THE FUCKING KNIFE MELTS IN THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC
Memes made by @bonesdontmelt while they listen to me complain about Order of the Phoenix
Just a warning I haven't actually finished book 5 yet so maybe something happens to the knife but STILL the fact that he had it in book four and it wasn't even mentioned is dumb.

Yes a timeline does exist! and that's very helpful information, but a lot of that information was created as the books were being written. Which often leaves more questions than answers, Harry Potter's first books were built on a foundation of sand which is why theories like Dumbledore created a child army are so easy to back up with the text.
And it's entirely possible that I just like knowing the exact events that lead to the current circumstances. I'm sure that the information we get on the Marauder's era is more than enough for plenty of people. But it's because JKR didn't plan anything that there are so many plot holes. For example: why wasn't Sirius given a trial? because JKR didn't figure out how to make him go to prison while getting one. She made several in universe things that make it nearly impossible for him to go to prison including veritaserum and legilimency. And this opens up a secondary plot hole, how was Sirius the only innocent man sent to Azkaban? It's entirely possible that he wasn't, but we don't see any repercussions of the imprisoning of innocents.
And then we just have egregious retconning. The diary? that was always a horcrux. The experiments for immortality were actually just all horcruxes. Oh and actually he made like seven of them, and we have to destroy 5(?) in one book because of that magical number that JKR landed on.
I'm not saying that a timeline doesn't exist but I am saying that JKR never sat down and actually wrote it down. When did the prank happen? I always assumed sixth year but then I was talking with a friend and they'd always assumed fifth but for all we know it could have happened anywhere between third year and seventh year. And that's important because the prank is kind of an lynchpin event, not only does it mark (theoretically) when Snape started to hate James so much, but it also changes how Dumbledore perceives Sirius, doing something stupid at 13 is much different than at 17. There are bigger issues like why did it take Voldemort an entire year to decide to kill a baby? Why didn't Pettigrew give up the secret sooner? Why weren't the Longbottoms put into hiding or were they and it's just not mentioned at all? So much of the timeline is Frankensteined together by fans who are desperate to figure out when everything happened in a way that fits within cannon.
The Goblet of Fire
I started reading Harry Potter with the very simple goal to prove that the reason it has so many plot holes is because JKR planned out the Marauder's era A: too late and B: not nearly enough.
This book has a lot and most of it's to do with more general characters which makes sense. Because of this I'm probably going to separate the info into more characters than just the Marauders and Lily.
But let's get into it. I'm getting my page numbers from the Raincoast Books publisher with the cover made by Micheal Wildsmith.
Lily Evans:
She refused to stop shielding Harry when Voldemort told her to move (ch. 14 pg. 238).
A trace of her sacrifice stayed on Harry (ch. 33 pg. 707).
James Potter
James died first while trying to hold Voldemort off and telling Lily to take harry and go (ch. 14 pg. 238).
Snape loathed James while they were in school (ch. 26 pg. 523).
He died straight backed and proud (Voldemort ch. 34 pg. 715).
Sirius Black:
He was sent to Azkaban without a trial because of Crouch (ch. 27 pg. 572).
Peter Pettigrew:
He gave up James and Lily's location to Voldemort (ch. 14 pg. 238).
Bertha Jorkins:
Bertha Jorkins was very nosey and didn't have any brains. She was a few years older than Sirius and James (ch. 19 pg. 366).
Bertha Jorkins had an excellent memory for gossip and never knew when to keep her mouth shut, it got her in a lot of trouble (ch. 27 pg. 580).
Bertha followed someone behind the greenhouses or at least said she saw someone (referred to as he) kissing Florence behind the green house and that he hexed her (ch. 30 pg. 650).
Voldemort / Tom Marvolo Riddle:
He killed his foolish muggle father (ch. 33 pg. 700).
His mother was a witch who lived in the village, she fell in love with his father but he left her when he found out she was a witch (ch.n33 pg. 700).
