LOOK AT IT
so preettyy
why you should watch tdp
taggin ma moots that (as far as I know?) haven't seen/finished tdp @badgebadge314 @thesmileystudio @pseudocyance @bluetbluish
we can suck it to Netflix
good adult themes without being crazy gory and keeping the goofy
ATLA references
good queer rep that for the most part doesn't feel forced
NEURODIVERGENT REP THAT'S CANON ADJACENT
well written villains that don't drive you up the wall
if we can greenlight arc3 we can suck it to Netflix
fantasy (a love me some good fantasy)
main boy is a massive awkward nerd and we love that for him
Animation is suuuuper pretty
rayllum
jokes are mostly pretty funny
jack de sena
It's a pretty goofy show most of the time while still being genuinely good
We can suck it to Netflix
THE MAGIC SYSTEM IS REALLY COOL
Actually a fair amount of extra products if you like owning things - graphic novels, jewelry, an art book, novelisations, a board game that's actually super fun, and a TTRPG
RAYLLUM
The fandom is small but very nice it's really easy to make friends (don't look at twitter or reddit)
people who've seen the show feel free to add things I'm super tired right now so I've definitely forgotten stuff
#dragon prince#not the best quality screenshots#and yet they're still beautiful#tdp#the dragon prince#continue the saga

Haven’t seen anyone talking about this little moment in ep8, with Amaya trying to comfort Janai, who is weeping on the arm of the old Sunfire throne in the abandoned throne room of the corrupted and monster infested capital as the world ends outside, partially because her brother betrayed them, and then got himself killed, right in front of her. It’s an incredibly soft and sweet Janaya moment but oh my god is the context sad and dark

something about how callum’s father had a breathing related/respiratory disease. something about how callum’s first arcanum was the sky arcanum, how his most signature spell is the breathing spell (aspiro). something about how soren had a wheezing/coughing/respiratory disease as a child. something about how soren had possibly the same issues as callum’s father and how Soren is like a brother figure to callum. something about how viren turned to dark magic to save soren. something about how the only two times callum used dark magic it was to save his loved ones. something about the parallels between callum and viren, the two high mages.

Being favored by Viren didn't end so well for Claudia either.

I think a lot about how the series talks about fear as an emotional reaction worth honouring, to be honest. There's the obvious parallels between ignoring a person's fear as a part of de-personalization from being an assassin
RAYLA: The human, he looked up at me, and I saw the fear in his eyes! RUNAAN: Of course he was afraid! But you had a job to do!
as well as something you can revel in if you're too twisted by that time, or in that moment, to see it as the warning sign that it is
CLAUDIA: You're used to humans running away, aren't you? Running, hiding, cowering. All through history dragons have had the power while humans lived in fear. Well times are changing. [...] It won't follow us. But not because it's trapped. [Grinning] It won't follow because it's afraid of me.
but also most evidently here as something Viren ignored in his wife, and was ignored in his son because "There was one more ingredient I needed, something so simple and easy: her tears."
And I knew she was right. I had become a monster.

Soren having to listen to Viren apologize and praise him is so. Visceral.
The simultaneous ecstasy and rage that comes from hearing the person you wanted to please most say exactly what you wanted to hear, but knowing deep down this must be a trick... right? He's just trying to manipulate you again. Even if he has changed, you can never let yourself be vulnerable to him again because what if he hasn't? Your relationship with him is so broken that believing that he's changed is a danger to you.
But still you personally bring him food every day, you still ask for his help in your most desperate moment when everything is burning down around you because he is your dad. And you love him as much as you hate him. And it sickens you. Look what he's done to you. To everyone. This is his fault, and he is the only one who can fix it.
But you can never be fixed. Your heart will continue to burn, caused by no dark magic, but because of expertly inflicted wounds.
