Jennifer rolled her eyes, “Of course you’re doing better than you think, I’d tell you if you weren’t. Trust me, I teach English, we’re great at critiquing things.” she snorted. Though if she were being honest she’d have more than a few things to say regarding Jeremy, but she had her own plans in mind for that brat, so why ruin the surprise? “Mr. Stilinski seemed the type to pop up in places where he shouldn’t.” she said wryly. After meeting the boy in the woods of all places she was convinced he had a nosey streak in him big enough to rival a detective. “Who is this Katherine girl? Because I’ve a few choices words and a stiletto heel to show her for doing that. So irresponsible! Ugh!” And she could have killed Jennifer’s latest curiosity, that would have made her very upset. “Students with taste? Now there is a surprise.” she chuckled, “Mr. McCall? Do you know him quite well? Such a sweet boy, he came to me the other day, wants some help catching up.” And she suspected he was some kind of supernatural related to both Derek and Ms Tate. Mr. Stilinski’s role as yet undetermined. She nodded, “Or in my case the year flies by and they’re out of the door to college or jobs.”
Jennifer frowned right back, “I dunno, hypnosis is a thing, I’ve seen Derren Brown.” And as far as magic went she’d seen much better than him. “Really? Carried your books and invited you to dinner and you think that’s not a date?” she asked in surprise. “See, ‘greet Elena for him’ that’s a weird way to say it, why not just say ‘tell Elena hi.’ I don’t like it. You’re not a ‘simple teacher’ you’re an intelligent and kind woman. And I don’t like where this had come from, not one bit.” she paused for a moment before grinning, a devilish grin full of mischief. “In fact, you said he invited you to dinner right? Well, bring Jeremy and Elena along…. And I’ll be there, to supervise.” she added giving Jennifer a look that dared her to argue her decision. “Once I know he’s just a guy you fancy,” Or an original Vampire you’ve been compelled by, “Then I’ll let it drop. Until then, there’s a killer on the loose and I’m looking out for you. For all of you. We’ll get you a new dress and try the tag trick then.”
Tumblr media
Jenna started laughing and she tightened her grip around the steering wheel. "I wouldn't want a friend lying to me anyway." She raised her eyebrows a little and thought about all those times she had not entirely told her friend, or even Jeremy and Elena the full truth. "And for sure not about my parent skills." She quickly added. I get the impression that a lot of people in this town have that bad habit." She had not met Stiles that often, but she did know that she had found a few too many students at a few too many places. "Katherine Pierce looks scarily much like Elena when it comes to her looks, but she's nothing like Elena when it comes to her personality." Jenna cocked her head and thought about Katherine for a moment. "Not knowing her sounds actually pretty good." Jenna let out a deep sigh and for a moment she concentrated on the road again. "Scott seems to be a little weird, but he really wants to work on catching up. I might get to like him and Malia could us a sweet boy taking her under his wing." Even though Malia's schoolresults had bettered a little thanks to her grade for rescuing Jenna from a broken leg, she was far from there yet. "Before you know it they return as teachers." Jenna winked and shook her head.
Jenna chuckled and she couldn't hide her disbelief. "I wouldn't let anyone hypnose myself. I'm already weird enough all by myself." Jenna smiled and she tried to take it lightly. She was not the kind of person to somehow believe all those cheap tricks that people tried to get away with on television. "And no, it's not a date, really. He was just being a gentleman." Jenna shrugged her shoulders and she rolled her eyes. "And it's nothing weird, really. I don't even know why you would think that." Although there was a small part of her wondering if maybe Jennifer was right and if maybe something weird had happened. Especially since Damon had already acted weird about it too. "He invited Jeremy and Elena too. It was never just the two of us. And we really don't need a baby sitter. Why does everything think Klaus is such a bad man?" Jenna raised her eyebrows a little and the light mood she had tried to keep was slowly slipping through her fingers. "You really think that Klaus can be the killer on the loose?" Jenna raised her eyebrows. She had actually not given the killer on the loose much thought. Most crimes happened within a relationship of any kind. She took a deep breath and pushed the memory away again. "And I don't need a new dress for a dinner with Klaus and Jeremy and Elena."