His mother died in childbirth, leaving him in a muggle orphanage (ch.33 pg. 700).
Voldemort vowed that he would take revenge on the fool who gave him his name (ch. 33 pg. 700).
He says that it appeared that one or more of his experiments for immortality worked because he didn't die (ch. 33 pg. 708).
Death Eaters:
Barty Jr. was caught with a group of death eaters who'd talked their way out of Azkaban, apparently they were trying to find Voldemort and return him to power (according to Sirius ch. 27 pg. 573).
Barty Jr. could have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time (according to Sirius ch. 27 pg. 574).
Barty Jr. was no older than 19 and a few cells away from Sirius, he died a year later, no one came to collect the body and it was buried by dementors (ch. 27 pg. 575).
Snape was famous for his fascination with the dark arts at school, he knew more curses when he arrived at the school than half of the seventh years. He was part of a group of Slytherins who nearly all turned out to be death eaters (according to Sirius ch. 27 pg. 577).
Part of Snape's group were Wilkes and Rosier who were both killed by Aurors before Voldemort fell (ch. 17 pg. 577).
The Lestranges are a married couple who are in Azkaban (ch. 27 pg. 578).
Avery said he was imperiused and isn't in Azkaban (ch. 27 pg. 577).
Snape was never accused of being a Death Eater, but he's clever enough to get out of it and a lot of them were never caught (ch. 27 pg. 577).
Crouch's Son (Barty Jr.) got twelve owls (Debatable, crouch said this after escaping Voldemort, so his mind isn't really intact ch. 28 pg. 604)
Igor Karkaroff was in Azkaban, and tried to sell out other Death Eater's to get out (ch. 30 pg. 637).
Moody spent 6 months tracking Karkaroff down (ch. 30 pg. 638)
Voldemort had the Death Eaters organized so that no one never knew who all of his supports were except for him (ch. 30 pg. 639).
Karkaroff gave the names of important supporters, people he saw doing Voldemort's bidding with his own eyes (ch. 30 pg. 639).
Antonin Dolohov tortured countless muggles and non-supporters of the dark lord, he was caught shortly after Karkaroff (ch. 30 pg. 639).
Evan Rosier was killed in a struggle with aurors, he took a large chunk out of Mad-Eye's nose in the process (ch. 30 pg. 640).
Travers helped murder the McKinnons (ch. 30 pg. 640).
Mulciber specialized in the imperius curse and forced countless people to do horrible things (ch. 30 pg. 640).
Rookwood was a spy and passed information to Voldemort from inside the ministry (ch. 30 pg. 640).
Augustus Rookwood had a network of spies inside and outside the Ministry to collect information. But the Ministry had already caught Mulciber and Travers (ch. 30 pg. 641).
Snape was a death eater but he was cleared by the council after being vouched for by Dumbledore. He rejoined the ministry's side before Voldemort fell at great personal risk (ch. 30 pg. 641).
Barty Jr. was put on trial with three other Death Eaters who were caught with him, he was shaking and milk white when he was brought in (ch. 30 pg. 645).
Barty begged his father not to send him back to the dementors, and when that didn't work begged his mother claiming his innocence (ch. 30 pg. 647).
The heavy lidded woman (Bellatrix, probably?) declared that Voldemort would be back, and that he would let them out of Azkaban (ch. 30 pg. 647).
In response to 15 in general information Harry then asks if Barty Jr. might have been innocent (ch. 30 pg. 655).
Barty Jr.'s mother saved him from Azkaban, she came and took his place using polyjuice potion and then kept taking it until she died there (ch. 35 pg. 740-741).
The house elf nursed Barty Jr. Back to health and once he regained it his father put him under a number of spells including the imperius curse, once he broke that control all Barty Jr. could think of was returning to service of his lord (ch. 35 pg. 741).
Barty Jr. loved quidditch (ch. 35 pg. 742).
