Teen and Childrens Therapy Books: 5 Things to Know
Teen and Children’s Therapy Books: 5 Things to Know https://www.goodtherapy.org/blog/therapy-books/ By Leo DeBroeck, LMHC, CMHS, MHP It seems throughout social media there are 1,001 different advertised self-help books filled with tips and tricks which claim that self-care cures mental illness. It does not. Lack of self-care is not the cause of a true clinical disorder and, therefore not the cure. Podcasts for Inquisitive Entrepreneurs
Podcasts for Inquisitive Entrepreneurs https://justineframularo.net/podcasts-for-inquisitive-entrepreneurs/ There are a lot of podcasts about entrepreneurship. There are a lot of podcasts in general. Finding the most beneficial podcasts can take a lot of time, trial, and error. Or, with the correct list, you can start listening to the podcasts that will make a difference. Here are a few beneficial podcasts for those interested entrepreneurs out there. The Tim Ferriss Show Tim is not only a leader in entrepreneurship but also in thought leadership. He has a real sense to him, showing a willingness to be vulnerable in his own life and to offer a specific raw side that few others can match. With over 6 million downloads, he speaks to many guests: actors, athletes, scientists, and (obviously) entrepreneurs. With a plethora of business tips and strategies and book recommendations, there are a few areas of life and business that aren’t covered here. Startup Stories – Mixergy Andrew Warner’s story about getting started in the education business and creating a podcast is an interesting one. Though there are not many big names as guests, there are a lot of interviews with successful entrepreneurs from lesser-known companies. The stories are fresh and don’t feel like the same ones you probably have heard somewhere else already. There are relevant topics and their corresponding answers to all of the questions that those looking to found a business may have. Entrepreneurs on Fire A daily interview-based podcast created by John Dumas, Entrepreneurs on Fire, is the motivation that you need to work towards those entrepreneurial goals. John has experience not only in business but also in the military, which leads to unique questions and provides some unique answers as to why businesses succeed. For those looking for a bit of a shot of inspiration and business talk, this is the best podcast out there. It can provide clarity and inspiration in a way that others do not. Finding and Releasing Your Trapped Emotions
Finding and Releasing Your Trapped Emotions https://justineframularo.com/finding-and-releasing-your-trapped-emotions/ There are plenty of negative and positive emotional experiences in life. We experience emotions and the chemical and emotional responses that come with them. From babies to adults, we all experience emotions differently. But if emotions can’t get out, they are called trapped emotions. They can inhibit our ability to express and release those emotions that we feel at that given time. Trapped Emotions Holding back, whether on purpose or through subconscious programming, can block a particular energy flow throughout the body. Maybe you don’t remember a specific event, but your body certainly does. These are what trapped emotions are. Those emotions can build over a lifetime, sometimes supporting behaviors that create more trapped emotions. Some people find that their “emotional baggage” is far more literal than they would have ever imagined. Signs of Trapped Emotions Those who have trapped emotions may not realize that they are dealing with trapped emotions. There are typically signs that you may be dealing with trapped or repressed emotions. The most common is the sabotaging of relationships, for instance. There is also a history of repeated mistakes that regularly lead to the same negative results. There is also the matter of talking to someone, such as a counselor, but that anxiety won’t disappear. Starting Early We can develop trapped emotions from an early age. When we are young, we are generally told to “stop crying” or use other means to cut off our expressions. This can continue into adolescence and then adulthood. Most of us genuinely never completely feel our emotions. The simple fact is that most people hold back or stifle emotions somehow. It is the “stiff upper lip” ideal. Emotional memory, however, can be stored in the body where it is undetectable. Those trapped emotions become integrated into self-perception and result in particular behaviors that sometimes have no explanation or seemingly no reason behind them. Addressing the youth mental health crisis: Practices for sharing and building power with youth leaders
Addressing the youth mental health crisis: Practices for sharing and building power with youth leaders https://www.mhanational.org/blog/sharing-and-building-power-with-youth-leaders Addressing the youth mental health crisis: Practices for sharing and building power with youth leaders MHA Admin Tue, 12/13/2022 - 12:10 December 16, 2022 by Kelly Davis, Associate Vice President of Peer and Youth Advocacy at Mental Health America It is time for action on the youth mental health crisis with youth as key leaders inside and outside formal institutions and organizations. Whether they are starting a collective, spearheading a campaign, or joining an advisory board, many young people are leading the way in mental health advocacy across the country. As organizations and institutions build and grow youth leadership programs, they need to be aware of their power and then share and build that power with the youth in their networks. For new and seasoned advocates, youth leadership programs provide an on-ramp to getting involved and a pathway for personal and professional growth. Young people spend their lives in a world where their perspectives are often dismissed, and they may have little to no choice or voice over the decisions that shape their lives. This means that youth programs need to acknowledge and shift this norm by integrating practices that: Support young people to cultivate power within themselves, Build power with mentors through supportive relationships, and Organize power to advance mental health through intentional intergenerational work. Each year, Mental Health America’s Young Mental Health Leaders Council (YMHLC) creates an annual report focused on the collective learning and knowledge of the group with spotlights on each member’s program and advocacy. This year’s report, Building Power to Build a Mentally Healthy World: Supporting and Advancing Youth Leadership, provides nine guiding recommendations to create leadership programs that support youth as people, in relationships, and as part of larger social change ecosystems. With so much need at the moment and growing concerns for the future of mental health, designing programs and communities that meet the needs of youth advocates will ensure that young people can thrive in the moment and for the long haul as mental health advocates. Entrepreneurs Its Time to Stop Letting Your Inbox Overwhelm You