dark-salvatore:
“Warning noted.”, he winked. Still not scared. Until the guy would start shooting with wooden bullets, he wasn’t worried about a thing. The standard weapons dealer did not deal in wooden bullets, so he’d be fine. Besides… He was not going to grade these essays, not even with his initial. He started laughing. “You could make something very special out of that J, you know. Unique, you know the whole drill.” He was just teasing her while they were slowly walking in the direction of where she needed to go. But something was wrong. He knew what they had talked about it the last time we spoke and Klaus had most definitely come up in that conversation. “Should I start recording you? Because I know I’m not stupid and I know what you’ve said.” Admire him, a great model for Jeremy. That reeked of Klaus putting those thoughts in his head. And he’d probably find it amusing to play with Elena’s aunt and brother this way. He didn’t like it one bit. “There’s more some man can want from you than just marry you, Jenna. I might be mistaken…” But he wasn’t. He had seen Klaus’ true face, Jenna hadn’t. “… but he doesn’t mean well. Really. He’ll gain something, he always does. And he’ll make sure you loose something. But that’s probably something you don’t want to hear right n ow, do you?”
Tumblr media
"I totally could." Jenna nodded and she crossed her arms over her chest. "But the school system that has to deal with the grades won't appreciate my creativity, which means that I will mess up the entire system, which means that a lot of people, most likely the nerd who prefers to have nothing to do all day, will have to pay the prices for my creativity." Jenna smiled and winked before she uncrossed her arms again, the smile on her face slowly fading. "I think it's impossible that I've said something that I don't even think." Jenna shrugged her shoulders and shook her head. "I'm sorry, but Klaus is actually a nice guy. He helped me carrying my books and he invited me and Elena over for dinner." She licked her lips for a moment. "And what can someone like him possibly want from someone like me then? I don't have money or wealth or anything worth something, apart from Jeremy and Elena. And although I wouldn't give them up for the world, I don't think he wants to have them." Jenna raised her eyebrows. "Jeremy needs a male role model in his life and I think that Klaus would be perfect."

Jenifer laughed a little, “Hey, don’t do that. Keeping them alive if like the number one goal of a guardian right?” And she knew a great deal about guardians. “You’re doing better than you think.” Jennifer kept her gaze on Jenna, occasionally looking back at the road, “Oh well, I’m pleased I made that good of an impression.” she said lightly, secretly rather pleased at how well she’d inserted herself into the others life. “Missed you almost- oh my God! How the hell did that happen?” she asked, perfect shock ringing from her words. Had Jenna been involved in the supernatural before? Was that a part of her near-death? “Ahh! Now that’s the way to do it!” she laughed again, “It winds them up like nothing else. It’s really quite funny.” She’d had a little entertainment out of teasing Mr. Stilinski not too long ago, there was something to be said for the ‘little things’ in life. Though really, a woman of her appetites always required something more. Or else she wouldn’t be where she was. “Alright, lemme hear them.” she said, leaning her head back in her seat and waiting “Not gonna argue with any part of that first one.” she said smugly, “I’m now addicted to several TV shows because of them.” Honestly she spent too much of her limited free time watching television, but then… it was entertaining. “Well, there ya go. See? Now don’t you feel a little better about things?” Though really, it she’d been through a lot it sounded like. And that made her very interesting to Jennifer. “Give it time, and it probably will. Instinct can only take you so far after all.”
The same words, over and over. Now Jenna may not have been the most eloquent woman she’d met, but really there was something suspicious here. It was as if she’d been told to say those words and only those…. Oh that little blood-hound. He’d compelled her, hadn’t he? Well, two could play at that game, and with her newfound strength in magic she was damned sure she could give that Mikaelson’s influence the boot. Actually, if the pros outweighed the cons it would be a good test of her magic. “Jenna, hon, you’ve said only those things. It’s like you’re programmed. C’mon, tell me something else out this guy, you’ve never mentioned him before and now he seems just so perfect. As your friend and nosey colleague, I’m not buying it.” She waited to see what response that would get, “Hey, I’ve been hurt to.” For the purposes of this conversation, “Dosen’t mean you just give up. Meh, buy it hide the tag, wear it then return it.” she said simply, “Ah, the start of many a porno.” she cackled.
Tumblr media
Jenna raised her eyebrows and let out a deep breath. "I hope I'm doing better than I think, because I don't think very highly of my own guardian skills." She grinned a little. She knew that she had a lot to learn and that she also made a lot of mistakes, but she did hope that maybe she was really making things worse than they truly were. "I don't know. I went to the basement of the church because I was looking for Stiles Stilinski, who had gone missing once again, and when I was in there, where he really happened to be, Katherine locked the door behind us for fun, I think." Jenna paused for a moment. "I don't think she knew we were going to drown." She shrugged her shoulders. At least she hoped Katherine had not known. "Good!" Jenna smiled and she looked at Jennifer for a short moment. "I've heard that some students actually do have good series to watch. You should ask Scott about it." Jenna raised her eyebrows for a moment. "And I feel much better." Jenna's smile brightened and the light turned green again. "That's the problem with kids. You don't have time. before you know they're adults and living in a different house."
Jenna frowned her eyebrows and the smile on her face faded. "Programmed? How the hell does someone program someone else's brain? He was nice to me. He helped me carrying my books and he invited me for dinner. On top of that he told me to greet Elena from him." She shrugged her shoulders. "From someone like him, who doesn't need to do anything for a simple teacher like me, that's quite amazing, don't you think?" Jenna paused for a moment. "I simply admire him and I really think he'd be a great example for Jeremy and good company for Elena." Jenna licked her lips. "He's...quite intelligent?" She hesitated a little and then she shook her head. "Wait, are you really making me prove that I'm not programmed?" She rolled her eyes in disbelief. "And trust me, I'm just hurt...." She just didn't want to talk about how her falling for bad boys had gotten her best friend killed. "But I'm gonna remember that tip about hiding the tag, just in case."

