“Wow. Sounds like it,” she said, slightly impressed. Leaning back against the counter and shrugging a bit as well. “New apartment here as well, obviously. Not sure what I’m going to do now that I’m back, but otherwise things are good.”

“Well, you just got back. You have a little time to think about what comes next.” he assured her with a grin. “If things are good, that’s nice. I’m glad.”

The refrigerator was basically empty, and she shut it with a sigh before turning back towards him. “So. Besides the new dog, how have things been with you?”

He gave a shrug, “Things have been good. Got a promotion, new apartment, cute dog. I don’t know, everything seems pretty stable. What about you?”

“I don’t blame her,” she replied, still teasing. “The dog is much cuter than you are.” She shot him a grin before opening the refrigerator, crossing her fingers that there would be something for them to drink.

Josh laughed, “Well, I can’t argue with that, he is pretty cute.” he agreed.

She took the phone from him, unable to keep the awww from escaping her lips. “He’s adorable,” she told him with a grin, handing the phone back. “And now I have an excuse to come over to your place,” she teased.

He chuckled as he pocketed his phone, “I get it. No need to see your friend Josh, just his dog. I understand.” he teased, still chuckling a bit. “No, Brooke likes the dog more than me, I think.” he joked.

Hearing this, Avery turned towards him with a slightly confused look on her face. “Who is Rosco?” she questioned.

“Oh!” he said, forgetting he hadn’t told her yet. “Rosco is my dog.” he said, fishing his phone out of his pocket to find a picture to show her. “He’s a husky. I got him from a shelter a couple of months ago.” Finally, he pulled up a picture and showed it to her.

“Very,” she agreed with a nod. “And here’s the bathroom. Which is important. And the bedroom, which is also very important.”

“All you need. It’s nice.” he said with a grin. “I was actually looking at a place similar to this when I moved, but with Rosco, I had to find a place that allowed pets.”

“Well, this is the living room, as you can see,” she explained, still grinning. “And as you can also see, the kitchen is right over here.”

He looks around, nodding slightly with a grin. “Convenient.”

It wasn’t the smoothest of conversation changes, but she ignored that and gave him a quick grin. “Sure, if you’ve got two minutes to spare,” she replied lightly.

“I’m in no rush.” he grinned, standing up.

She watched as he pulled off his coat, realizing she was being a pretty terrible hostess. Getting up, she gave him a smile, “Want me to take those?” she questioned. “I can also get you something to drink if you want.”

Josh looked up a bit surprised by the sudden change but nods, “Uh, yeah. I can come with, get a small tour of the new place?” he suggested.

A soft smile appeared on her own face, and she nodded in response to his question. She had more than enjoyed herself.

His smile softened, “I’m glad you got to go.” He pulled off his scarf and placed it in his lap with his coat. “Even if I did miss you a lot. We all did. I’m just glad you enjoyed yourself.”

She turned towards him, tucking her feet up underneath her, “That is very true. It was really cool to see all of them in person.”

He smiled, “So you enjoyed yourself?”

She flashed a smile his way. “Thank you,” she replied, taking a seat on the couch. “A lot of reasons, I think. It was beautiful, for starters. And there’s so much history there too.”

“Very true.” he admits, taking a seat on the other side of the couch. “Then again, I’m sure everywhere you turned there was a historical place.”

She watched him as he looked around, a part of her wondering what he thought. It was definitely smaller than her other one, but she liked it. “Probably Greece,” she replied after taking a second to think about it.

He began to shed his coat and scarf as he nodded, “Really? Why is that?” he asked. “Oh, and I like your place by the way.” he assured her.

Avery shut the door behind him and led him into the apartment. “How much time do you have?” she questioned with a grin in his direction.

“All the time in the world.” he said as he took a few steps into the apartment, looking around and taking it all in. “What was your favorite place to visit?”

It took a good amount of self control to keep from letting out a shriek of surprise when he pulled her into a hug, though it didn’t take too long for her to return the hug. A slight smile still on her face once he let her go. “Thanks,” she replied before taking a step back. “You want to come in?”

Josh’s smile faded to a casual one as he nodded, “Yeah. You can tell me all about your travels. I want to know everything.”

Although it had been easy enough to send off the postcards from each new city, this last one made Avery more nervous than the rest. She knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that it would bring Josh straight to her door as soon as he received it. Sure enough, two days after she had gotten home, there was a knock on her door. She went to open the door, a smile spreading across her face when she saw Josh. “Hey, stranger.”

He knew he missed her, of course he missed her. But he didn’t realize how much until that door opened and he could actually see her. With one swift action he pulled her into a hug nearly picking her up off the ground. “Welcome home!” he exclaimed, letting her go.

Receiving another postcard from Avery was not a surprise, but receiving a postcard from NYC certainly was. He barely had a chance to even form a plan when he was rushing back out of his apartment. It took him a bit to navigate to Avery’s new apartment but he managed. Before he even had a chance to think he was knocking on her door with a giant smile.