Entrepreneurs, It’s Time to Stop Letting Your Inbox Overwhelm You https://justineframularo.net/entrepreneurs-its-time-to-stop-letting-your-inbox-overwhelm-you/ Email is meant to allow for more excellent communication, bring us together, and make us more efficient. But for most of us, it is a stressful tool that becomes overwhelming when it comes to email management. Though it is less intrusive than phone calls, the inbox can feel like an anchor, keeping you tethered to your phone or desk. But there are better ways to manage your inbox. Say No What starts as opening just one or two emails quickly turns into a dozen or more. When you take part in things like opting in and out of email exchanges, that one or two can turn into a lot more than that. Sometimes, unsubscribing and saying “no” can be the best way to manage the emails. Not everything requires your attention or even has anything to do with you. Opting out can be a great way to reduce the amount of email you see and the stress it creates. Keep the Important Stuff Together Labels and folders in the email are your best friend. It is a great way to keep things appropriately stored and filed for easier access later on because one of the most stressful things about email is losing track of an email and digging through your inbox to find it. By keeping things as organized as possible, you can have quicker access. Quicker access means faster responses, and faster responses suggest less time spent in your email. Block Off Time Okay, perhaps your email can’t go ignored. But instead of dealing with them throughout the day, carve out specific times to handle reading and responding to emails. It can help compartmentalize this task and make it feel less overwhelming. You can turn notifications off or create automatic replies until your designated time. Or you can mark your calendar so that co-workers know that you are not likely to respond to emails right away. In that time, you can focus on effectively answering everything you can. A Detailed Look at Traumatic Therapy
A Detailed Look at Traumatic Therapy https://justineframularo.com/a-detailed-look-at-traumatic-therapy/ It is estimated that nearly 70% of adults will go through a traumatic experience. Of those, 20% will develop a trauma-related response or even a mental health disorder stemming from those events. Emotions and memories stemming from those traumatic events can even be debilitating. It can lead to drug or alcohol abuse and symptoms of a mental health disorder. Different types of therapy can help treat trauma-related conditions. What Is Trauma Therapy? This is a form of therapy aimed at treating the mental health and emotional consequences that come with trauma. In a clinical sense, traumatic events are ones in which they witnessed someone being threatened or were threatened themselves. It is still unclear how or why people react the way they do to traumatic events. Some of it is temperament, genetics, and repeated exposure to those events. The Success Rates of Trauma Therapy Seeking help for a traumatic event can be a big step, which means finding the proper support to ensure the most significant possibility of success. Studies show that anywhere from 77% to 100% of patients who attend customized, regular trauma therapy sessions see a reduction in those symptoms. This is similar to studies on trauma patients given medication to treat those same symptoms. Therapy, of course, doesn’t come with the potentially addictive side effects. What Does Trauma Therapy Treat? There are a variety of things that trauma therapy has the capability of treating. Exposure to a traumatic event is the most common. This is usually either threatened or actual death, violence, or severe injury. Some avoid their thoughts and memories involved with a traumatic event. Trauma therapy can also deal with the negative impact of negative thoughts and emotions concerning a circumstance. These can manifest at any point, sometimes years after the original traumatic event. 5 Reasons to Give to Mental Health America
5 Reasons to Give to Mental Health America https://www.mhanational.org/blog/5-reasons-give-mental-health-america 5 Reasons to Give to Mental Health America MHA Admin Thu, 12/01/2022 - 12:51 December 02, 2022 by Jennifer Molina, Individual Giving Manager at Mental Health America I've worked in the nonprofit sector for over 15 years, and my family knows my passion for giving back. They always joke every holiday season by asking me, "So, who are we donating to this year?" They listen as I explain why they should donate to a specific charity. This year I've been grateful for Mental Health America and suggested they consider MHA when making their holiday donation. Yes, I am biased, but I genuinely believe in the organization I work for! Here are the five reasons everyone should consider donating to MHA this holiday season. 1. Fight stigma At Mental Health America, we choose to fight in the open – and everyone should feel like they can. Individuals are often afraid to speak out and get the help they need, fearing being mocked or called weak for seeking help. We are working hard to fight the stigma and educate people that mental health is health. Everyone has mental health, and your donation will help us further educate the public that they, too, can fight in the open. 2. Provide hope Earlier this year, when speaking with a donor, she reminded me that Mental Health America is hope for many. Hope is a powerful feeling. For so many of us, we hope for a future where mental health is treated as a priority. What better way to provide hope to the 1 in 5 individuals who will face a diagnosable mental health condition in their lifetime than donating and turning hope into help. 3. Support our top-notch public education resources This year I am particularly passionate about our public education resources. As I navigated my first year as a new parent, I often needed resources to check in on myself and watch for signs of postpartum depression. One of the best places to learn about maternal mental health was MHA’s public education resources. I read all our webpages filled with resources and even shared one of our amazing webinars with my husband, The New Dad Experience & Mental Health. They were invaluable for us and are for so many individuals seeking education on mental health. Public education is imperative, and with your support, we can reach even more individuals and cover more topics. 4. Screening saves lives Did you know it costs Mental Health America, on average, $1.25 to provide a free clinically validated screening? Now picture this: Your $20 donation could be what helps your loved one realize they need support. It's powerful to realize just how impactful your contribution is. In 2022, we screened over 5 million help-seeking individuals. Your donation can ensure we can continue to support every single one of them. 5. Giving makes you happy One of the best reasons to donate to Mental Health America is simply because giving feels good. Studies have shown giving can actually be good for our mental health – by donating and sharing gratitude, we release oxytocin. In fact, some health benefits associated with giving include increased self-esteem, lower stress levels, and greater happiness. My hope is that you find a way this holiday season to take care of your own mental health. And, if you are able, please consider providing that hope to others by donating to Mental Health America. via Mental Health America Blog https://www.mhanational.org/ December 01, 2022 at 12:51PM