“Maybe,” Elena grinned sheepishly as she ducked her head, moving around her Aunt as if scuffling about would somehow make the place look much more neat and presentable than it was. If anything, she could point out that moving back home would make doing laundry, and therefore having clean scrubs, so much easier.  “I don’t know,” her voice was quiet, but there was no denying the honesty. “Things change and…she’s gone now.” And the Elena standing there could only question why she had ever thought it was a possibility that she would be vampire free- danger free- in her life. Distracted by the thought, the brunette could have almost convinced herself that she hadn’t heard the name Jenna had said, the text book she had picked up to move slipping through her fingers and hitting the ground with a loud thud.
“No.”
Tumblr media
She should have done better, maybe at least had pretended to not be so immediately opposed, but…. She had been so stupid. “He’s not nice…He’s,” Elena paused moving to grab her Aunt’s hands. How was she supposed to explain this? Klaus is a hybrid, a vampire and werewolf who is going to possibly kill you and Jeremy before me? “He’s an ass. A bigger ass than Damon.”
Tumblr media
Not even close.
A smile spread across Jenna's face, but she tried to keep herself from wrapping her arms around Elena and pressing the girl to her chest. It was one thing that Elena thought about passing by more often and staying with her and Jeremy more often, that didn't mean she wanted the whole motherly caring package that Jenna would actually prefer to offer, even though she had no idea what was exactly in there. "You know that if you ever want to talk about something, I'm a very good listener and can make tea with cookies on top of it?" Jenna raised her eyebrows and spoke softly. "Whatever has changed and why it has changed, you can always tell me." She licked her lips. "If you want to, that is. You don't have to." But Jenna would like it. She would like it a lot.
Jenna frowned her eyebrows when Elena's reaction to Klaus' invitation was not exactly what she had expected and hoped for. "Look, I'm not allowed to tell you, but Damon is not as big of an ass as he pretends to be." Jenna curled her lips up into a smile and thought about Damon saving her from an aggressive sign during the earthquake. "And Klaus is galant and nice." Jenna shook her head. "It's a true compliment when someone likes him invites people like us over for dinner. He's someone we should look up to, not someone we talk bad about."

dark-salvatore:
He started to laugh when Jenna was trying to make him scared of that father. He just shrugged it off. “Still not that intimidated. Most of those types are all talk and no play, so… I’ve met them.” Selling weapons didn’t make someone dangerous, or he should have been frightened a lot more often than he was now. “And hey… there’s nothing wrong with my initial, just because your school system considers it a fail.” He smirked, before he got worried about Jenna defending Klaus. He had no idea what the Original had done, just worked his charm or something more invading, but it wasn’t good. “Come on… don’t tell me I’ve got to record our conversations because you’re getting that old that you’re forgetting everything you’re saying.” He did start to laugh about her suggestion about Jeremy. If it wouldn’t mean getting someone else close to Elena in Klaus’ influence, he might even want to see that. Maybe Klaus would be so annoyed with the kid he’d safe Damon the trouble of wringing his neck. “Never considered the opportunity he’s playing you? I’ve met the guy and trust me. He’s not nice. He’s even less nice than I am and that says something.”
Tumblr media
Jenna laughed along, but she raised her eyebrows a little. "At least you can't say that I haven't warned you in case he does happen to be one of those people knowing how to use the weapons he's selling." She lifted her hands up in the air and cocked her head. "And I'm not the one who created that whole grading system. You're still lucky. A J doesn't even mean anything anymore." She grinned and she crossed her arms over her chest when she wondered what would happen if she would all of a sudden start grading papers with a J. Probably it wouldn't take long before she would get fired and locked up in an asylum of some sorts. "I don't trust my own memory for a bit, but I really can't believe that I would have told you that I don't like Klaus when I actually admire him and think he'd be a great role model for Jeremy." Jenna's smile faded and she shook her head while she rolled her eyes. "And why would someone like him play me? I don't think he's interested in marrying me. I think he has more money than I have and he was the one inviting us over dinner and carrying my books when I couldn't. I don't really see what he gains from all of this?"

