people freaking out over celebrities cheating + demanding statements to “hold them responsible” when a celebrity’s main job is to have extramarital affairs for our entertainment…would you ask a butterfly not to leave its chrysalis…

I think any marriage needs its running jokes, ones that you can repeat with variations, or make callbacks too.

One of my favorite bits is describing the romcoms I watch to my wife as though I have never heard of a narrative in my life.

"She runs a small plane company, and he's from a major airline trying to shut her down, so it's really anyone's guess what's going to happen."

"Get this, he's a stuffy office dork and she's a free spirit, and they end up stuck in the same cabin on a cruise. Sounds like a disaster, right?"

"They've decided to pair up and be each other's plus one at a series of weddings to feel less pathetic, but it's not like they like each other or anything."

So I told my wife that I hoped she would still enjoy me doing this bit forty years from now, and she smiled and held my hand and said that she'd never liked it, not even the first time.

really the big problem with "bigots hate all of us equally" (aside from being demonstrably untrue) is that it posits that the majority of the problems faced by trans women (and trans people in general) come from a small-but-loud bigot class, rather than a widespread systemic failure to regard trans people (and women especially) as people.

This is obviously bad, because failing to understand how oppression works guarantees an inability to do something about it. I think the reason you end up seeing it so often anyways is because it allows one to excuse themself of engaging in this exact behavior, and convince themself that screaming at trans women on the internet is some kind of community-building action, rather than the exercise of power against a vulnerable class that it obviously is.

I fundamentally just don't think that there are any circumstances under which making a copy of digital data can be accurately described as "theft" (yeah not even the one you're thinking of) and this is linguistic ground that should have never been ceded and ceding it has only ever led to bad things 👍
