whole belief system is "people don't change." i still really enjoyed stacy's hallucination because house could be such a great dad.
i was really happy to see kutner, stacy and cameron return! i literally gasped when i saw kutner. i thought he'd never return, but thanks obama for letting kal penn film the ep 🙏
house and wilson riding off into the sunset was very much a hilson ending! they're textbook definition of ride or die. no other duo could ever !!!!
but my fav moments were of cameron looking at their christmas pic and foreman finding house's id!
I THOUGHT THEY BROUGHT BACK THE BLUE TURTLENECK GAHHH !!!! it genuinely upsets me that we never got to see it after s1
you can't have a man with eyes that blue to wear that and never pull it out the closet AGAIN LIKE WHERE DID IT GO
anyway, i still enjoyed it but i wished it ended with banger. the show deserves it.
time to rewatch and see the ducklings and everyone happy and not depressed !

sorry but getting to the end of s1 and realizing that actually, wilson is HORRIBLE from the very beginning has me in a steep spiral
like it becomes very obvious over the course of the show (and i know what's coming in the c word) but having not really paid a ton of attention to his character in s1 on every other watch I've done, I totally missed that ohmygod this guy sucks and is fucking manipulative and so good at hiding it and house is literally the only person who is calling him out on his bullshit. and house is doing the same damn stuff himself but without the gentle smile and doe eyes.
hilson truly a match made in hell.
.
this was my fourth watch of s1 and will be my third watch of s2-7. i could not bring myself to watch s8 after i finished my master's knowing how it ended. i'm still not prepared for it.

actually makes me sick how much s06e10 "wilson" is house/wilson coded. like yes i am a humanities student who will happily dive into source material and theorize over narrative elements and yes sometimes i look too much into it, but i truly believe that "wilson" is so undeniably about their love for each other. i really feel like a core element of this element and showing wilson's pov, is to show wilson's genuine love for house. we had seen it from an external view with his sacrifices for house, letting him stay in his room (and taking care of him, even if a psychiatrist decided he should have that role), even trying to hook him up with cuddy because he genuinely believes that house will be happier for it, but "wilson" just displays his feelings to the whole world.
first of all, i just love how you come to see how entwined house is with his regular life. i know they are throwing it on thick for the gag and because house is the main character, but the dynamic of the oncology ward and with cuddy where 'house' is the main theme of conversation, and the way the nurse knows house his antics enough to structure wilson's attempt at doing his regular job around it - it's really fascinating.
but the narrative in this episode?? it so obviously draws parallels. the two most noteworthy are in wilson and tucker's respective relationships with their loves ones, and in cuddy moving in together with her partner and house and wilson going appartment shopping.
tucker looking over at wilson after the surgery and saying: "but the person you want when you're dying, isn't the same as the person you want when you're living.", right after house shows up just before wilson is being put under (and does the tiniest little smile). oh gosh. it really reads as wilson needing the dangerous procedure (as stated by both house and cuddy) to realize that the person who he wants when he is dying is house - and ultimately for wilson, that type of gesture expands to setting his priorities in life. i think for wilson, realizing that he needs house when he's dying, is realizing he also needs and wants house when he's alive. (i'm not looking at season 8 but i am side-eying season 8).
and THEN the whole bit between house and wilson
"...but moving in together is a whole other level of commitment." "
"I realize that the logical course in any adult relationship could one day lead to fornication." and them ending the episode looking for an apartment together? i don't know how wilson's brain got chemically altered, but this man needed to do a liver transplant to probably acknowledge to himself how fucking meaningful house is to him.
and then there's just the rest of the episode, with quotes such as:
Wilson: It's exactly what you would do.
House: I'm me. You're you.
Wilson: ...And a table is a table.
House: And chemo is poison. And double chemo is double poison. And I can handle it when things go wrong. You *can't*. And things could go very *very* wrong.
Wilson: I can handle it.
(that is house his way of trying to protect wilson from himself, which in previous episodes just really, really seems to be one of house his major love languages)
and the most important:
Wilson: The operation is in 2 hours. I'd like you to be there.
House: [Long pause] No.
Wilson: What? Why?
House: Because if you die, I'm alone.
They love each other. They are so dependent on one another. House is so open with his feelings in S6. I'm going to throw up, actually.
and then just a bonus:
House: Is it that time of year again?... He's a self-important jerk.
Wilson: He's my friend.
House: He's a self-important jerk!
Wilson: Seems to be what I'm attracted to.
I love them, your honour.
