this speaking as a cis person. Nothing brings me more joy seeing people find gender euphoria in becoming a mediocre representation of humanity. And I mean that so genuinely. Local boy finds joy and fulfillment wearing a cargo shorts and t-shirt combo. Local girl has transitioned to look like someone's disheveled aunt, has never been happier. Local person experiences gender euphoria rocking the world's worst bowl-cut. Without a scap of irony, this shit makes me see the wonder and whimsy in just, being a human. An average, person going through their day-to-day, is a wondrous thing? That's amazing. And heteronormativity has stripped these experiences of their joy. Like you're right, wearing a basic girlypop skirt should make my heart sing. Why not? Why are these expressions lesser because they're normal? All this to say. Shoutout to all the basic bitches out there. Yes that polo shirt does make you look like a divorced golfer dad. Yes, that too is kind of a slay, now that I think of it.

I’m still thinking about that “how Mean Girls demonizes hyperfemininity” video, because I do think that sometimes movies signal a female character’s loathsomeness by making her wear a lot of pink and frills…but Mean Girls is not an example of that. The kind of thing I’m thinking about involves a female character who’s not conventionally super-hot. Maybe she’s the wrong age (an officious older lady, an annoying prepubescent child), or the wrong size, or just not quite as typically stunning as the leading lady. Her outfits/styling are feminine, but they’re out of date or unflattering or exaggerated to the point of campiness. Her “badness” usually isn’t the sexy kind; she’s shrill or bossy or overly ambitious (but not in a seductive way), or she sucks in a way that’s a bummer (like she’s a bigot or a child abuser). And maybe it’s about appealing to an “ewww, cooties” instinct, or signaling that this older woman is frivolous and immature and ridiculous, or it’s making a pretty specious point about vanity (even though the heroine usually has styled hair and significant makeup as well). But that’s not what Mean Girls is doing. The Plastics look like that because that’s what a Hot Girl looked like in 2004, and they’re in an environment where you’re brutally punished for deviating from that ideal.

This is perhaps a cruel feeling to have but I am made almost angry by people who “doubt their faith” just because a bad thing happened to them.

You always knew it happened! You are an adult! You know horrific accidents happen, innocent people are hurt, fawns die in the woods without witnesses! But as soon as it’s not “somebody” and it’s you, you stop believing in a loving God?

If you say “I can’t reconcile all the bad things that happen on Earth with a God who is good” I get it.

If you say “I can reconcile all the bad things that happen on Earth with a God who is good” I get it.

If you say “I can reconcile all the bad things that happen on Earth, but I can’t reconcile all the bad things that happen to me with a God who is good,” I dont understand. I’m uncomprehending.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.
