ages ago, I posted an aro positivity post that got a lot of bad replies. “This isn’t aromanticism, this is mental illness”. People don’t realise you’re allowed to be mentally ill and aromantic. You can have a personality disorder and be aromantic. You can be depressed. You can be bipolar. You can be mentally ill and still not want to be in a romantic relationship. It might not be connected but it might be. If you are aro because of mental illness or trauma, then that’s still aromanticism. If you just happen to be aro and mentally ill, you’re still aro. Aromanticism is not mental illness itself but of course, there’s mental illness within the aspec community. There’s mental illness in all communities. It doesn’t deter from aromanticism. Mentally ill aros are valid!

also idk why people keep bringing up that people will mistakenly think they're ace like that's some sort of tragedy. i thought i was ace then figured out that i really wasn't and was just mistaking my personal trauma response with that. and guess what the ace community was very sweet and integral to helping me figure that out. people go through a journey of trial and error before they figure out who they are all the time. that's completely normal why are you making it weird

I think there's something to be said that saying the words "Deny, Defend, Depose, you're next" to an insurance sales rep can get you arrested for 'threats of mass homicide' or whatever with a threat of 15 years in prison

But when I was a manager in a fast food restaurant I've had customers throw food at me, demand for my personal phone number with an added threat of "Well I'll just have to FIND it", customers charging past the front counter to physically intimidate me and my coworkers, screaming and swearing, demands to know what time I get out of work, demands to know when my manager would be at work as a threat, people sitting in their car waiting for me to finish closing because they were angry at me, causing me to stay in the office watching the camera waiting for them to drive away...

But none of those incidents are arrest-able offenses, not one, any time I called the cops on any customer I would just hear excuses like " "there isn't anything illegal about calling a restaurant", that nothing physical happened and therefore there's nothing they could do, to call back and let them know if anything else happens

Cop in the news goes "words have consequences" as if people don't berate and threaten fast food and retail workers every day

People who think they're being progressive in advocating for total hijab bans in response to harsh and repressive forced veiling laws in countries like Iran and Afghanistan can't seem to understand that forcing hijab and banning hijab are two sides of the same oppressive coin - patriarchal systems infantilising women, deciding they know what's best for them and taking away their right to make their OWN CHOICES.