courageouscami:
She couldn’t help a snort at Jenna’s deadpan remark about the shock her students would likely receive upon learning that their teacher was a human. “Don’t ruin the illusion, Jenna, Being an alien is so much cooler in this day and age. Being an alien who lives at school - doubly so.” She teased, remembering the conversation she’d had with Charlie about that particularly predominant belief in younger students. The bartender nodded duly as Jenna recapped the bars she’d suggested. “Yep! L’Orage for when you want to charm a millionaire out of his credit card, Pat O’Brien’s for better days, Lafitte’s if you’re a daredevil and plain old Half-Moon if you’re feeling nostalgic.”
“Seriously though, I remember you saying you were into history and the kinds of old, creepy stories that hint at ghosts…” Cami continued, leaning one hip against the counter, “Does that mean you’re a cynic? Or a believer?” It was a question she’d forgotten to ask the school teacher the last time they’d met in the library. An oversight on her part, given how intrigued she was about other people’s beliefs. “Either way, you must be something else if you’re shacking up in a haunted house… I don’t believe in ghosts and yet I think that’d be a step too far, even for me.” So a sleepover was one thing, but the invitation for a girl’s night out at Half-Moon both touched and surprised her. “Seriously?? Better question is would I ever decline? If you’re the one offering, I’ll be there!” The blonde laughed appreciatively. “If I can rope you into a karaoke session on a future Thursday - it’ll be a double-date deal.”
Tumblr media
Jenna grinned and she raised her eyebrows. "You have to admit that I'm prettier than the average alien you've ever encountered." She cocked her head a little. Somehow it was strange to remember that so many years ago she had been the student considering her teachers total aliens. It was also strange to remember that there had been a time she had believed that she would never become a boring, settled, hard working adult. Actually, she doubted if she had managed to become a boring, settled, hard working adult. If she and Jennifer ended up in bars more often, she might lose all those responsibility points again.
"Yes, I am." Jenna's smiled faded a little and she frowned her eyebrows when Cami wondered if she was a cynic or a believer. "Neither?" She licked her lips while she answered that question. "I just love those stories and the old buildings and the old books and all those mysteries that no one ever solved." She shrugged her shoulders. "It's not really a matter of thinking it's all nonsense or believing it's all true. It's more a matter of passing time and doing something I think is fun." She thought about the journal she had found and all the weird messages in there. "Why? Are you one of both?" Jenna wondered for a moment. "And don't worry, there is really nothing weird in the house. Just rumors and stories and I happen to like those." She smiled again. "And well, let's say that's a double date then!"

