Hello my people, as usual I’ve kept you up to date with good vibes and happenings in the fashion and modeling industry, but today I choose to break that norm. My question of today is; “How much do you know about your music art celebrities?” Well I had the pleasure of interacting with our one and #only_bigBreak_female_KenyanArtist on #CokeStudio2019 and it was awesome as it lasted.

Has that brought any clue in your mind yet? I’m so certain yes it has. Nadia Mukami of course but, have you met her before, shared a cup of cappuccino over some development conversations? Relax let me bring it all to you in 3D. This lovely songbird is a music artist, song writer and poet. Other than, a very God fearing, lively and an ever laughing person. Nadia is an “all positive attribute” lady. Hardworking and very passionate about her deeds, like you out there she’s normal and human. Hehehehe! Slang has it that kama wewe “hucatch” then pia yeye “hucatch” at times it’s human nature.

Coming to her music career interest, this African sweetheart just amazes me. “I have been passionate about music since I was a little girl. I remember a gospel song way back in class 4,” she says. Like every other successful individual out there, Miss Nadia never knew that she’s gonna be a music icon as we all know it’s all about one step at a time in the school of life. This songstress brings fourth lots of surprises and I can’t stop imagining how much of a big talent she is. Hey you! Can you act, can you do poetry? Just some applause for our #kanadia_katambe sensational tag. Nadia isn’t just your typical kind of lady. This beauty can perfectly do it all. It’s through this that she’s always so confident and a captivating artist when on stage. I hope we can picture where that energy comes from, same to the energy you use to sing her sweet songs.

“Wimbo ni shairi na shairi ni limbo.” The SI RAHISI debut artist states as she adds on that it has been that way since she started as a poet. She loves writing and music to the extreme. The passion for her skills and capabilities has been a contributing factor to her rapid rise to her niche. Without forgetting, Nadia looks up to some good works from her role model as a reference point. “Watching my role models; Miriam Makeba #MAMA_AFRICA and Vanessa Mdee are great ladies and their work too is always a mirror that I look through to gauge my progress,” says #theKenyanSweetheart.

She’s an African Queen we all accept thus, she decided to rebrand to NADIA MUKAMI so as to feel home and comfortable in her own African skin as well as relating with her local audiences awesomely. This reminds us of “Nameless’ debut hit COMING HOME or Sauti Soul’s LIVE AND DIE IN AFRICA” No art work just falls into place without extensive research, planning and brainstorming. By the way, just a random question; Erick Omondi, do you kwon what ‘pop music’ is? Most of Nadia’s music is pop art of which her inspiration for this genre comes from the general day to day activities and real life situations.

We’ve seen artists go through thick and thin to remain relevant in the music industry both locally and internationally. It’s expensive we can all imagine this thermal and dynamic force. ‘ILLUMINATI’ We have come across this or heard it all over and on social media about how some prominent people in the lime light sacrifice blood offerings for riches and fame. Our own Nadia is one God fearing lady. She believes in smart work, her quality of work and brand have been the key to her remaining relevant in the music world. “My social media is always lit. Anyway Nadia Mukami was one amongst the Kenyan artists who graced this mega platform with the likes of Diamond ‘Platinumz’, Harmonize, Ray Vanny, Lavalava and your #HODARI hit maker MBOSSO. She’s so humbled to have had this opportunity to present her work to the audience.

I guess that’s the only methali I can make up from my Kiswahili during my 8-4-4. Nadia is working on something already with Tanzania, communications are underway. Do you wanna know with whom? Is it a she or a he? Relax, I got you covered. The collaboration between her and Tanzania is big. Nadia is as unique as fresh and new in her own style of creativity. That is, her writing and way of delivering her message. The good content and lyricism makes her a lover of many hearts. This beautiful voiced artist attests that for now music is her fulltime job but it hasn’t hindered her from pursuing other positive activities. Being a 360 brand, she is thinking plans #MoneyMoves. She wants to focus on investments. Through this she would like to mentor young girls. Societal needs are at heart in her life when it comes to empowering the youth both girls and boys. Away from music just know that a lady who is well enlightened thinks business. Having graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance (with) IT from Maseno University, she is well versed with business skills thus soon her business will kick off.

