Xiaomi surprises the IT industry again, what is surprising this time is not Hongmi smartphone or the like, nor smart TV, but instead that a Google senior heavy manager joins Xiaomi.
The Google Global Vice President Hugo Barra confirmed to the social media yesterday that he will join Xiaomi. The Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has also responded yes to this news on his Weibo (Chinese Twitter), he said," Barra will joinXiaomi in October and be responsible for exploring in international business. Barra will also present at the Sep 5 Announcement Conference."
However, some news gets people sidetracked to Barra's personal life about how he joins Xiaomi. News reported that Barra is falling in love with a girl in Google, while this girl also dates with Brin, one of Google Founder. In the eyes of media, Barra and Brin are enemies, this is why Barra quits Google and joins Xiaomi.
The truth behind all these doesn't matter at all, because Barra plays an important role in Google: he stepped up from a product manager to the Vice President of Android Department in only 4 years, he was in charge of the biggest mobile operating system in the world, and thus is one of the most potential powerful guys in the world's mobile internet.
But why does he join Xiaomi?
The Xiaomi Co-founder, and the Xiaomi President, Lin Bin didn't respond directly to this question, he said," It is not an impulse for Barra to join Xiaomi, I know Barra for many years, so I know him well. Xiaomi sincerely invited him in many times in the past. Barra decided to join us this time is because Lei Jun (Xiaomi CEO) and I insited inviting him in for many times."
Lin Bin said Xiaomi dedicates to protect the Android ecosystem, such as 2S/2A, Xiaomi TV Box passed CTS Compatibility Test, and the business mode about open, ecommerce and high-spec-low-price is also consistent with the idea of Android, so Barra is the only candidate to push Xiaomi to the global stage, which will also strengthen the health of Android Ecosystem.
Some insider also said Barra will move with his family to Beijing and will work in Xiaomi office in the coming 2 years. And Barra will be the 8th powerful figure in Xiaomi , except the 7 co-founders. While Barra joins Xiaomi,Xiaomi's business will expand to many countries.
About Hugo Barra
Files shows that Hugo Barra's position in Google stepped up very fast. From March 2008 to November 2009, he was Google Mobile Product Manager. From November 2009 to December 2010, he was Google Mobile Product Supervisor. From December 2010 to November 2012, he was Google Android Product Supervisor. From November till now, he is Android Global Vice President.
Barra is a classical Google technology-style senior manager, and was in charge of many Google products, such as mobile search, mobile map, voice search, mobile ads and Android 4.0. He also masters Portuguese, Spanish, Frech and English.
There seems no intersections between Barra and China, but Barra is not a stranger toXiaomi. The Xiaomi President, Lin Bin, was his colleague in Google for years. Lin Bin worked at Google in charge of the Google's business in China for years before he joined Xiaomi.
Google has 3 mobile insititutes, they are scattered in U.S, U.K and China respectively. Barra was in U.K while at Google, Lin Bin Beijing instead, but these 3 institutes coworks with each very closely,which made intersections between Barra and Lin Bin. It's said Lin Bin often backed Barra for many projects, so they know each other very well and have perfect relationship. When Lin Bin quit Google and founded Xiaoim, Barra inquiried Lin Bin about his plan.
The time for Lin Bin had alot of communications with Barra was after 2011. Lin Bin said that Barra was moved when Lin Bin told of the story about selling smartphones on internet for the very first time, the reason was Google also made smartphones but made no progress in ecommerce. In the other aspect, Barra was working on Android, the MIUI OS based on Android is developing super fast all the time.
Lin Bin and Barra kept a close touch by email. Barra was astonished on the growth and sales volume of Xiaomi. Even Barra stepped up as Google Global Vice President, he still asked about the compatibility betweenXiaomi smartphones and Android, directly. Lin Bin thinks, Barra is the one, except co-founders of Xiaomi, who knows Xiaomi best and is a senior manager in a big enterprenur.
Yet, the Google insider pointed out that what makes Barra quit is inside Google. The Android father, Rubin, was replaced with Chrome senior manager, which means Chrome and Android have to integrates with each other, under such a circustance the Android senior managers feel in hot seat.
Xiaomi aims for 100 Billion sale per year and needs acceleration in international business.
Barra is one of the founders of Android 4.0. His name is not familiar to many China's readers. But if any reader who has had watched the Google product debut for times, he will be familiar to his face and voice. Because Barra presented at Google Product Anouncement Conference for many times, he is already a so-called spokeman for Android product line.
That Barra joins Xiaomi will also help in Xiaomi brand building, especially for the oversea market. It's analyzed that Xiaomi will enter international market under the lead of Barra, improve and strengthen its relationship with Google Android department through Barra.