“Oh nah, I’m gonna be going against you every step of the way,” she deadpanned, only to break out laughing moments later, “Course I’m rooting for you, ya dummy. After all, I don’t exactly have many friends around here. I’ve gotta work to keep the ones I have.” she told her. After all, it seemed the adults around here were a lot less suspicious than the students. Between Tate and Stilinski she was getting rather annoyed at treading so carefully, really it would be so much easier to beguile them in some more magical way, but she couldn’t risk it coming back to her. “Eh, well that’s good to know. I’d hate for all the really interesting disasters to have come and gone before I got to see them.” she teased, “Students always try to annoy teachers. The trick is to annoy them back.“ she chuckled. She suspected there was a great more to be heard about this city, and indeed Jenna’s history, but she had to be careful about approaching that one. It wouldn’t do to give too much away by asking the wrong sort of probing questions. “See, you’ve just gotta try looking for the positives in life. They’re there if you look hard enough.“ She grinned, “I’m here, so there’s a positive right in front of you if I do say so myself.” she added with a wink. “I guess, they’re probably been honed over centuries of mothers looking after their kids. Almost like, the coding of a human being.” she mused, though odds were her code skipped that section, she had no desire to have, or be near, children. “Exactly! And if all else fails we’ll fake it till we make it.”
Jennifer’s eyes narrowed while the other’s gaze was averted, yes… Something was beginning to feel off about the way Jenna was talking about this Klaus, and she was suspicious of why. “You know, that’s basically what you said to me last time,“ she said lightly, “What else is it about him that has you so… happy he’s about?“ If this Mikaelson was a vampire and had decided to mess with Jenna in any way she wanted to know why. And break his hold on her little curiosity. No one else was going to interfere with Jennifer’s plans. She raised an eyebrow, “Really?” she asked, “Cause if the guys as charming and kind and as good an example as you say then it’s a wonder why you don’t seem to like him.” she suggested slyly. If she was able to keep probing little by little, perhaps that would get her somewhere, or at least confirm her suspicious, “Next left by the way.“ she added, “There never needs to be an excuse for a new dress of a wingman’s services.” she told the other with certainty. “Well, maybe. But wouldn’t it be nice to just sit there till dinner comes to you and then, ‘snap’ you have your dinner.” she chuckled.
Tumblr media
Jenna smiled and she shrugged her shoulders. "I'm not sure if I would be rooting for me. After all, so far my success rate doesn't go any further than keeping them alive." She turned her head to the side for a very quick look though. "And don't worry about losing me. I don't have that many friends either and I happen to like you, so I was planning on keeping you." She meant every word and then she focussed on the road again. "You only missed me almost drowning." Jenna grinned, shaking her head because she still couldn't believe that had actually happened. "And I promise that I annoyed them back by being completely nice to them. They didn't seem not so amused by that." She grinned again and thought about Malia and how uncomfortable she had been while being around the teacher in the church with nowhere else to go. "And I can very well name a few very positive things in my life currently." Jenna cocked her head and turned a corner. "One, I'm going to have drinks with an amazing girl tonight. Two, they invented Netflix. Three, this weekend I'm going to do another ghost tour in this town. Four, the two kids I'm raising are still alive. Five, even though I almost drowned and broke my leg because the library sign ended on it during an earthquake, I'm still alive too." Jenna raised her eyebrows a little and then she thought about her mother instinct. "Let's hope that that part of my coding does something more useful than just keeping them alive."
Jenna frowned her eyebrows and took a deep breath. "Isn't that enough? He's charming and nice. He's someone to look up to. He's a great example for Jeremy and Elena." She knew that she was repeating the same words over and over, but it was the truth. "I think that's already a pretty impressive list." She cocked her head and licked her lips. "I like him as a person, not as possible candidate to marry. I'm not in love with him. I just think he's an amazing person." She repeated the same word again and again and again. There weren't other words to use and she didn't know why. Jenna turned a corner to the left and grinned. "I don't do falling in love anymore. I did it. It went wrong and I learned my lesson." She swallowed and she raised her eyebrows. "And it's not like this teacher loan's actually leave much room for new dresses to wear." Jenna rolled her eyes. "It would be even more interesting when a hot guy comes to deliver said dinner."

“It’s ok. I get it. We all have our secrets.” He had more than an average men his age, after all. There was a whole part of his life he hoped he would never be able to tell Jenna about. If she could live out her days without ever finding out there was a supernatural world existing next to hers, he would be glad. “I’m all for keeping the cops away, but with your experiences, I guess you’ll be even more for that. It can scare him though, so I wouldn’t rule it out for good.” He’d just have to scare him just as hard, without any official consequences. He just doubted it would be as easy as intimidating Scott, unfortunately. “At some point he’ll just have to. I hope a wake up call can do that for him.” Jenna might have left him too much to his own worries to actually give him the shock he needed. “I’m going to try, really. I can promise you that much. I just can’t guarantee any results. That will be totally up to him.”
Tumblr media
Jenna nodded and for a moment she lost herself in her own thoughts. Was this was being a parent meant? Worrying all the time? Worrying about the kids? Worrying if you were doing the right thing? Worrying if you were messing up? She took a deep breath and then she stared at the clock. "O damn it..." She cursed and grabbed her purse. "I'm late. Hopelessly late. Once more not a great example for all those kids." She curled her lips up into a smile. "But thank you for your offer to help me. I'm going to see if we can arrange some run in between you and Jeremy." She looked for her car key. "I'm sure we'll see each other around!"