Most artists out there are helping promote the Kenyan music in different ways. We wonder why even our own entertainment social media keeps playing Tanzanian, Ghanan, South African and Nigerian music mostly than our own on our soil. It’s vivid that this countries’ music has dominated the African and international music market, so what’s left for Kenya? An advice from her to Kenyan artists is that, we should have a good plan, an awesome team that will really invest their time and energy in your brand to see you becoming a big artist locally, nationally then finally you go international. You need to also produce good music, just be real in your art. So take it positively since she cares and loves Kenyan music. Remember an advice is given to all but only the wise can incorporate it in their deeds.

_Modeling Portfolio_

A portfolio is an essential tool for a model to gain professional work. It is a collection of professionally shot images that is ultimately your visual modeling CV used to advertise your skills and abilities in front of the camera.

Although professional images are not needed to apply to agencies a portfolio is something that they will need to market you in the future and you can use to market yourself to freelance opportunities. It is almost impossible to be put forward for or apply to castings without one, as agents and casting directors will want to see that you have the confidence, experience and natural ability in front of the camera before offering you paid work.

_How to create a professional portfolio_

A model portfolio is a collection of professional images and your portfolio must say something about you, agencies don’t want to see pretty images, they want to see attitude, personality and ultimately how versatile you can be.

“Get a professional model portfolio tailored to your personal needs.”

_What is a digital portfolio?_

Your digital portfolio is a disk containing your chosen images from the shoot. When purchasing digital images, you are actually paying for the copyrights. Without these, you would not legally be able to use them.

If you are purchasing any portfolio with us whether it be digital, printed or an e-Folo, you will need to pay for the rights to use the images first. This means all of our packages come with digital images.

Having your images on disk also means that you don’t need to worry about them ever getting damaged or lost as you can download them straight to your computer.

They can also be used over and over again as you can email them to agencies or clients to promote yourself, unlike prints where you only receive one copy. They also allow additional retouching, resizing and cropping where you or your agency see fit.

_What is a printed portfolio?_

Your printed portfolio is a book of 10 – 20 A4 fully airbrushed images. This book is what you will take along to castings and to model agency interviews to show them your modeling experience and what you are capable of in front of the camera.

Just like your digital images your printed portfolio is a collection of professional images that need to say something about you, this is why on the day of the shoot one of our professional image consultants will work with you to select the strongest shots and make sure that you have a good selection of all looks for those that I’ve worked with and choreographed their photoshoots.

_The benefits of A Modeling Portfolio_

Having a printed portfolio allows a casting director or agent at your interview to flick through your book of images while you discuss the job or campaign they are looking for models for. It’s about modeling and shows that you have professional modeling experience thus you get a first priority over those without portfolios.

The Secrets To Winning Beauty Pageants are really not that hard to grasp. However, if you don’t do these secrets just right then you’ll be scored pretty low and more than likely won’t win. I like to break these Secrets down into 3 MINI CATEGORIES.

Which are Secret Personality, Eyes and Walking, also known as my unique acronym I like to call “PEW SECRETS”

Most people think or believe that you have to have a beautiful pageant gown or a pretty face to win a Beauty Pageant. However, after judging for 2 years now and being a contestant for 4 years myself and talking with other judges and directors, you’ll see that it’s way much more than that—you need inside secrets to winning beauty pageants!

Tip #1

Secret Personality Your personality is crucial in the Pageant world and in the Local Modeling world. Why, well if you are not warm, friendly and outgoing then no one will want to get to know you, book you for jobs or even pay you for that matter!

As soon as you arrive at the Beauty Pageant location you are being watched! I’m not trying to scare you, but at this point all eyes will be on you. From the check-in person at the desk, to the judges and even other contestants and their families. All eyes will be on you! This is your opportunity to shine! Even before you get on stage you want to wow anyone and everyone because you don’t know who’s a judge and who’s not.

Don’t get me wrong, you don’t want to be fake or phony, but you do want to spice up your smile and your attitude! Be very approachable. That means, make people want to talk to you. You do that by smiling and speaking to everyone you see. This helps you to loosen up even before you get on stage!

Beauty Pageants are similar to auditions, whoever presents themselves the best wins in many cases! Your bubbly and likable Secret personality will also help you to do well on your mini commercial, also known as your Introduction or your Bio about yourself.

