Finished Season 1 of Card Captor
Let's start all this off I guess with just getting my thoughts on media out there, as this is what this place is partly about for now. I like Card Captor a fair deal, but after getting to Season 2 of Card Captor Sakura, it needs to be said
This anime does indeed have a filler-problem.
Like, if you just simply look at the episode list and kinda individually go over each episode in your head the vast majority of the great ones are near the start of the show. It really has a magic and a zest to it near the start, and it covers some really emotionally affecting stories that feel like they kinda say something about the characters or develop them just a little. It feels like it's got things to say, it feels like it cares about exploring this girl who has no mom and… I dunno, stuff.
A lot of the filler meanwhile? Oh, it's still fine. Some of it is great even too, esp with some of the early ones. But having so much of that just wears out what was great about the show early on in the first half of season 1 (season 2 starts at episode 36. Filler starts around ep 12-15, takes a break, then has a long stretch again from 19 to 24.) and main canon ones get sprinkled in as it repeats that kind of cycle.
So you know. When this show is at its best it is classic, and it's quite high-production value and consistent besides when it's not. But it's got some lowws. It's hard to call a show like this something like a 9 when you weigh the overall quality. And the movie kind of a had banal plot. It was pretty good visually, but it wasn't amazing, and a lot of the action scenes boiled down to short chase scenes. I'm sure this is prob somewhat what it's like with things like Dragon Ball and whatnot too, and why filler became a dirty word; It's not that it's always bad, but you water down something great and stretch out something that does have proper pacing and story-telling and would normally keep up interest. If someone is indeed randomly seeing this too, I'm rereading FMA so I'll prob have something to say about that later if you're interested.