“You never know…”, he smirked. If someone heard about what he had done during the earthquake, especially if that someone was Stefan or Elena, he wouldn’t hear the end of it. They would think he had a heart, they would want to see more of it and that was the last thing he wanted. The only reason he was keeping an eye on Jenna was because of the Elena-Klaus situation. And the fact that she looked exactly like the woman who tortured him in the past. That’s all. “Nope. Can’t say I have. My social network doesn’t include overeager parents of high school kids.” He chuckled. “And now I should become afraid?”, laughed with a raised eyebrow. He wasn’t… there wasn’t a lot that some human could do to intimidate him and he doubted that this Argent guy was any different. He just nodded when Jenna suspected there wouldn’t be more disasters. He wished he could believe that, but after speaking to Bonnie and Marcel… he wasn’t so sure about that anymore. “Wait… we are talking about the same guy here? Klaus Mikaelson? Blond? English accent? Acts like he’s too good for this world? That Klaus?” This was most definitely not good, but that was something Jenna couldn’t know. Yet. “Just a few weeks ago you thought his interest in Elena was even more unhealthy than mine, so…” It was kind of a big change. “I’m not sure if I agree with you. I’d watch out with him, really…”
Tumblr media
Jenna shook her head, but the smile on her lips didn't fade. Even though she and Damon had not exactly start out on the best terms, she had to admit that the last couple of months he had managed to surprise her, in a good way. She had never thought he would have those hidden hero abilities, but here they were, fully displayed when he saved a simple teacher from a broken leg during an earthquake. Okay, probably he had just saved her because she was Elena's aunt and Damon DID have this unhealthy stalking habit when it came to her, but not even heroes could be perfect, right? "He sells weapons." Jenna cocked her head. "So I assume that he knows how to use one when someone grades a great essay his daughter had write with a D, just because he likes the first letter of his name." Jenna winked and she took a deep breath. "Me? I told you that he was worse than you? I don't think so." Jenna shook her head. "Klaus is one of the nicest guys I've met in this town. I think he's actually someone to look up to. Maybe he can help me get Jeremy on the right path again." She shrugged her shoulders. "If someone likes him invites us over for dinner, who am I to refuse? Especially if he's so kind to me?"

“Uh, I’m pretty sure you could walk around with a bag over your head and still look fantastic.”

Bonnie defended from a few rows down. Once Jenna looked over, there was no hiding the smile on her lips. She hadn’t seen the head of the Gilbert household in ages.
Granted, it was a bit harder. Elena had been living in the dorms up until recently, and Jeremy and her didn’t spend all that much time together either…The fact that she saw her long-time, non-blood related relative at a bar of all places might have put her in some trouble, were it anyone but ‘Aunt’ Jenna.
"You should have seen me when I was 23." Jenna winked and she straightened her back while she stared at the microphone. Actually, she had not been too sure about whether or not she was going to sing. She had mostly come here to keep Cami some company and to meet a few people who were most likely not Elena and Jeremy, although it seemed that at least Elena was not that keen on avoiding her anymore. That was something she would like to call progress.

“No, it’s okay. Really.” Not wanting to give her Aunt any more time to travel down that particular route, Elena jumped in quickly to reassure Jenna that the visit was more than welcome. So much so, that it had been on her mind almost daily. “I actually was wondering if it would be okay with you, if I stayed by you and Jeremy a lot more than I do now.” The initial thought had been to keep an eye on Jeremy, while affording herself a bit more protection given how quickly Rebekah Mikaelson had found her, but with her family here…Quite literally standing in front of her, Elena couldn’t remember why she had been so determined to stay away in the first place. Shooting Jenna a more than sheepish smile as she moved to clear off some of the dirty coffee mugs from the small table/desk that had been situated against the wall in case she wanted to sit down, Elena paused with a small frown. “What message?”
Tumblr media
Jenna blinked a few times and then she frowned her eyebrows before she shook her head. "Did I hear that right? You want to stay with me a lot more often than you do right now?" She crossed her arms over her chest and an amused smile played around her lips. "What happened to the girl that was even a little bit angry that I happened to accidentally find a job here too?" She cocked her head slightly, but she was not going to complain too much about it either. After all, she actually liked having Elena and Jeremy around and if Elena would come over more often, even better. "I have a message from Klaus." Jenna shrugged her shoulders. "He wanted me to greet you and he invites the three of us over for dinner. I think it's really nice, actually."

“And I take it it’s too personal to tell me. That’s ok. We all have those stories… it’s a pity you weren’t there though… I loved that age. They’re still so trusting instead of questioning every decision you’re making. If you can handle the horde of why questions, of course.”, he added with a laugh. He wouldn’t ask further, If it was a story she wanted to tell one day, she would do it out of her own accord. He shrugged. “Cops might work to scare him, but that’s something that will be registered. It might be an option if my lecture won’t work though. You always need the possibility to scale up.” He nodded. “He’s the one who has to stand up for himself eventually. That doesn’t mean we can’t push him in the right direction.” He was pretty sure he would have been kicked back to his senses if he had acted like this after his mother’s death, but his upbringing hadn’t exactly been standard. And not something he would recommend to others, even when it had brought him where he needed to be. “I don’t do gentle very well. Not in situations like these.” He chuckled. “Maybe that’s the problem… he’s trying too hard. I just can’t shake the feeling that there’s something off with him. And my gut feeling is often right.”

