why is it that when a story come out about poor conditions or lack of player benefits in wsl, a lot of their fans are like trying to prove its not that bad and that nwsl is worse… like maybe put that energy towards advocating for better things for your players expressing your outrage to your clubs? and not like brushing it off as if that will make your league look better??

I’d like to say that no one should be tagging any players in these posts. My opinion on her clarification is that she didn’t clarify anything at all, really. She didn’t apologise. Even if she doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong, she should have apologised regardless. Even if she was misrepresented by the journalist, what was included was a direct quote and should have been apologised for. Also, her saying “don’t believe everything you read” at the end was… distasteful.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t think she is racist, she’s just stupid and has little experience being in the spotlight (this is not an excuse, it’s an observation). What she said was racist but it stemmed from intentional ignorance (aka the “it doesn’t affect me so I don’t pay attention to it” mindset), not hate. This may seem crazy but I do think she recognises that there is a diversity problem, she just doesn’t see it as as big of a problem as it actually is because of her white privilege. And she does seem open to being educated, she already talked with Ian Wright about this topic, so I hope she changes and her eyes are opened.
