A dumb dev with a multipurpose blog. "Expert" on C, Embedded Linux, Software Engineering, InfoSec/Cyber Security, Computer Networks (TCP/IP & etc.). Interests include LockPicking, Weather, Bird Watching and Identification, Computing, Science of Cooking, Flags/Vexillology, License Plates, OSINT. My favorite computer games are Minecraft, Terraria, Sims City 4 (yes I'm aware of city skylines) and Sims 4. I am also very active. I love to swim; I do triathlons, and runs. I road bike and mountain bike. I also boulder. I enjoy hiking and camping. I also ski. I love learning, especially when I'm learning from someone who is extremely interested in the topic. I'd love to hear what interests you and why. Feel free to ask me questions or make post suggestions. I think I'm nicer than stack overflow. Open to commissions(?)

Shit's broken, shit's almost always broken. It's not my fault. I rarely break things, but when I do, I know I try my hardest to own up to it, fix it, and learn from my mistakes. Also if the *system* was a half decent system, it would catch most of my mistakes!
It's not my fault and I don't really care. There's plenty of great minds that work on this, or have worked on this, but in a whole, this is dog shit.
I don't feel appreciated, my work feels meaningless. I saw how unfair the system is. I got skipped over for a promotion, because my assigned work wasn't important enough to the right people, and my boss retired. This year I didn't get a raise and last year I only got a 1% increase. I still make more than some, who in my mind deserve more.
I don't try to work hard anymore, because it seems futile. Also it's hard to work when everything is broken and seemingly pitted against you. It's hard to work when you don't trust the water, and people are always loudly complaining about something.

Y'know it's bad when all the developers you work with are jumping ship in this job market.
Anyone hiring?

Whatever is going on with the internet archive is interesting. Admittedly, I have not kept up with the saga.
I really wonder if the DDoSers really thought that the US government was involved with the internet archive? What are the odds that they are actually acting for an organization that has a history that said organization wants erased? That's my baseless conspiracy anyways.

Does anyone actually work for Canonical? If you do, did you peak in highschool?
The fact that their job applications ask about highschool performance (ACT/SAT scores, class rank, etc) is absurd to me.
Companies are ruining their reputations with their poor hiring practices. This also includes Garmin - I can rant about them too. Ask me about my broken $500 watch. It lasted less than 2 years.

Oh boy I love being a developer so much.
North Korea is putting out fake developer jobs to trick devs into running malware on their computer.
There are way too many job scams out there. I wish I could just walk into a place of employment to get a job. Hahahah

So a friend shared this with me.
Someone wrote a program in C (with no libraries) to store a 60 second video. (Sorry it's a link to xitter)
It's gloriously obtuse.

Someone on reddit commented something along the lines of "it's not like anyone here is going to figure out where I live and stalk me".
I found their address, employer, job occupation, car makes, etc in 5 minutes. All I needed was a name.

A bird barked at me and nobody cares. It's not like a dog barked at me or a cat meowed or a bird chirped at me.a magpie (pica hudsonia) barked at me. Like a dog. I love magpies. They are not like mosquitoes. They are better than mosquitoes. I love magpies. I would get a tattoo of magpies. I love corvids. 🥹
Magpies are so cool and beautiful. I wish I was a magpie. They have really long tales too. Fun fact: there are only 4 bird species in North America whose tails are at least as long as the rest of their bodies. Black billed magpies, yellow billed magpies, scissor tailed fly catchers (state bird of Oklahoma and featured on Oklahoma Lisence plates), and fork tailed fly catchers.