General information:
Aberforth was prosecuted for practicing inappropriate charms on a goat and went about his business as per usual (according to Dumbledore ch. 24 pg. 495).
When Voldemort was first in power it was a very stressful time. people didn't know who was or wasn't working for him. You knew that he could make people do horrible things against their will. People were scared for themselves and their family. Every week there were more reported deaths, disappearances, and torturing. The ministry was a mess and didn't know what to do, they're trying to keep everything hidden from muggles. Muggles were dying too (ch. 27 pg. 572-573).
Crouch rose quickly in the ministry, he started ordering harsher measures against Voldemort's supporters. Giving Aurors permission/power to kill rather than capture. Sent multiple people to Azkaban without a trial. authorized the use of Unforgivable curses against suspects (ch. 27 pg. 573).
Crouch became as ruthless and cruel as anyone on the Dark side (according to Sirius ch. 27 pg. 573).
Crouch had plenty of supporters, they wanted to make him the minister of Magic, but once his son was found to be a death eater he lost most of his support (ch. 27 pg. 573).
Sirius says that Crouch should have spent more time out of the office and got to know his son (ch. 27 pg. 574).
Crouch cared about his son just enough to give him a trial, and even then it was a public display of how much Crouch hated him (according to Sirius ch. 27 pg. 574).
Being high ranking in the Ministry allowed Crouch and his wife a deathbed visit, his wife died shortly after their son (according to Sirius ch. 27 pg. 575).
Crouch attended a concert with Mr. and Mrs. Fudge with his wife and son, he was very proud of Barty for getting 12 O.W.L.S. (debatable we only find this out after Crouch escapes Voldemort ch. 28 pg. 604).
Ludo Bagman passed information to one of Voldemort's supporters, but he didn't know what he was doing. Rookwood was one of his father's friends and had promised to help get him a job at the Ministry (ch. 30 pg. 643-644).
Crouch looked upon his son with pure hatred (ch. 30 pg. 645).
Barty jr. and the three other Death Eaters captured Auror Frank Longbottom and subjected him to the cruciatus curse because they thought he had information on where Voldemort was. They then tortured his wife Alice the same way when he wouldn't give up the information (ch. 30 pg. 646).
Crouch disowned his son when he was sent to Azkaban, he didn't notice his wife faint when he made the declaration (ch. 30 pg. 647).
The years of Voldemort's rise to power were marked with disappearances (ch. 30 pg. 653).
The Longbottoms were very popular and the attack on them happened after Voldemort's disappearance which caused a wave of fury and demands for the perpetrators to be caught (ch. 30 pg. 655).
Mrs. Weasly once got told off by the Fat Lady for coming back to the common room at 4 in the morning, she was out for a stroll with her now husband. He however got caught by Apollyon Pringle the then caretaker. Mr. Weasly still has the marks (ch. 35 pg. 669).
Crouch loved his wife like he had never loved his son (according to Barty Jr. though he was under Veritaserum so it's likely he truly believed this ch. 35 pg. 740).
The old crowd included Remus Lupin, Mndungus Fletcher, and Arabella Fig (ch. 36 pg. 773).
Questions:
Did Regulus exist when this book was being written? I think not because I feel like Sirius would have mentioned him when he was talking about Snape's friends.
Were other innocent people sent to Azkaban when Crouch wasn't giving out trials?
Where are the theoretical repercussions from sending more innocent people to prison?
Edited on November 28, 2024, to add chapter numbers.

The Prisoner of Azkaban
Hello, I started reading the Harry Potter books with one goal in mind: to prove that one of the reasons it has so many plot holes is because JKR didn't plan out the marauders era.
This book is better than the last one on account of JKR actually (to some extent) figuring out what happened in the marauders era. Now maybe I'm just a tragic backstory type of gal but I really want to know exactly what happened. But I'll get onto my questions later.