Yes even at Local and Preliminary Beauty Pageants you’ll have to speak once you get on stage. The interview portion of the Pageant does not come until you attend a State or National Pageant in most pageants.

Tip #2

Secret eyes 👀 You’re probably wondering what in the world does my eyes have to do with a Beauty Pageant! Believe it or not, Everything!

You’ve worked on your secret personality and being friendly and approachable, now let’s work on your secret eye contact. Trust me, this is one of the TOP secrets to winning a beauty pageant.

Do you know that if you never look at the judges and are looking into outer space somewhere you can cost yourself the whole pageant?

Yes, you can! You should always want to make direct eye contact with the judges.

This shows them that you are confident and not afraid to look at them! Even if on the inside you are terrified, you don’t have to show it right? NO…the whole time you are on the stage you should be looking at the judges and smiling with your eyes.

Smiling ☺ with your eyes, doesn’t Tyra Banks talk about that a lot on America’s Next Top Model? Yup, she sure does! It’s not hard to do and Beauty Pageants will help you to become a Pro at this!

Let’s use an example, what if the Pageant Title crowning came down to you and one other contestant for the Large Crown, Scholarship Money, Diamond Necklace, etc. and the both of you were tied with the same score. The deal breaker will more than likely be the person who made the most eye 👁 contact and had the best personality which shined through your introduction/speech.

Tip #3

Secret Walk Remember when I said earlier that as soon as you arrive at the Beauty Pageant all eyes are on you? So when you walk in the doors it has to be a confident secret pageant walk as well! Another TOP secret to winning beauty pageants is the walk! The walk can tell everything about you!

You don’t have to do a Pageant walk orRunway walk until you get on the stage, but your posture and walk in general should be strong and straight. In other words, try not to walk in the doors like your tired or you’ve just rolled out of bed! ☺ (smile)

Even while you are walking around the Pageant location, whether it’s a mall or hotel, remember you are being watched.Walk with energy.

When you get on stage in front of the judges and/or an audience, this is your time to shine! Do your pageant walk. Many Local Preliminary Beauty Pageants give you a guide on the floor to show you where to walk and turn.

Their usually marked with X’s with tape. Many times there are 3 of them (sometimes just 1), one on the right side of the stage, one on the left side of the stage and one at the front or center of the stage closer to the judges.

My advice would be to follow the X’s on the stage and use them to do your turns. You should not get on the stage and makeup your walking routine as you go along. The X’s are their to guide you so please use them. You’ll walk confidently to each X while looking at the judges.

You’ll stop on each X and then turn around so they can see the back of your gown. Don’t forget you are smiling with your mouth and your eyes (the other secret to winning beauty pageants) which brings out your bubbly personality and you’re looking directly at them the whole time and walking as confidently as you can!

Yes obedience is better than sacrifice we all know. But without sacrifice there ain’t success, nothing comes on a silver plater. In the art of life I’ve come across many who start so determined but can’t steer themselves to the end thinking that God will do it for them without their own commitment involved forgetting He aids those who aid themselves. Glory and victory ain’t just a mentally weak man’s song, it requires much more than enough struggle catalysed with some lots of failure at some points without giving up. Philosophy at times contradicts itself I think since as much as it states that silence means defeat, it also says that silence is the best answer though we don’t know what for. From my experience I strongly attest that silence ain’t defeat since humility dictates that some times you have to play cool n silent so as to lay good calculative strategies to challenge your adversaries. So always be humbled and sit down to heed what is advised since in life if you need to reach furthest, u have and must tag yourself along the right people only though remember you need both the wrong and right people for you to build your right pack so be wise.

At the beginning of a race many are so energetic and enthusiastic ready to charge and cross the finish line to scoop the award but only a few have got that capability to win. Kisumu Fashion Friday is one in a million show, the organizers never back down on anything. Just like any other high fashion runway out there, KFF brings you the latest different fashion designs from well-established designers out there in Kisumu and beyond. More so, there you find to experience the ecstasy of your anticipated runway queens and kings from different regions in Kenya.

Started late last year, it’s still a toddler yes but the kind of audience it attracts during the runway showcasing, I bet it’s the new “BABA” on the block ever since Canaan became a myth to tell.
