BDPA Enriches the Lives of Local Youth through Music and Performance
Director of Contracts and Procurement at General Dynamics Corporation, John Oppedisano is responsible for overseeing daily operations, and contributes to the company’s short- and long-term planning. In addition to his work at General Dynamics, John Oppedisano maintains an involvement in drum corps and serves on the board of directors at Blue Devils Performing Arts. Created in 1957, Blue Devils Performing Arts (BDPA) uses the universal language of performing arts and music to encourage youth to move past racial, generational, and social barriers in order to connect with others and with their own culture. With several different programs for men and women between the ages of 8 and 21, BDPA provides a way for local youth to enrich their lives by performing around the world and experiencing music. The BDPA offers several programs to young individuals, and provides all costumes, instruments, and instruction needed for those who support the organization through a small annual fee. The Blue Devils A Drum and Bugle Corps program is for individuals aged 17 to 21. As the most decorated corps in Drum Corps International’s history, A Corps competes worldwide every year. For younger members, the BDPA also offers the Blue Devils B Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Blue Devils C Drum and Bugle Corps, which are for ages 14 to 21 and 8 to 14, respectively. Members of the B and C Corps participate statewide across various counties. Furthermore, the BDPA has a Diablo Wind Symphony program and Winter Guard program that provide positive learning environments and expand youth experience outside of just music and into other performing arts areas.