Here's what we learn about Lily Evans in this book:
She was a bad egg (Aunt Marge ch. 2 pg. 28).
She begged Voldemort to kill her instead of Harry, and didn't take his offer to move aside (ch. 9 pg. 179).
James and Lily were Married (ch. 10 pg. 204).
Dumbledore advised the Potter's to go into hiding after a spy tipped him off (ch. 10 pg. 204).
There you go that's all we get. Which both makes sense and doesn't. She wasn't technically friends with the Marauders but you'd think that she'd be mentioned at the very least.
James Potter:
He was a wastrel (Aunt Marge ch. 2 pg.28).
At some point probably around their 5th year (because this is when they became animagus) the marauder's map was created (ch. 10 pg. 192).
You never saw James without Sirius (ch. 10 pg. 204).
He trusted Sirius more than all his other friends (ch. 10 pg. 204).
Sirius was his best man (ch. 10 pg. 204)
Technically it says "they" named Sirius as Harry's godfather but lets be honest it was probably mostly James seeing as Sirius doesn't mention Lily at all (ch. 10 pg. 204).
Dumbledore advised him to go into hiding after a spy tipped him off (ch. 10 pg. 204).
James trusted Sirius so much he told Dumbleore that he thought Sirius would rather die than give up their location (ch. 10 pg. 205).
James insisted that he use Sirius as his secret keeper (ch. 10 pg. 205).
James told Lily to take Harry and go, that he would try and hold Voldemort off (ch. 12 pg. 240).
He was exceedingly arrogant, a small amount of quidditch talent made him think he was a cut above the rest, and apparently he strutted (according to Snape ch. 14 pg. 284).
He saved Snape from an exceedingly deadly prank that was set up by him and his friends. James got cold feet at the last moment, so saving Snape's life was just a way of saving his own future (according to Snape ch. 14 pg. 285).
James would have done the same thing as Harry and go see Sirius himself when he popped up on the map (ch. 17 pg. 339).
James must have used the invisibility cloak fairly often, Remus makes a mention of "the number of times" he saw James disappear under the cloak (ch. 17 pg. 347).
Was one of the cleverest students in the school (ch. 18 pg. 354).
He helped Peter become an animagus and he himself became an animagus in fifth year after trying since third (ch. 18 pg. 354)
There were several near misses for the Marauders when they were running around with Remus on full moons, nothing specific is mentioned about with who or how. They laughed it off because they were young and carried away with their own cleverness (ch. 18 pg. 355).
James didn't actually know that Snape had been told about the whomping willow, but at great risk to himself he pulled Snape back before he could come face to face with Remus (ch. 18 pg. 357).
He was too arrogant to believe that he shouldn't trust Sirius (Snape ch. 19 pg. 361).
He flew as well as Harry (ch. 19 pg. 372).
James was nicknamed Prongs because his Animagus form was a stag (ch. 21 pg. 411-412).
He would have been disappointed if Harry never found any of the secret passages out of the castle (ch. 22 pg. 424-425).
Dumbledore knew James very well, and he thinks that James would have spared Peter Pettigrew as well (ch. 22 pg. 427).
Sirius Black:
He was rumored to be Voldemort's second in command (ch. 3 pg. 39).
He has a nasty temper, whether this is just a current timeline thing or not is debatable (ch. 8 pg. 161).
At some point probably around their 5th year (because this is when they became animagus) the marauder's map was created (ch. 10 pg. 192).
Madam Rosmerta was shocked to hear he'd gone dark, in fact he was the last person she thought would (ch. 10 pg. 203).
You never saw Sirius without James (ch. 10 pg. 204).
James thought he would rather die than tell anyone where they were hiding (ch. 10 pg. 205).
People think that Sirius got tired of playing double agent and the Potter's death was a declaration to him (ch. 10 pg. 206).
Sirius showed up to the Potter's house almost immediately after they were killed, he got there right after Hagrid pulled Harry out of the house (ch. 10 pg. 206).