Analisis also further pointed out that Xiaomi and Google may cooperate in future due to the huge sales of Xiaomi smartphones.
Whatever, the biggest reason Xiaomi needs Barra is international business. Lei Jun said at the 2013 Internet Conference that Xiaomi has reached 13 billion sale in the first half year of 2013, if there is no exception, Xiaomi will sell 15 million smartphones this year, which is 26 billion to 28 billion sale. The soonest time for Xiaomi to reach 100 billion sale per year is 2015.
Lei Jun also said, maybe when Xiaomi reaches 100 billion sale per year, people would really start understanding the innovations in the whole business mode led by Xiaomi. We have never seen any company in the past reaching 100 billion sale in just 5 to 6 years.
Who is familiar with Barra also said to Tencent Technology that for Xiaomi to reach 100 billion sale is not only to turn loss or zero profit into big profit, but also to build an ecosystem, even with Google together. This needs talents and is what Barra can work. This is also why Xiaomi doesn't look for talents from communication industry but from Google ecosystem.
To Xiaomi, international market is a must-enter one. Currently, Xiaomi has set up offices in Hongkong and Taiwan for sales and customer service.
The Xiaomi insider said Hongkong and Taiwan are just for practicing. Xiaomi has a good name in oversear market, its next step is to accelerate its pace in globalization. The next big action Xiaomi would take most probably could be for Southern Asia and South America. Because Barra is a Brazillian.
Lin Bin said to Tencent Technology that globalization is a key strategy for Xiaomi. Xiaomi has many candidates, from Microsoft and Google and so on. But Barra is the best one so far ever. Because Android set big different polices inside and outside China, in China Android set no limits, but outside China Google has strong control.
"Barra is quite familiar with the rules of Android for oversea market. To succeed for Xiaomi in international market, software service is a key ring, MIUI must be better compatible with Android, for which Barra can provide valued experiences.", Lin Bin said.
That Barra joins Xiaomi means Xiaomi has clear strategies on globalization and is ready to take next key step.

Huawei Announced Honor 3 Outdoor
Just 2 days ago, On August 28, Huawei held a conference in Beijing announcing its brand new Honor 3 Outdoor.
Huawei Honor 3 Outdoor powers HiSilicon K3V2 Quad Core CPU clocked at 1.5GHz, features 4.7 inch 720*1280 pixel in-cell display, runs Emotion UI 1.6 based on Android 4.2.
The CEO of Consumer Department from Huawei indroduced a few main features of the Honor 3 Outdoor:
Honor 3 Outdoor aims for amphibious smartphone, including super capability in water-proof - there are 16 places to achieve this capability. The users can use water to clean the device directly. Furthermore, no water can penetrate in even it is 1 meter under-water.
Honor 3 Outdoor features the 13.10 mega pixel camera from Sony EXMOR RS for Mobile, builds in 5 lens that's made specifically. Especially there is an image processing engine developed by Huawei alone, which will automatically recognize the senses, auto focus and Twilight Render at night.
Honor 3 Outdoor supports infrared remote control. The users can remotely control TV, TV Box, IPTV and Air Conditioner and some other electronics using Honor 3 Outdoor.
Honor 3 Outdoor, for the first time, builds in an Instant Sharing App via wireless connection and cloud service. It can interact with, share content with smartphones, tablets and some other electronics and thus better combine its functionality.

Xiaomi 3 looks like Nokia Lumia
As September is coming so close, more and more news about Xiaomi 3 comes out. We have reported some detail about the spec of Xiaomi 3: Xiaomi 3 will have 2 versions, powering Tegra4 and Snapdragon 800 respectively. The one with Tegra4 supports the TD network of China Mobile, the other one with Snapdragon 800 supports the network of China Unicom and China Telecom, both versions are 5 inch, whose touch panels vendors are Sharp and JDI.
Regarding the chassis of Xiaomi 3, there will be many versions with many colors, and has a rectangle body which looks like Nokia Lumia series.
Today in Baidu Tieba, there are citizens exposing the real photos of Xiaomi 3. These photos looks very close to those we saw before, from which we see founder corners and blue back case and about 5 inch display.
In addition, the Xiaomi 3 is in a protective case that fits perfectly, which should be the official accessories fromXiaomi. The girl holding Xiaomi 3 wore a T-shirt printed with Xiaomi Logo, which proves hers a worker of Xiaomi.
It is also said that, the one with Tegra 4 would be released one month before the other one with Snapdragon 800.

