I’m writing a book.  I have the whole story line planned out and I have characters developed, I just have no motivation to write.  I really hope this blog helps me in my ability to write more frequently and with better fluency.  

Also writers block. I have a real problem with that, for example, now I have no clue what to write about so I am writing about not writing.  

This week I’m volunteering at the zoo again! I am super excited and can’t wait! Also, I get my permit on Friday so that is exciting as well!

My day was good I guess.  I scheduled two babysitting jobs and went to CrossFit this morning.  I cleaned out some crap from my room, which needed done desperately.  

I love giraffes.  So. Much.  I have so a lot of them.  The other day I realized I have too many.  That was a sad realization.  I have wanted giraffes at every birthday and Christmas.  I would bet money I had over 100. Today I cleared out quite a few.  

I took this as a sign of me growing up.  I’m realizing I have a lot of things that I don’t need and that serve no purpose.  I’ve always wanted to grow up, to have a family, my own house, a kick-ass job with great pay.  But now, I’m not sure I want to go so fast. I like being a teen with little responsibilities.  I’m not ready to pay taxes and wake up at 6 a.m. every morning to go to work. 

I want life to slow down, but it seems like I’m going down a hill. I keep going faster and faster and I can’t stop.

Today was a pretty boring day--I did some driver’s ed and we got peach trees! I don’t know why but we get the best peaches and I can’t wait for two more trees to produce those AMAZING fruits.  

I think my favorite way to have peaches is with brown sugar and ice cream, but I found a new recipe for stuffed peaches where you stuff them with ginger snaps! I cannot wait for fall (although I do not want to go to school anytime soon) to try out the new recipes.

When I grow up, I want to work at my local zoo.  I don’t know exactly what I want to do there, but I do know that I love animals (especially giraffes) and want to teach people some cool things (though I am NOT going to be a teacher--my lifestyle is too expensive for that kind of salary). 

This summer, I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to work at the zoo (even though I live two hours away).  I was chosen as one of 70 new teenage volunteers to help out around the zoo.  I am ecstatic to get this chance to prove my worth to the other employees and hopefully get a job when I grow up.  

This Saturday is my first day on duty.  I don’t know what I’m going to do, but I could potentially face paint, work on the petting zoo or the butterfly garden, give presentations, or greet guests and the front gate.  Again, I am so excited to have this chance to help people, and do something I love in the process.  

At the beginning of the school year, I had no idea what I wanted to be, but now I know exactly what I want to do, and will spend the rest of high school trying to accomplish this dream.

So a little story about my username: I am pretty small.  Like 5′2″ to be exact.  I live in a really small town in a state people confuse for another.  So I was trying to think of a smart username for this personal blog (I have another one @the-daily-new go check it out) and came up with just-a-small-towngirl.  My thought was you can think of it as Journey meant it--a girl from a small town--or you can think of it like a small girl who lives in a town.  

So yeah.  That’s why my username is what it is.