He tried to get Harry from Hagrid, but failed (ch. 10 pg. 206).
Said he wouldn't need his motorbike anymore (ch. 10 pg. 207).
He was found laughing with Peter Pettigrew's severed finger in front of him in a crater caused by a magical attack thought to be caused by him (ch. 10 pg. 208).
Fudge believed that Sirius was unhinged for sometime after Voldemort's death (ch. 10 pg. 209).
Sirius was in a picture of James and Lily's wedding as the best man (ch. 11 pg. 212).
Sirius was one of the cleverest students in the school, it took him the better part of three years to figure out how to turn into an animagus (ch. 18 pg. 354).
He could transform into large enough of an animal to keep a werewolf in check (ch. 18 pg. 355).
There were several near misses for the Marauders when they were running around with Remus on full moons, nothing specific is mentioned about with who or how. They laughed it off because they were young and carried away with their own cleverness (ch. 18 pg. 355).
Sirius thought it would be amusing to tell Snape how to get past the whomping willow (ch. 18 pg. 357).
He blames himself for the Potters death because he's the one who convinced them to make Peter their secret keeper (ch. 19 pg. 365).
The night the Potters died he went to check on Peter and found him gone, it didn't feel right so he then went straight to the Potters house (ch. 19 pg. 365).
He thinks that Peter is weak and talentless, he thought that they could fool Voldemort by making him the secret keeper (ch. 19 pg. 369).
He didn't go insane because he knew he was innocent, and that wasn't happy so the dementor's couldn't suck it out of him (ch. 19 pg. 371).
He thought Remus was the spy (ch. 19 pg. 373).
Remus Lupin:
At some point probably around their 5th year (because this is when they became animagus) the marauder's map was created (ch. 10 pg. 192).
He thinks that the makers of the Marauders map would have thought it entertaining to lure Harry out of the school (ch. 14 pg. 298).
He was very young when he received the bite that turned him into a werewolf. His parent's tried everything to fix it, but there was no cure. (ch. 18 pg. 352-353).
Dumbledore brought him to the school, and planted the whomping willow, so there would be a safe place for him to transform. Because there wasn't anything else to destroy he tore at himself. (ch. 18 pg. 353).
He was happier than he'd been in his entire life at Hogwarts, he had friends for the first time (ch. 18 pg. 354).
He made all kinds of excuses about where he was going when he transformed because he was afraid that his friends would leave him (ch. 18 pg. 354).
There were several near misses for the Marauders when they were running around with Remus on full moons, nothing specific is mentioned about with who or how. They laughed it off because they were young and carried away with their own cleverness (ch. 18 pg. 355).
They used to roam the castle and Hogsmeade grounds with his friends, which is apparently how they learned so much about the castle and eventually got the idea for the Marauders map (ch. 18 pg. 355).
Remus and Snape didn't get along (ch. 18 pg. 357)
He thought Sirius was the spy. It's unclear if this is because he was put in prison, or he thought so before James and Lily died (ch. 19 pg. 373).
Peter Pettigrew:
At some point probably around their 5th year (because this is when they became animagus) the marauder's map was created (ch. 10 pg. 192).
He was a fat little boy always following after James and Sirius (ch. 10 pg. 207).
He was always bad at dueling according to McGonigal (ch. 10 pg. 208).
He received the order of Merlin First Class (ch. 10 pg. 208).
His mother got back the order of Merlin first class and Pettigrew's finger in a box (ch. 11 pg. 215).
Was helped by Sirius and James with becoming an animagus, it took him the longest (ch. 18 pg. 354).
There were several near misses for the Marauders when they were running around with Remus on full moons, nothing specific is mentioned about with who or how. They laughed it off because they were young and carried away with their own cleverness (ch. 18 pg. 355).
He was the Potter's secret keeper, because Sirius convinced James that no one would suspect Peter (ch. 19 pg. 365).