White Xiaomi Hongmi (Red Rice) supporting WCDMA is Exposed
Now the WCDMA version ofXiaomi Hongmi (Red Rice) available in WHITE color is exposed by the XiaomiCEO Lei Jun on his Weibo (Chinese Twitter).
Last night, the Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun twitted a twitt with the real device Xiaomi Hongmi (Red Rice) for China Unicom. What's surprising is this Xiaomi Hongmi (Red Rice) has white front, those previous TD version have black front. No one knows if the white Xiaomi Hongmi (Red Rice) is only available for China Unicom, maybe some day in future the white TD version for China Mobile will come out. Let's see.
According to the system UI, this Hongmi (Red Rice) is using the network powered by China Unicom, this means it supports WCDMA + GSM and is dual-sim dual-mode.
Anyway, the WCDMA version of Xiaomi Hongmi (Red Rice) is confirmed by the CEO ofXiaomi, maybe it is not that far from its official release.
Some news reported Xiaomi Hongmi (Red Rice) may be announced withXiaomi 3 together on September 5. It might have different price tag from the TD version.

Xiaomi is valued for 10 billion dollars and Xiaomi 3 is about to roll out
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has confirmed on Weibo (Chinese Twitter) that Xiaomi has just finished a new round of funding, in which Xiaomi is valued for 10 billion dollars. This means Xiaomi has become the 4th biggest internet company in China, following Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu. The Xiaomi President Lin Bin also said in an interview that Xiaomi will take big actions for oversea market, and in the near future a famous manager from international company will join Xiaomi.
Lin Bin also told Tencent Technology about its future strategies. It is said thatXiaomi will hold a media conference in September and announce the 3rd generation smartphone, which will result in a new round of surprise and applause. In addtion to the Hongmi (Red Rice) just rolled out not long ago,Xiaomi is on the highway now and is very ambitious. It is said that Xiaomi has set a goal of sales volume for 2013 - 20 million.
All these phenomenons leads to new questions: nowadays the war on CPU and Frequency in smartphones has been going weaker and weaker, the advantages and importance of the Weibo (Chinese Twitter) platform has playing a smaller role, how Xiaomi will continue to maitain a fans market, how Xiaomi will maitain high growth in sales volume.
Lin Bin said to Tencent Technology that 70% sales volume of Xiaomi goes through the official website, 30% through the channels of carriers. The rulesXiaomi applies is to build awesome products out of users' expectation through internet marketing and mouth word. Lin Bin further sited that the buyers that buy for many times reaches 42%.
Regarding to Xiaomi Hongmi (Red Rice), Hongmi went a tough way. As told by CEO Lei Jun, in order to prepare for mistake or whatever, there were 2 solutions for Hongmi (Red Rice). Last september, Xiaomi launched a project codenamed H1 aiming for Dual Core based Cortex A9. But it was given up this May, which result in loss of houndreds of million.
The final result for the big loss is the Xiaomi Hongmi (Red Rice) for 799 RMB, which hit the market in big shock and is reported that it makes no way left for others to go. Lin Bin said, Hongmi equips the highest frequency MT6589T Quad Core clocked at 1.5GHz, supports Dual Sim Dual Mode, which break the rule that 1000 phone is low end phone. Xiaomi predicts that the huge sales volume will make Xiaomi live without earning from Hardware but from Software, which has come true. Lin Bin said that Xiaomi has sold 15 million smartphones till now, the average monthly income through MIUI has reached 20 million RMB, and Xiaomi TV box and other hardwares are also exploring bigger space, which could make MIUI brings 20 million dollars (NOT RMB) income monthly in 2014.
What must be noticed is that there is subtle change to the marketing strategies applied byXiaomi. Xiaomi worked with Tencent in this July for the first time, Xiaoim debut its Hongmi (Red Rice) on QQ Zone (Chinese Facebook), which made miracle: 7.45 million users joined the pre-sale program, and 100 thousand Hongmi (Red Rice) sold out in 90 seconds.
This is what just happend after Xiaomi worked with Sina Weibo (Chinese Twitter), and it is the second time Xiaomi tried social sales and it worked out perfect. Rumors also guessed that Xiaomi might have met bottleneck in marketting, because of this Xiaomi could probably spend money in ads marketing.
The files shows that Xiaomi did ads marketing for 2 times in the past. The first time was one month ads marketting on Fen Zhong Media (a Marketting Service Company in China) for 10 million RMB. In the spring of 2013, Xiaomi also did a 15-second ads marketting on Chinese Centeral TV for 10 million RMB. But comparing to Samsung and Huawei ect, the cost Xiaomi spent in marketing is nothing and needless to mention.