"Well, you're obviously nice and such, but I haven't really told that story to anybody and I don't think I want to change that right now." She licked her lips and took a deep breath. "And I'm really sorry that I missed it too, but I've got only myself to blame and no one else." Jenna rolled her eyes and she thought about all the stories Miranda had told her, all the stories Elena had told her. Even though Jeremy was maybe not at his very best lately, she was still curious how he had been as a little boy and which why questions he would have asked her. "Cops will be the very last option we try out." Jenna shook her head. "I know how they can be and how easily they judge and I don't want him to go through that unless we really don't have any other choice." She took a deep breath, her chest moving up and down. "And I hope that somehow he finds the courage in him to choose yes and to start living again." She exhaled, closing her eyes for a short moment. "And I've tried gently with him and I know for sure that it doesn't work." She squeezed her eyes a little. She always tried to imagine if something would make it better or worse, but somehow she started to get the feeling she had nothing to lose anymore. "I'm sure that if something is off, I'll be the last one he tells about it. I hope you have more luck."

dark-salvatore:
“Shh… they were a secret, remember?”, he laughed when she mentioned his non existant hero status. “And I can handle a few angry parents, trust me. I’ve had worse.” They couldn’t be as bad as angry vampires, Originals or people trying to dissect him while he was still alive. He had lived through that. “Yeah, me too. That whole earthquake thing was scary enough.” And if Bonnie was right, fire would be the next one. That would even be terrifying for him. An earthquake couldn’t kill him. Fire was a completely different story. He had almost missed the next thing she said, so wanting to make small talk and being convinced that all was well. “Wait, what? Klaus? Elena? Dinner?” He needed to recap it to make sure it wasn’t some story he had made up in his mind. “What’s happened since the last time when you found him an even bigger creep than I was?” Klaus? Caring about them? Jenna had to be kidding. Or Klaus had gotten to her somehow…
Tumblr media
Jenna grinned. "You know about them, I know about them and I don't think anyone will believe this conversation to be interesting enough to eavesdrop." She rolled her eyes and she tucked a strand of hair behind her ears. "You clearly haven't met Chris Argent yet." Jenna brightened her smile and she thought about the handsome man. "He sells weapons." She had to fight the urge to place a hand on Damon's shoulder, but she couldn't help the glimmer in her eyes. "The earthquake, the flood. Luckily the odds that another disaster might happen soon is close to zero, not that I have ever been good at statistics." But she had to hold on to something and if statistics said something that gave her hope, she was totally willing to hold onto that. "Yes?" Jenna cocked her head. "Klaus was so kind to invite us and who am I to turn his offer down?" She shrugged her shoulders and raised her eyebrows. "And why would I think that Klaus is creepy? He's actually a very nice gentleman and there should be more people like him in town."

The smile on Jenna’s lips struggled to bloom, and more still to reach her eyes. Cami took note of it and decided to tread carefully. “Not sure I’ve met any Jeremys or Elenas of note in New Orleans, but regardless, my lips are sealed.” She assured the school-teacher, “Bartender’s honour.” No more questions - curious as she was. Instead, she let the tables turn and consigned herself to be the one doing the answering for now.
“Other bars without the bad boys, huh?… There’s L’Orage a couple of streets up. Super classy French bar - might even run into some well-to-do millionaire with money to burn on a menu you couldn’t pronounce. The riff-raff tends to get filtered out at the door.” Which wasn’t to say the rich and affluent couldn’t be just as ‘bad’ as Jenna feared… At most, they just dressed it up a little better. “Pat O’Brien’s has a wicked fountain and some tasty Hurricane cocktails… Though after the last few disasters we’ve had in town I wouldn’t blame you for wanting to stay away from that one. Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop is great if you want a blast to the past and a potential run-in with a ghost. The place is supposedly haunted. They give tours and all! But my personal favourite’s called Half-Moon. It’s this old-comfort bar on St. Mary’s Street, about half an hour from here if you’re walking… Totally worth it. It’s quiet enough, you can lounge around or play pool and the food’s not half-bad. But if you’re into Karaoke - stick with us. Rousseau’s is the place to be on a Thursday Night.” She assured her.