He betrayed the Potters (ch. 19 pg. 365).
He's been hiding from the death eaters more than Sirius (ch. 19 pg. 368).
He always liked big friends who would look after him, it used to be the other Marauders (ch. 19 pg. 369).
Peter never did anything for anyone unless he could see what was in it for him (ch. 19 pg. 370).
He says that Voldemort forced him to spy, but almost immediately back tracks and says that Voldemort was taking over everywhere and that he would have killed him (ch. 19 pg. 370-371).
General Marauder's era knowledge
Harry theorizes that Lucius Malfoy was in the inner circle and knew about Sirius (ch. 11 pg. 215).
According to Snape the Marauder's map is full of dark magic (ch. 14 pg. 289).
Snape was jealous of James, apparently of his quidditch prowess (ch. 18 pg. 357).
Snape saw Remus being led across the grounds by Madam Pomfrey one night and became curious (ch. 18 pg. 357).
Snape tried to get in on Sirius' advice and was then pulled back by James; saving his life (ch. 18 pg. 357).
Now on the surface this is a lot of information but here are my questions that I'm pretty sure aren't answered.
Why did Sirius think Remus was the spy? Was it simply because he was a werewolf?
Why did Peter betray them? Yes in theory it's because Voldemort was growing in power but was there a specific event? Did he get captured and then flip? Did he seek Voldemort out?
If Remus did think Sirius was the spy before he was sent to azkaban, why?
Where the hell are Lily's friends? One of her friend's is the only one who lives past the second war and she's part of the order, why doesn't she ever talk to Harry?

Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets
Okay friends, I started reading the Harry Potter series specifically to prove that the reason it has so many plot holes is that JKR didn't have anything from the marauder's era planned out.
And boy howdy, does this book prove it. It's important to note that at the end of The Sorcerer's Stone Hagrid went around sending letters to all of James and Lily's school friends asking for any pictures they had. I didn't mention this in my last post because well, none of those friends are named.
When I say there is nothing in this book about Harry's parents: I mean nothing. He has a whole book full of moving pictures and I think it's very vaguely mentioned that he looked at it in the first chapter. This is made particularly horrible by the fact that there is literally one (only one) picture of Sirius (sorry giving you info from the third book here to prove my point).
I don't want him looking at it every other chapter or anything, but it'd be nice for him to I don't know look at the pictures? Just once in the beginning mention a scarred man, a mousy boy, and perhaps a dark haired stranger. It's really not that hard but as stated JKR didn't have anything planned about the Marauders.
Here's what we learn about Lily in this book:
She died to save Harry (ch. 17 pg. 316).
She cast a powerful Counter charm when she died for Harry (ch. 17 pg. 317).
I'm not kidding that's it, these are the only mentions of Lily Evans in this book.
James Potter:
Harry inherited one thing from his father, the invisibility cloak (ch. 14 pg. 259).
There you go that's everything we get about anyone from the marauder's era.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Okay guys this is kind of ridiculous, I started reading the Harry Potter books with one goal in mind: to prove that the reason it has so many plot holes is because JKR didn't actually plan anything about what happened in the marauder's era.
Not until book three at least and even that isn't really enough information. I have the Scholastic Inc. version of this book with a cover made by headcase design.
But let's start off with a bang!
Most of the information in this book is on Lily Evans and James Potter, which makes complete sense, I'm not going to throw a hissy fit about that.
Here's what we know about Lily:
She has a sister who rejected her named Petunia (ch. 1 pg. 2).
According to Hagrid she was very good at magic (ch. 4 pg. 51, ch. 5 pg. 79).
She turned teacups into rats at home meaning that she broke the underage magic rules (according to petunia ch. 4 pg. 53).
Her parents were very proud to have a witch in the family. (Petunia ch. 4 pg. 53).