Lin Bin explained that Xiaomi is very carefully in ads marketting. Though the Weibo is playing a weak role now, Xiaomi is also trying another channels in marketting. One is to strengthen Xiaomi website, another one is explore on the third social network, like QQ Zone. As of now, the Xiaomi's QQ Zone has more than 10 million followers and the Xiaomi's WeChat has more than 2 million fans.
More than that, Xiaomi will also get 30% sales volume via the channels of carrier. Lin Bin said, Xiaomi worked with China Unicom and China TeleCom before, now it is working with China Mobile. Xiaomi will maintain a balance between its own sales channel and the carrier channels, even in its worst time, such as out of stock.
Lin Bin further analyzed that the online sales mode and offline sales mode has mixed up with each other: many checked the price online, but bought it offline; also many checked the price offline and bought it online. The smartphones sold by the carriers receive compensation from the carriers, the smartphones sold by Xiaomi website is naked smartphone (Chinese word,it means smartphone with official accessories but without any more extra accessories for gift or whatever). Both sales modes are not controdictory with each other.
A guy from Xiaomi is very confident about their future, he said to Tencent Technology," even Xiaomi sells 20 million smartphones this year, it just only 10% of the total marketshare. The market in China is so big, there is big space for Xiaomi to grow up, Xiaomi is not worried at all that Xiaomi smartphones do not sell. It is not urgent for Xiaomi to do ads marketing."
However, this is just a thought from insideXiaomi. As Xiaomi sells 20 million smartphones this year, especially it has entered the low-end market, which makes ZTE, Lenovo, Coolpad and Huawei fire on it, of course and those Shanzhai smartphones are among its enemies.
HowXiaomi makes a way out is amazingly noticeable.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun: Xiaomi = Google + Amazon
The co-founder and CEO of Xiaomi Lei Jun said in an interview that the international media shouldn't continue to view Xiaomi as Chinese Apple, because these 2 companies are totally fundamentally different.
Lei Jun pointed out that, Xiaomi is titled Chinese Apple all the time, but different from a hardware company - Apple, Xiaomi is more an internet company. Furthermore Its logo reads like MI which is short for mobile internet. In addtion and most important, the revenue of Xiaomi mainly comes from the internet platform built by the ecosystem of Xiaomi smartphones.
Lei Jun also pointed out that nowadays Xiaomi has become the third biggest ecommerce company in China, and has built up a super big mobile internet platform. Xiaomi has many apps. Xiaomi built and keeps building an awesome MIUI system based on Google Android Operating System. People just do not make clear that smartphone is just a media only. Just like Microsoft ever sold CD Windows in a package box, but Microsoft is not a company that makes package box. The package box and CD are also media only. If people cannot make clear with this, they would have no idea what kind of companyXiaomi belongs to.
Lei Jun further said, " if people really want to make an analogy for Xiaomi using a company outside China, you may think Apple is the one. But I personally think Xiaomi is more like an Amazon company with Google elements (culture or whatever). If you put these 3 companies together, you will easily see what kind Xiaomi belongs to. Xiaomi sells smartphones, just like Amazon sells Kindle devices. Therefore, it is not difficult to understand whyXiaomi smartphons sells for so low prices".

Lenovo K910 with Snapdragon 800 is exposed
You may have heard of that Lenovo is going to roll out a brand new smartphone which was exposed online recently. But there is no news about the model number of this brand new smartphone. Now, the truth seems to float out of water while the performance score by Antutu was exposed for a brand new smartphone with Snapdragon 800 codenamed Lenovo K910.
And we knew that Antutu V3.3.2 shows the model number of this smartphone is K6 according to the past reports. The so-called spokeman sited this is an internal code name, therefore there will be an official name for it in future when it is announced.
However, Lenovo K910 appears to be the official name of this brand new smartphone considering the performance score by Antutu. The leaked-out information also shows it runs Android 4.2.2, and is clocked at 2.2 GHz, its performance score even targets 30059 which is quite unbelievable.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU
The GSM Insider sited that Lenovo K910 powers Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU, which can be asserted by the frequency of CPU. More inside news further sited the internal name includes "910", which most probably will follow "K" according to the naming convention of Lenovo . In other words, theLenovo K910 is most probably the Lenovo K6 which was exposed before.
Not even so, the past information also shows it powers Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) Quad Core CPU and Adreno 330 GPU, features FHD 1920x1080 pixel resolution display. The downside is the information shows it has only 4GB rom, though it supports storage espansion by Micro-SD. Considering it is a high end device, it is estimated it would has at least 16GB rom.