Jenna nodded at the pretty bartender and she let out a relieved sigh when Cami didn't ask any more questions about her experience with bad boys. She was here in New Orleans to not only forget it, but to also get over it. She was a different woman nowadays, she was no longer the girl she had been and even more, she was now the responsible legal guardian of two motherless children. "Thank you, although I do think they might like you, when you ever meet them." Jenna cocked her head and smiled, this time a more real smile.
"And preferably without students either, just in case someone is shocked that their teacher turns out to be only human too." Jenna rolled her eyes and she took another sip from her drink. "So, L'Orage when I run out of money and want to marry a millionaire." She lightened her voice and cocked her head. "And I'll just follow your advice and stay away from Pat O'Brien then." She tried to memorize all the names, even though her memory was not what it used to be anymore. "And I'm not afraid of haunted houses. They say that about mine too and I'm doing perfectly fine. I might even want to try out Lafitte's Blacksmith shop then." Jenna liked how Cami talked, how she knew all those details and recommended and warned in the same sentence. "So, does that mean that if I'd invite you for a girl's night and Half-Moon, you would be in?" Jenna curled her lips up into a smile. "And I promise we'll not go on a Thursday night, although there is no way you'll get me to sing."

“You weren’t around when they were kids? Not even as an aunt?” Surprising… even with how busy they were, Kate had managed to drop by to see Allison from time to time. More Allison than him, he suspected, but he couldn’t exactly blame her. “You’re not that good with little kids? Looking back that was a whole lot easier than this age, I have to admit.” The more the kids grew, the more the dangers for them grew as well. “Ditching class, substance abuse. He’s lucky he doesn’t have the cops involved yet.” Which probably would be the next step. A break in, a robbery to get money for drugs. They should try to prevent that. “That sounds harsh… and I get that losing both of your parents must be a shock… I lost my mother when I wasn’t a bit younger than Jeremy is now. It just doesn’t excuse all your behavior afterwards.” It had been around that time that Gerard had taught him how to compartimentalize his feelings. How he couldn’t let his grieve get in the way of what he had to do. “I’ll keep him in once piece. I don’t promise to go gentle on him though, so you might get him back slightly shaken.” No physical harm though. He didn’t believe that hurting children taught them anything. “Same for Allison. And Scott doesn’t even come to pretty good, so he’s out of the question.”
Tumblr media
"It's a very long story and I haven't even told them." Jenna shrugged her shoulders and avoided his glance. She was not planning on telling him either and she was even doubting if she should tell anyone. After all, she was here to forget that haunting part of her life and having to talk about it was not exactly helping. "I would have loved to be there for them when they had been younger..." Jenna hated it that she had missed it, but she knew that she was the only one to be blamed for it. She had been the one inviting a criminal into her house, after all. "I'm trying to keep the cops away from him, but maybe they would be a wake up call..." She took a deep breath and thought about her own meetings with the police, which had never really been pleasant at all. "We're the only ones to blame for our mistakes." Jenna sounded a little absentminded. "But I do understand that life doesn't exactly look promising to him at the moment." He had lost his parents and Jenna wondered if there were also things she didn't know. Things he had never talked about with her. "I don't know if he needs gentle. I'm trying all options, I think." Jenna curled her lips up into a slight smile, trying to lighten the mood a little. "Poor Scott." Jenna shook her head and her smile turned into a laugh. "After trying to hard he's still not pretty good."

“I’m totally willing to pretend to read those papers for you, although I don’t think it’s fair.” He started grinning. “Although I’d rather take care of the A students. Must be fun to see them react on a D for once.” He had no plan whatsoever to really help her grade the papers, but if he had to scribble his initial on a few, he’d to that. No problem at all. He walked besides her in the direction she was going in. “Good. No earthquakes, no library signs attacking you, no creepy people hanging around Elena? Sounds good…” If that would mean that Klaus was taking a backseat in his threats, he was fine with that.

Jenna smiled back at Damon and shrugged her shoulders. "It seems that your new found hero skills have its limits then, damn it." She cocked her head and took a deep breath. "You might also have to deal with the protective urges of some parents. I knew a few bright students with parents you don't want to end up in a fight with." She thought about Chris Argent and how he would react to his daughter coming home with a D for a paper she deserved an A for. "I actually hope we are done with disasters for a while." She grinned. "And I hope Elena is doing fine too. I still have to visit her to tell her that Klaus wanted me to greet her. He also invited us for dinner and I don't know when he'll expect us, but I don't want to keep him waiting. It's already nice enough that he even cares about us."