She was Head girl (ch. 4 pg. 55)
Was killed on Halloween when Harry was just a year old (ch. 4 pg. 55)
Her eyes were green (ch. 5 pg. 82)
The wand she used was Willow 10 1/4 inches, swishy, and good for charm work (ch. 5 pg. 82). Now if we look at the harrypotter.com page we can find out a little bit more. "Willow is an uncommon wand wood with healing power, and I have noted that the ideal owner for a willow wand often has some (usually unwarranted) insecurity, however well they may try and hide it. While many confident customers insist on trying a willow wand (attracted by their handsome appearance and well-founded reputation for enabling advanced, non-verbal magic) my willow wands have consistently selected those of greatest potential, rather than those who feel they have little to learn. It has always been a proverb in my family that he who has furthest to travel will go fastest with willow" (Harrypotter.com).
She's a very pretty woman with dark red hair and eyes that aren't only the same color but the same shape as Harry's (ch. 12 pg. 208)
She tried to protect Harry and if she hadn't, there's a possibility that Voldemort wouldn't have killed her (ch. 17 pg. 294)
She loved Harry so much that it left its own mark, though not a visible one. (ch. 17 pg. 299)
James Potter:
He was a good for nothing husband who was very unDursleyish (Petunia ch. 1 pg. 2).
He was good at magic according to Hagrid (ch. 4 pg. 51).
He was head boy (ch. 4 pg. 55).
Was killed on Halloween when Harry was just a year old (ch. 4 pg.55).
The reason Voldemort didn't try and get him on his side was because he knew how close the Potter's were to Dumbledore, technically this is also mentioned about Lily but seeing as she was Muggle born I highly doubt that the offer to join the Death Eaters would ever be extended to her so I didn't put this in her section (ch. 4 pg. 55).
His wand was Mahogany, 11 inches, pliable, slightly more powerful than Lily's, and excellent for transfiguration (ch. 5 pg.82). Kay guys I'm not kidding when I say that mahogany isn't listed on Harrypotter.com and I even went to the fandom wiki but all it had was that James potter's wand was made of mahogany as well as a table in the leaky cauldron and the Nimbus 2000.
According to McGonagall he was an excellent quidditch player, however she doesn't say what position he played (ch. 9 pg. 152)
He left his invisibility cloak in the care of someone (who we know is Dumbledore ch. 12 pg. 202).
He was tall, thin, had untidy black hair that stuck up in the back, and he wore glasses (ch. 12 pg. 208).
Severus and James loathed each other (ch. 17 pg. 290).
Voldemort killed him first and he apparently put up a courageous fight (ch. 17pg. 294).
James mainly used the invisibility cloak to sneak into the kitchens and steal food (according to Dumbledore ch. 17 pg. 298).
He saved Snape's life (ch. 17 pg. 300).
Now I'm just barely going to mention that Lily and James were very rarely brought up without the other.
Sirius Black:
I'm honestly shocked that Sirius was even mentioned in the first book, I knew that it was his motorcycle that Hagrid had but I really thought that was going to be something mentioned in later books. however on chapter 1 page 14 Hagrid says "'Young Sirius Black lent it to me.'" From this we know that Sirius was there on the night Harry's parent's died.
Harry later has a dream about a flying motorcycle which I think can either be read as a reference to the night Hagrid flew him to the Dursley's OR as a subtle mention that Sirius was around a lot before Lilly and James died (ch. 2 pg. 19).
So kudos to JKR for having one other character than Harry's parents created.
General information about the marauder's era:
20 years from the beginning of this book Voldemort started looking for followers and found them. Some wanted power others were afraid (ch. 4 pg. 54).
No one ever lived after Voldemort decided to kill them (ch. 4 pg. 55).
Voldemort killed some of the best witches and wizards of the age: McKinnons, Bones, and Prewetts (ch. 4 pg. 56).
According to Hagrid there wasn't a single witch or wizard who went bad that wasn't in Slytherin (ch. 5 pg. 80).
