Before January 2025:
If you are a USAmerican in a relationship that might be affected by legislation that dissolves same-sex marriages, who may no longer be recognized as next-of-kin, especially if you have children, get your rights in writing!
Your marriage certificate may not be enough to prove you have rights to make medical decisions for non-biological children or for a same-sex spouse or partner.
Go to a lawyer, get it spelled out as clearly as possible that you have a voice in emergency medical and legal situations.

i think "it takes a village" shouldn't be just "to raise a child". we should understand it takes a village to do literally everything we do. all day every day. without our communities we would not have drinking water or electricity or clean streets or food or shelter or anything. we cannot do any thing alone. we just can't. and with that comes the fact that you are not alone. you already have a community, seek to be an active part of it, you will feel better. reach out and thank them, they're happy to have you too. i promise. it takes a village to live.

On twitter I’m seeing dozens of threads from Black activists warning people against burnout, giving all sorts of useful tips about preventing and managing it for the sake of a long-term, sustainable effort.
On tumblr I’m seeing a hell of a lot of young white kids yelling at anyone who actually follows those steps, and acting like burnout is a moral falling rather than a well-proven psychological phenomenon.
Be careful who you get your information from. Don’t let guilt lead you to make choices that will harm both you and the movement.

friendly reminder that the large-scale oppression of women would not be mathematically possible without the complicity of every man you know. if the men in your life were truly loyal to you, they would be fucking outraged at what's happening/happened to women and it would be virtually impossible for this "minority" of misogynist men to impact women's lives so widely.

annoying fucking post. gen z is not a coherent social group or community. english speaking kids on tiktok talking about how gen z is the best generation is not any kind of like, social movement. people are becoming more radical and to the right but its not restricted to people born after 2002 or whatever. i s2g

everyone says join your local mutual aid groups and build community, but uh, what do you do if a lot of them seem to have dissolved and the other ones don't have consistent recurring meetings.

one of the saddest things from this election is that I think it probably permanently damaged the leftwing coalition among people of color. obvs full final counts aren’t tabulated yet but on the whole, black voters didn’t budge; >90% of black women voted for Harris, and while Trump made some gains with black men in some states, they didn’t shift too much (and I think in Michigan, >90% of black men went for Harris).
they did not waver, and they got shanked. they know they got shanked. and other subgroups of POC don’t even seem to be aware that this reckoning is already underway. there’s this overall aggrieved sense of like, “well I chose what I chose because it was right for ME, and you can’t blame me,” which is fine to shout at some corporate political consultant but is absolutely not going to work on some random fellow American. and it is REALLY not going to work on politically engaged black voters.
(this is pretty much the same logic we apply towards white Trump voters, guys, and it cuts both ways: people who are directly endangered because of your actions do not have to coddle you while expressing rage and fear for their own lives. yes, some white people in particular have really crossed lines, but a lot of folks are simply being blunt in a way that’s angering people because it’s too honest. for example, college-educated white women broke for Harris by like 20 points, and they are still going to die from ectopic pregnancies & bleed out in parking lots because all men including men of color threw women’s rights to the wolves. those women do not have to make niceys about this.)
anyway. moderate black voters (especially southern black voters) are the backbone of the Democratic party, they’ve been very loyal to the rest of the coalition, they’ve allowed themselves to be pushed leftward on policies that don’t even benefit them, etc, and they’ve eaten shit for it. it’s one thing to be disappointed by white people, another to be let down by other ppl of color whom you were allegedly in solidarity with.
as a non-black person of color who absolutely relies on solidarity with black voters, I uhhhhh. well. I really can’t blame them if they are permanently unimpressed with me (we don’t have clear data yet bcs small population, but I expect that final analyses will show that desis also shifted rightward with everyone else). and if, for example, black voters decide that they’re not interested in sticking their necks out for issues like immigration policy (primarily beneficial to nonblack POC; massive liability with the rest of the country, etc) in the future, I absolutely can’t blame them.
I don’t want this, it will suck immensely because we all need allies, but honestly I just can’t blame them for being fucking furious with the rest of us & fundamentally questioning solidarity from “people of color”
I don’t really have any answers for this, just sad about it.
