In the rebuilt Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, a butterfly flaps its wings. Halfway around the world, a hurricane is born. Flights across the globe are canceled, delayed, or rescheduled. Among them is Air Asia flight D75053 to Kuala Lumpur, scheduled to depart Gate 149 at Haneda International Airport Terminal 3 at precisely sixteen hundred hours.

Nanami Kento should be on that flight, ascending into weightlessness and leaving Tokyo’s greater metropolis behind for two weeks. Instead, it’s 16:53, his flight status remains UNKNOWN, and he’s been forced into meandering around the Tokyo Souvenir Shop North like a tourist. That is until a very tall, very loud stranger walks into his life.

It began as nothing more than a way to blow off steam. In the midst of dealing with a difficult client and an even more demanding supervisor, Nanami and Higuruma went out for drinks after work, and one thing lead to another, and— Now, it’s habit. Kento tells himself that’s all it is. Nothing that happens between them ever escapes the dark of night—it never carries over into the morning, nor does it affect their work. And so long as they can keep the distinct lines between professional and personal in place, it’s fine. At least, that’s how Kento consoles himself as he steps outside of Hiromi’s apartment building and into the chilly night air yet again. It’s the fourth Friday in a row. It’s becoming a routine at this point: the work week ends, he and Higuruma go out for drinks, and then his thoughts blur and he ends up in Hiromi’s bed.