5 inch touch panel
The Lenovo K910 looks a little bit like Sony smartphone. The rear facing camera looks that of Lenovo K860. It features metal chassis, the back cover is detachable. It has 5 inch display and supports dual sim. And the Lenovo is sited to features Micro-SIM.
The worst thing is we have no idea when this smartphone will be rolled out.

HTC One Max is Exposed with Touch Pen
Half a month ago, many rumors about HTC one Max was flying around. Today, a set of photos of HTC One Max is exposed again. In this set of photos, we see a 4 inch Motorola XT 882 lying above the big HTC One Max. This seems proveHTC One Max features a big display, and it is quite ultra-thin in thickness.
What's interesting is, we see a small button on the right edge of HTC One Max, however we have no idea how it functions. Some one else guessed it is to lock the battery cover. According to the past rumors, One Max, as HTC's first hybrid device, will inherit the styles of HTC One series. HTC One Max powers Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.3 GHz, has 2GB Ram and 16GB Rom, supports storage expansion by TF card. Meanwhile, it will inherit many special features from HTC One, such as its camera features UltraPixel and anti-vibration. iT is also said HTC One Max runs the latest Android 4.3 Operating System. To target longer battery life, it features 3300 mAh battery.
HTC One Max is designed as the killer of Samsung Galaxy Note 3, for whichHTC One Max will equip touch pen as well. The media in Taiwan even reported that HTC worked very hard for this, so we have reason to see a big leap in user experience by using touch pen.
At present, HTC has already started moving fast for the next flagship, and thus signed contract worth 12 million dollars with Robert Tony in Hollywood for 2 years.

MediaTek announce Octa Core MT6592 with 8 cores working at the same time
The MediaTek MT6592 is annouced officialy, and now become the real Octa Core Mobile Chipset. Samsung Exynos 5140 Octa Core CPU can only have 4 cores work at the same time. Different from that, MediaTek MT6592 can have 8 cores work at the same time.
MT6592 powers 8 processors based on ARM Cortex A7 clocked at 2.0 GHz, furthermore ARM and MediaTek made special optimizations on it and made it work at low power consumption. Samsung Exynos 5140 Octa Core CPU adopts big.LITTLE architecture - Cortex A7 x 4 and Cortex A15 x 4, MT6592 adopts all Cortex A7 architecture which makes it more perfect in power consumption.
MT6592 is very efficient asyncronous multi-cores processor, it can assign tasks for the cores smartly. MT6592 is also good at 3D image rendering and multi-threads, it supports assigning browser labels in different cores.
It's said MT6592 will enter mass production from November and get on sale in winter of 2013. Some news further sited MT6592 will power some low-end and mid-end devices, by which it is estimated this Octa Core Chipset is priced not high.
And we have reason to look forward to the great near future that there will be many more real powerful smartphones and tablets at low prices emerging out in the market.

HTC Desire 500 is announced and priced at $402
HITC announced the brand new HTC Desire 500 which powers Quad Core CPU and gets on sale from August 1. HTC Desire 500 is priced at U.S. $402.
4.3 Inch Display
The brand new HTC Desire 500 has a rounded body, the back cover adopts the same design as that of HTC One SV. It features 4.3 inch WVGA display, and provides touch mode just like that on HTC One. But it only has 'Back' and 'Homescreen' totally 2 buttons, no multi-tasks button as before.
HTC Desire 500 runs Android 4.1.2 operating system and HTC Sense 5, and adopts BlinkFeed features, builds in Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 Quad Core CPU clocked with 1.2GH, features 1GB Ram and 4GB Rom, supports expansion by TF card. In addition, it supports NFC features, has 1800 mAh battery.
8 mega camera
HTC Desire 500 features dual cameras - 1.6 mega pixel front facing camera and 8.0 mega pixel rear facing camera, integrates back-light sensor and 28mm/F2.0, has LED flash and HTC ImageChip, supports 720p video recording.
HTC features Desire 500 with Beats Audio as well, supports Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi and DLNA, so it can outupt media to those compatible TV or PC wirelessly. More than these, HTC Desire 500 is lightweight and ultra-thin, it size is 131.8 x 66.9 x 9.9 mm, weighs only 123 grams, has blue/red/black three colors for you to choose from.
Priced at $402
HTC Desire 500 will get on sale from August 1, and be priced at about $402.
For now, it is only available in Taiwan. But it will be available in Mainland China at a later time for the 3 carriers in China, just like HTC Desire 600. TheHTC Desire 500 for China Mobile is named HTC 5088, the one for China Unicom is named HTC 5060 which will be available in most countries around the world, the one for China Telecom is named HTC 509d.
We will presell HTC Desire 500 soon, pre-order one if interested and visit back time to time.
